...

I finally finished watching last years N24 last week. Bathurst 12h at night is nutz, but N24 is insane! It's funny how many of the international competitors that come to the Bathurst 12h and 6h compare it to Nurburgring :sly:.
I actually get that. I'm not fast at either track, but I'm fast enough in parts to see the similarities. Maybe it's different for really fast guys, but on both tracks I feel like you really have to be on the edge to go fast. When your timing is right, though, it's like a complicated dance. All tracks have a rhythm that you need to find, but the rhythm at these two is faster and more complicated than most. Kind of hard to describe. All I know is that, the few times I have gone down the hill at Bathurst well, it's balancing on the edge of loosing control, but not really because it's tight....Okay, maybe I'm not making much sense, but when it's right, it's goood! That's one of the reasons I like racing online. I'm really too old to hit the track for real anymore, at least on my bike. Reflexes are degrading a bit, eyes aren't what they used to be, I won't mention the cost, but that feeling I used to get when you lay it into T1, both ends slide a bit, then hook up, and you nail the apex, back end creeping out of line a bit as you drive out... When you get it right, it's awsome. I get (almost!) that same feeling when I nail it online. The fact that the pool of players is so big, so you can see how you stack up, can be humbling, but also very cool.

I don't have a lot of time to race online usually, but I will get better at both of these tracks. I'm slow now, but once I get a handle on them, I think they may end up being 2 of my favorites. The bigger the challenge, the better the reward!

The radar also helps with awareness.

The radar is ESSENTIAL for awareness. Use it correctly and any claims that you don't get any feel for your surroundings seem quite poor, maybe it's just me but once you're used to it you can nearly eliminate rear-view twitching.

I've been around on Race A a few times this week and amongst others, sliding around the right-hander over the crest alongside another driver with no contact. It's such a sweet feeling when you get it right. Obviously it depends a hell of a lot on the technique of your opponents!

Nurgburgring is one of the hardest track to keep your SR up because it is so difficult to overtake and easy to make mistakes, pretty much a recipe for chaos. If you want to keep doing it then you could try dropping to the back at the start and then cruising around to get your SR up, or if you are fast enough the just put in a great quali time and blast away from the front.

Normally Race C is better for upping your SR, as longer races mean people are less impatient and longer races allow you to gain more SR, but Mount Panorama is a hard track to learn so it might not be the best.

Tough week this week for SR. Even the A race is bad because it is on a city circuit.

Looks like I chose the wrong week to start racing on-line! I love the Nurburgring, (I've driven there in real life having learned the circuit on GT2/3) which is why I jumped in this week. Maybe not the best idea!

Thanks for the advice. Patience appears to be the key.

3 @Voodoovaj was in that race, in a GT-R. Don't drive that car! I only saw him briefly in the distance in lap 5 after he already pitted.

LOL, What's wrong with the GT-R? I have mine set to +3 braking. it's a little tail wild, but it turns nice. The Huracan is nice there now. I have mine set to -5, but you have to keep a little throttle on when you head down the hill so the torque doesn't lock the rear too much.

I really like the F-type for this race too.

Aw, don't be so hard on yourself (or the game). Sport Hards are tough to wrap your head around. Some people have A LOT Of nurb experience.

I had over 30,000km of Nurb experience in GT6.

Next Week's races are up:
A: N300 (car provided) - Willow Springs Big Willow - 5 laps - Sports Hard tyres (last had Willow Springs in August, July was the last time we had N300 here)

B: Gr.3 - Nurburgring GP - 4 laps - Racing Hard tyres (last had this in November, will be interesting with the new BoP)

C: N200 (one make) - Suzuka - 7 laps - Comfort Soft Tyres - x2 fuel, x10 tyre wear (new car/track combo I believe but we have had a decent amount of Suzuka these past months)

Gained back a little over 1000 dr in race A this morning. Still can't seem to hit that perfect lap to break under 1.30 I have an optimal of 1.29.6 but just can't put it all together still. Going to run some laps around the ring before i go and try to clean up my driveway. RaceB when i come back in.... i hope i can at least not embarrass myself there today

Edit: just did a 7.57.9 on my first lap.... I'm gonna just take that and go ouside. Hope i can do even better after a little break.

I rarely if ever saw the GTR Group 3 until this Race C at bathurst, suddenly they are everywhere.

What gives?

A & C 👍👍:):)

One of my problems at Mount Panorama is that I just don't have the guts to go through the section in the red box at full throttle. Even when I get the turn-in right and I have a good line, I always lift, at least a little. I get cautious, and tell myself the risk is not worth the reward. Oh sure, I'd probably full-throttle that section in a Sambabus or a Gr.4 WRX, but don't feel comfortable doing it in any Gr.3 cars that I've tried. Anybody know a Gr.3 car that will comfortably do it, lap after lap?

Try the Mustang, I only lift slightly going over the hump where the 10 is circled on that map, same with the GTR but it’s a little more prone to slip than the Mustang. :)

Ha, was also about to suggest the Mustang. I often lift to get through 9 but that's because I'm a scaredy pants, but always lift to get through 10 to not end up in the gravel.
Not a Mount Panarama expert in any way though!

This would be so much better on Racing Mediums, Hards are just understeer and more understeer.

The Aston felt pretty solid through there, the Lexus is quick but catches a bump which lifts the fronts slightly. It's not a massive disaster but enough to put you over the curb on the exit if you're not expecting it.

I feel so guilty at times for not knowing all know the names of all the corners on all the tracks like you guys do, I basically know nothing about racing other than how to drive a car lol. I think I’ve watched one real race in my life and that was some nascar 500 in December/November, Daytona maybe? I really need to up my racing knowledge base big time. Any good videos on YouTube I could watch?

This one is pretty good. It's the final lap at Watkins Glen. The guy who won it, Marcos Ambrose is an expert road course racer from Australia, that spent a couple of years messing around in the NASCAR series. All the maneuvering in this last lap looks like the same stuff that goes down at the end of most GT Sport races. 👍

It's the Rolex 24hr at Daytona this weekend, look it up on YT or IMSA.tv.

Deleted. Wrong race.

I am pretty much the same lol i dont have the mind to remember the names of the sections or specific corners. I have always enjoyed watching racing but never had access to the good stuff growing up, a few nascar races a year on the tv but that was it. I also never have had an opportunity to explore my love of cars and racing in the real world wich i think is a big part of it. I always say i am a driver not a racer because of this....

I'm not sure you can go full throttle in GR.3 through that section, or if you can it's not that important. I watched Didico15's replay earlier this week and even he lifted off T9 and T10 and managed a 1:58.8.

T6 is easy enough if you gear up to 4th before it but I'm not sure you can safely and consistently make T9 and T10 without lifting a little.

What's the prediction for the car on Race C next week so I can have a suitable livery ready for it?

I like the AMG GT3 for this track, it feels very stable and easy to catch if you slide.

it's the most stable GT3 car IMHo but i find the TC is too intrusive on 3 and allows a touch too much slip on 2 compared to the Aston so I lose time on exits. This is pre-update.
