This past week has been rough for me in Sport Mode.
At first, things were going well, I had visited SR-A for the first time since making SR-S some time ago. It wasn't too bad and I was actually having cleaner races there then in the SR-S lobbies.
Built my DR back up to around 37k which is where I have been peaking, and my SR was back to 95-99. I was loving the Civic at Maggiore East. 9 races there, 9 top 5 finishes, 4 wins, 4 poles. 5 races at Le Sarthe, 4 top 5 finishes, 1 pole and 1 win. Ended that day feeling great, like I had accomplished something after having a couple bad days where I lost some significant DR/SR.
Signed on yesterday, decided to try the Daily B at NurbGP Gr.4. I've always enjoyed this track, but I'm not particularly fast there, I just usually do alright because I'm consistent and don't crash. Well, a few races and several Turn1 massacres later, I'm at SR-B and now starting in the top 3-5 because I'm racing with mostly B, C and D rated drivers. Lately, this is where I've been gaining my SR because I haven't been able to get many clean races in SR-S lobbies. Well, NurbGP is not the track for that, since I couldn't seem to make it out of the first few turns without the entire field landing on top of me at seemingly full speed. No matter how careful I tried to be, 4 out of 5 races I end up in the sand or stay on track with 10s or more of penalty time.
It didn't take me long to get a DR reset to DR.B because my SR got bumped down to C. At this point I'm pissed. I mean, I did make some mistakes myself and served those penalties accordingly, but most of the time I got a reduction in SR it was either me getting rear ended, me tapping somebody from behind who was losing control and wasn't properly ghosted at the right time, or other things I simply could not control.
Now I'm fed up with NurbGP and low SR drivers, so I head over to Suzuka for the Honda Civic Race. I'm pretty good with this car, so I was put on pole or top 3 every race. First race there, I get completely dive bombed in T1 but it doesn't push me off track because I saw it coming. Rammed about 20 times through the esses on lap 1 by the guy behind me whose qualy was slower...he was using me for brakes. I let him and the guy behind him go ahead and watched them battle for 2 laps without passing even though I could have tried. Eventually the dirty driver wins the battle by being dirty and the other guy falls back....I catch up and overtake for P1 and maintain a 2-3s gap through the rest of the race up until the final chicane.....and guess what happens? He punts me straight into the wall right in front of the chicane. I get stuck in the sand, head towards the finish, the guy who was in 3rd takes 1st, the dirty driver brake checks me right before the finish to serve his penalties, I ram him and push him across the line, I take 2nd, he takes 3rd with +7s penalties. I raced a clean race myself except for that ram at the end, took another major SR hit and get demoted AGAIN to DR.C and my SR is basically non-existent at this point.
So now my DR is like 7000 and SR is garbage. I'm normally an A/S or A/A driver with around 35-38k DR. Yeah, I had some bad races and a bad week overall, despite gaining a bunch of wins and clean races, and I normally appreciate the penalty system and am glad it exists....but this has gotten ridiculous. PD needs to get better at assigning blame to collisions. And also the weighting seems off. It's weird that I can race 3 clean laps out of 4, have some people hit me on the last lap, and get an SR reduction.
Oh well, catch me in the lower level lobbies for the next few weeks trying to grind some DR/SR to get back to a level that is reasonable for good races. I see more easy wins and podiums in my near future. I'll be racing at DT Gardens and Maggiore tonight.
