It's quite an interesting bag, actually :)
There's the standard pit halfway with enough fuel and a new set of tires, and then there's some who don't take tires at all. @Lion-Face took an interesting strategy and pitted at Lap 3 in his SLS AMG. The best one I saw however was a no-stop from a Ferrari

All are valid strategies and I saw people win with them

Well I think I’m going to get a lot of playing time in today so maybe I’ll just start with normal pit half way through and see where that gets me. Now just gotta decide which car.....

I’ll also be racing Alsace a bunch today, trying to avoid using the Megane Trophy but man it sure is an advantage when that thing can take so many corners on that track without even braking where other cars need to.

I hope to see some GTP members racing today :)

Being in the Top 30 worldwide for half a day is probably the biggest achievement I have now, so gimme just little bit of leeway to be proud of it :P

And plus, my newfound goal is to be within the same footing as the Nik that you revere so much. I won't just sit here idling around as someone my age is doing wonders in the same field that I specialize in now would I ;)

When the Asia/Oceania Live Event comes around, you might be ready then. Just practice, practice, practice. ;)

At an event like that, I think the Japanese crowd would love you two and plenty of the other Aussie drivers. They're always pretty keen on foreigners. :)
 
Strange that there is 3 (!) seconds difference between top 10 USA and EU ! Would not mind driving in Americas for a lot of DR A/B drivers here...

Time to pit and I made my first major blunder.. again! C'mon, it's only 4 laps for crying out loud, learn to count :dunce:! I thought I was pitting lap 3, so I only filled 1 lap. no tyres. but wait, there's more!!!!! Since I'm obviously retarded, I also completely missed my braking point for the second chicane. OK that's being polite. I didn't *use* a braking point!!!! yeh, what, 260ish kph, foot buried in the floor pan, strait into the barriers. What the frag??? What idiot put a chicane there??? :crazy:.

To be fair to them they are at least 5 hours behind so less people have been online to set the quick times. Even then the leaderboards there are traditionally slower, just isn't the same depth you find in Europe or Japan.

So finally I bought Gtsport and joined the Sport mode. But it is lovely. Races: 3 Polepositions: 3 Fastest laps: 3.

A no stopper is slower. The Ferrari beat me in that race as my wheel paused my game on the way into tetre rouge, cost me 2 seconds, which I had more than caught up by the end of the race, but couldn't get past him through the porsche curves. Not to take anything away from him, as he drove a great race and had great pace in the Ferrari on the no stop, and it definitely gave him a number of positions as he started 6th from memory.

Pitting on lap 3 has a couple of advantages, as you don't stop for tires, your tires are the same if you pit lap 2 or not. Therefore, going an extra lap means your tires are having to carry less fuel, you can run a bit faster than those that pit on lap 2. If you are pitting on lap 3, you will be using less fuel, so your pit stop is shorter also, it is worth between 4-6 seconds against drivers on the same pace as you not taking tires. If the other driver takes tires, that's another 4-5 second advantage.

But, you have to have a car that can run 3 laps on fuel. I haven't driven the mustang, but can only assume based on what I've seen that it can't do 3 laps on fuel without seriously compromising it's race pace.
 
I murdered my ratings today on Le Mans as my internet is still acting up. I had to quit a few races due to stuff going haywire and when I finally got a technician on the line mid race. So after a half an hour call 3 of the upload channels are not functioning properly from modem to server, they're sending someone out on Tuesday to test/fix/replace.

Meanwhile my upload connection is on/off resulting in sometimes 5 bars dropping down to 1 bar in the race, which I assume means bad lag spikes experienced by others from my car. From my end everything looks fine as downstream is still working perfectly. I can't resist racing LeMans, will keep starting last, only overtake on straights and keep my distance for corners. So far I haven't noticed my car punting anyone off yet. Just got to make sure it's not pointed at anyone in a braking zone.

I'm down to B/A currently, 23K DR lowest since 2 months ago when my DR got reset. Not a reset this time, just dealing with a crappy modem.
 
I finally did my first few races at Le Mans today. For whatever reason, I tried to win with the Aston Martin. First time, I had no chance against an alien and the Aston stepped out on me off one of the chicanes. The second race was good enough to upload since I haven't done that in a while.



I had all but broken the draft on the first lap but was far too conservative at the final chicanes. Burned a bit too much fuel and ran out of laps (why is ithe race so short)? Third time happened to be the charm.

