Why do I get the feeling that bump drafting will become a thing now with some drivers so they can gain positions without having to battle for it. If it's the front car that gets the penalty, it's makes the pass easy at the next penalty zone.

Yep, and made worse if serving the penalty on a straight since you'll lose more time. Unless I'm missing something, isn't this change backwards?

The onus should be on the rear car to be given a penalty since it controls whether the lead car is bump drafted or not. I don't get it.

I wonder if they did a blanket penalty for all races, all tracks. Maybe got so many complaints about brake checks that they wrote in the code with only that in mind. That the system can't quickly get info from both cars to realize how it happened is beyond me.

Fit in 2 race C’s before work today, more Porsche driving! Like the control/hard braking in this car, but only 222mph in the straight.

1st race I was behind p1/p2 down the straight. They (or atleast one of em) smashed into each other the entire way down, prolly the silliest “racing” I’ve ever seen. So much one had a 10second penalty!
So despite my slow tip speed I came flying by them, and the guy with the 10second penalty smashed into me, surprise!
Not a great race for me after that. P7

2nd race was much better, fun clean driving. Held p1 for a lap until two solid racers both overtook me in a slow corner, impressive lol
Finish p3. Happy there

In races that have tire wear on YES. The tires are cold, and the car is heavier because of a full tank of fuel.
One more thing is if you are closely following a car in the slipstream you have to brake earlier also.
Combine all these at LeMans with fast cars and it’s a fun race!


Edit So PD strengthened slipstream?
And they added sr down to front car for the bump draft? So at LeMans you get speed, slipstream, pull out on the car in front, hit the wall of air, go side by side to braking where you then have high chance of trouble?
Maybe you can work together by kinda playing leapfrog?

The only stupid question is the one not asked. I asked pretty much the same earlier this week. Yes, cold tires. Also dirty air from the cars in front. I had a terrible first race till I realized the differences between practice alone, and racing in a crowd. And I have heard dirt on the tires will cause traction problems for a few turns, but I haven't noticed it to bad.

It is a fun track and car combo. I like it because of the separation between groups of cars which allow you to breath after the first lap or two.

So i can push all race long at maximum except lap 1 ? Tyres dont wear that much ? Or i must in last lap be more careful ?

They don't wear enough to worry about. You can go max. I'd say they're at their best after 1 1/2 lap. So the second time into Mulsanne corner, they're fine. But you still have to worry about the dirty air. RacingGrandpa gave me good advice. Pull out of the slipstream before the corner to get clean air on your car. That'll help your braking. Also, let up on the gas before the dogleg into Muslanne. Maybe start braking with a little pressure before the turn in, then what you need to make the turn while downshifting. Mashing the brakes will cause the anti-lock system to give the opposite affect, so try not to show to much red on your brake meter. Roughly the same in Indianapolis. Let up before the dogleg in and start braking and downshifting on the right dogleg curb. And avoid first gear. If you're going fast, it has the effect of locking your rear wheels and you could spin out.

What a weird complaint to focus on, I cannot recall ever getting brake checked outside of warmup when people are messing around.

It's something you have to watch out for in every race. It's odd that practice in Arcade mode doesn't have the same effect, but it doesn't. It's why I was thrown for a loop when I first raced on such a fast track with these cars. But even Race A has cold tires to start. Dirty air isn't that big a factor because they aren't usually fast enough. But the faster the car, the dirtier the air. And always the cold tires to start.
 
Has the rate you increase SR been lowered with the new update? After a shambolic race I was down at 70-something, I just had a clean race at Le Mans and I'm up to 80. I feel like it should be going up quicker than that.

I don't know, Just a random thought. Trying to rationalize it for them. Not knowing anything about computer code, I don't know how hard it would be to write it up to be more specific for various scenarios. I have to believe though that they have someone from FIA to explain things to them, as they are partnered up. It's FIA's reputation that's on a line too, I would think.
 
I had a fun time racing this in Race C!

My first 2 races were on my main account (jimihemmy17) and had @x5abotagex86 in them. While I was competitive, I didn’t win due to some unforced errors and faster racers.

My last 3 were on my alt (gtp_jimihemmy) and were very competitive! I started P4 in all of them and ended P3, P4, and P1. @RacingGrandpa was in my last one! The last race was the most interesting as I saw my first bump draft penalty. The car in front of me bump drafted the car in front of him. I didn’t feel bad since the racer who got the penalty caused me to run off the Corvette curves the race before because as he was unghosting from serving his penalty and he swerved into my lane which had me go off and pick up 2 seconds which led him to him gaining P3 because his new penalty was only 1 sec.....on the last lap!

It was nice to finally meet you at the track!
I ran mostly to try out the new slipstream so I picked the fastest in a straight line even though it's not my preferred car. And so I went beaching in lap 1.
But I managed to repair and return to two spots ahead of my starting position.
The slipstream is different for sure, a lot harder to stay in.

Regarding the penalty for bump drafting I think it's because bump drafting is not a part of Asian or European race culture, it comes from America. So they didn't think we would do it. Or it's just sloppy coding so penalty always goes to the one gaining speed from the collision.

Thank you. I was about to ask if bump drafting was a technique that road racers use. I don't watch much road racing as my satellite subscription doesn't carry much. I know in open wheel it's a no-no.

So I'm sitting here reading the great race comments, and chuckling to myself at having to go to another tab to review my Le Mans track map. Everyone's so familiar with the track the names of all the features just roll off their tongues (fingers?).

Me... I'm like, Porsche? (flip the tab). Oh, there you are. Arnage, Dunlop, Tertre Rouge? (flip the tab) Oh... OK.

Again, maybe by next week I'll be able to see the features in my head. But then... A new track to learn. It's a forever catch-up game.

For some of the tracks you like you will find yourself learning the corner names. Took me ages, but on a couple of tracks I am there. Ig helps better than trying to count them. Just wait till you try to describe where it happened on the nordschliefe. I think @Sven Jurgens has them memorized for sure. I know a couple and then it is back to checking a map.

I'm not even going to pretend I'll race nordschliefe. Leaving that to you crazy people, lol. The proof that I'll never know that track is that I had to copy/paste the name from your post. If I can't spell it, I can't race it.

Nordschleife is awful for racing imo, sorry but I hate it. Zero runoff area, almost no room to pass, you might as well hold a conga line around the track and pass via slipstream on the big back straight..

Yep, great to drive, awful to race. Exact opposite of the GP Circuit.

Love that track, yes it's very tight, don't know why but just love driving it.

I seem to be getting a lot of this when racing from the back this week. I'll be gaining on someone and they'll brake waaay early for the last 2 sets of chicanes, or brake way before the kink leading to the first chicane. I think they're trying to give me a penalty.
As to the talk of dirty air and braking. Think of it this way. The same effect that gives you a boost from the draft (car in front punching a hole in the air) also takes the air off of everything that gives you downforce, hence @RacingGrandpa saying to pull out into clean air. It's not really worse for faster cars, but for cars with more downforce since they loose braking traction AND the "airbrake" effect. BTW, many people think you're trying to go for the inside pass when you do that, and move back in front of you. That can create an accidental punt situation, so beware!
