How long does it take before they increase? I've always just gotten into the habit of serving them right away

As Ash said, it is above 10 seconds. The SLOW DOWN message will start to blink before the time then increases.

For a 3 second penalty, it will cost you at least 6/7 seconds to serve once you have taken into account the loss of speed and momentum. I wouldn't bother for anything under the necessary now...
 
The only track were you can scrubb off big penalties without loosing any times is Suzuka East
 
just got a pole position on Alsace and the game froze on the starting grid screen - I wonder how long will it take for them fix those stupid bugs because the game is more than half an year old and it still has this bugs that ruin the experience ....................

and one more thing - the TT seems to be the Megane - I "love" FF cars
 
And @ThePhantomAli it takes at least 5 or 6 seconds before it actually goes up. You get the initial part where the penalty is given and SLOW DOWN flashes red, then after a few seconds of it being red text on white background it then starts to rapidly blink, then the time starts to go up very quickly, like 1 second every 2 seconds

Yet you say not to serve it right away? You're mainly referring to the 3 second pen that I served on the outside of the turn, normally I would never do that but I was frustrated after T1 then frustrated again as I never hit the guy, but obviously with lag etc I must have... so thats why I served it where I did. My biggest issue was the 10 second one at the end
 
Never ever serve any penalty that's below 10 seconds as you'll loose a lot more time in 9 of 10 cases when serving it in the race :dunce:

Yeah, obviously the early one that was sub 10 - you put yourself in last and were then playing catch up the rest of the race... if you had taken the 3 seconds with you, all could have turned out differently :)
 
Well I improved to a 1'59.263 and it's still not enough to regain a top ten place, no doubt you'll have to be in the 1'58's to stay there most of the day, that's too quick for me even though I think I'm nearer than I used to be. :)

Can anyone help me been trying race A but can't get a decent time, my best is still a 1.09.841 which only gets me half way up the grid. What settings are people using am on DS4, been using counter steer only [on weak] and brake balance 2 forward. Need to find a second or 2 somehow?

What's up bro!
I can't offer much DS4 advice, but the key to getting the most out of the E30 is understanding its weight transfer and being very smooth with it.

Here's my best lap atm - 1:07.289 - few tenths off top 10 but as you can see it's not the greatest lap so I'd say the corner to pay the most attention to is the final hairpin - so much lap time if you can get on the throttle early (but gradually) there.

Oh and I'm running 0 brake bias for Tsukuba (had 1 for Suzuka East and -2 for Maggiore yesterday)

Never. Only penalties which are 10 seconds or higher increase. That is the point we are making :). You could probably have lost 1 second in the race, if not you would have lost probably 1 position at the finish line. By pulling over and serving immediately, you dropped to last on the first lap.

Well, IRL we say if tires are silent you don't push hard enough. I believe even hardcore sportscars's tires do scream when being pushed to the limit.

That kinda makes me feel not so crap. I managed a 1:40.5xx qualifying last night, and I felt the potential to shave another sec off that with a bit more time.

I tried the NSX and I was able to get close to my times with the Viper, but it just didn't feel very comfortable. There's a reason why I'm still DR/D ;).

One funny thing that happened in my race... on the starting straight, I remembered I needed to change to radar (from the sector split times thing, which I use in qualifying) and then when focused again I realised I was approaching the 50m board as opposed to my usual braking point of the 100m board :dunce: swerved wide so as to avoid crashing but in doing so and then re-entering the track, put myself into last. Ah well...

Something similar happened to me, only aside from loosing many places trying to get back onto the track cleanly, I also got a 6 second penalty despite having practically stopped. I hardly gained an advantage from my misadventure! :crazy:

Are you sliding the car? Pretty much the tiniest slide on it costs you 1/10ths of a second

I made sure to basically turn round and drive back out into the middle of the chicane, as opposed to the short route to the bottom... didn't get a time penalty

Right, ok! Getting all kinds of confused there, I said how long before it increases and you said 10 seconds I thought you meant I had 10 seconds to Scrub it before it starts clocking up

:lol: sorry. No, it is ONLY penalties of 10 seconds or more that will increase - this will increase if you don't burn to 9.9 or lower within 5 or 6 seconds, after that it increases very quickly.

Any time penalty of less than 10 seconds will not increase, so no point burning it at all.

What else are you supposed to do when somebody decides to try and drive up the middle of the track over your exit line? Politely guiding them to the edge of the track is a favor.

The sad part is that I actually used to think like that. Don't worry I hate myself as well for that

I'm taking a short break. Starting at the lower midfield in Monza (it's a long story why I ended up there) took all of my motivation to play tonight. I'm still gathering the last scraps of my racing impulses to do Race A and C :)