Were you short shifting with the BMW? It's a bit of a trick car and because of that it used to be utterly dominant in GR.4 races where fuel consumption was enabled. Nowadays if you don't know the trick it's a complete dog on fuel economy.

I don't use manual gears; I'm on a controller.

So I decided to race my GT by Citroen Group 3 car yesterday on Le Mans, one which I won recently and had not driven at all. I did not get enough time to complete a proper qualifying lap in it, but it didn't matter because my time in the Corvette allowed me to start first. The car wasn't ridiculously stable but it felt more planted than other mid-engined cars. I didn't feel that confident on the straights because it was clearly slower than the Peugeot VGT. However I kept myself out of trouble to win the race; first time out in my new car. Weirdly, I did the same thing with the Group 4 variation of the GT by Citroen. Won it as a prize, won first race out.

I just can't see this being a viable strategy. Also, whatever car can actually go 3 laps on fuel map1 won't be competitive. Surely not the Viper, Mustang, or Peugot can do 3 laps even with shortshifting.

I used the NSX. First race, I did 3 laps(0.5laps left) with fuel 1, shifting at redline. I got a couple of 1.7 second penalties which held me up. Other than that, I was doing pretty good. The Mustangs and a Peugeot weren't leaving me in the dust on top speed. Just lost touch because of my penalties.
A Supra that ran with me wasn't that flash either. Took it a while to catch and pass

Second race, starting from 16th. I pitted with the field(had about 0.8laps left, maybe because I was at higher speed in the draft?). No penalties all race and finished P10.
Running with the pack and no penalties, make a difference. Also, I guess, slowing for penalties, conserves fuel as well.

The question is though did you close the gap at all by pitting on 3 instead of 2? I'd bet not.

Yup. I dug myself into a hole by using the meta Mustang :lol: I keep going in at 30% fuel on lap 2, and even then that's after careful fuel management that wouldn't hurt my pace so much. I thought that I would be able to catch you both times because you're in an SLS, but boy oh boy just how much have I underestimated you and the car :lol:
I learned that I shouldn't pick fights with aliens even if my quali time was faster :lol:

The SLS can apparently, and won against me with a considerable lead. Going into that race I never really thought that there's an alternative strategy just like you're thinking right now, but all you need to see to believe is someone else pull it off perfectly

I'd also love to meet some Japanese people- they're pretty dope in general. I remember one daily where I had a nice fight with this japanese guy, so he messaged me on the PS4 and sent me a real life photo of him beside an itasha-liveried Gallardo. I was ecstatic!
 
Had some great races at Le Mans last night. I missed the Gr3/Le Mans combo last time so was looking forward to it. Did 3 races, but unfortunately my qualifying lap had a mistake or three in it, so pretty much started last in every race. Wasn't too concerned as I wanted to try out some cars that I've not used. I thought the races would be a Mustang one-make race, but there was a good variety of cars in all the races. I settled on the VW GTI VGT car; didn't see anyone use it.

Shout out to Alpha Cipher, he was on pole in my 3rd race (good to see you, although I didn't really see you as you were way up the front!).

Just tried another Le Mans race about an hour ago with a new quali-time; managed to stay penalty-free (whilst the others bashed each other) and finished ahead of a few Mustangs in the process!
 
I'm hoping that I still have the pace at La Sarthe for Gr. 1 later today :(


Done for Gr. 3 La Sarthe :) had some great battles all day, but I can't win for the life of me :lol: even in races I consider perfect, someone always has abetter strategy or would overtake me least when I expect it; thrilling stuff! With all these silver medals I could sell them and buy a T-GT :lol: looking forward to Gr. 1

DTG has got to be my favorite GTS track. Just something about that Turn 1 and the mountains and sea as backdrops. Love the time of day for the Daily.
 
Just tried the Daily C Gr1 Le Mans race. Early days, but it looks like you need to in a 2016 spec LMP car to be competitive. I was the only non 2016 spec LMP in the top 10!

Tried the 2012 Toyota TS030 Hybrid, but couldn't compete with the acceleration of the 2016 Porsche or Toyota out of the corners. My race was red dot fever! I was the only driver not to get any penalties!

Judging by the lack of red SR letters, I'd say most of the penalties were for corner cutting.
