Yeah man. You can switch between high and low. I imagine the dust is like fog irl, high beams make it much worse....

Slept in later than i wanted to this morning. Did one run of race B and it went ok. Started 7 finished 8 with a horrible run. Then just tried to get some km's down on thd track, managed to get my qulifying time down to 8.01 and can see a low 7.5something if i can keep my pace up for a whole lap. Then tried my hand at some laps for the C race. Another track that i love but am terrified of lol. Managed to get a 2.06.xxx with the older bmw m3. I am sure its not the strongest car but it's what i felt like running this morning. Didn't have time to touch the A race.

Finally!

Were you on softs to be okay after 5 laps? I've been driving the Lexus but destroying the right front over the mountain. Otherwise it's perfect, fast easy to drive and good looking.

I pit at the end of 5, yet it felt like I could easily do a 6th or even a 7th lap on softs. It's a first I'm not completely destroying my tires. However I have over 680 races over the mountain on my profile, I'm pretty smooth there :)

I'm a similar level to you, can I ask what lap time you've managed? I'm at 1:30.1 but that wasn't a perfect lap so I know faster is possible. And do you mean the right hander after the first tunnel? If so I agree that maintaining a high speed through there is key as it's followed by a fairly long straight. A high exit speed is important but getting the turn in bang on is really difficult the way the car likes to slide around!

I haven't done any races yet but enjoy just hot lapping at the moment. I will give racing a go but am guessing you have to be really careful to not pick up penalties.

My time currently is 1:29.495 which is 82nd in the region right now. Sorry I just realized there is three tunnels lol. I'm speaking of the middle tunnel, right after the tunnel there is a right, left, right turn. I want to keep it in 4th gear all the way through that but having a tough time keeping the revs up. I know I can get a better time.

I too was nervous about the race, but I got 2nd and 1st in two races (TCS enabled on standing start then disabled right away) I haven't got a penalty hitting a wall yet. The car is super fun to drive.

It doesn't have to be.

Go medium-medium with the tyre, this allows the most consistency lap to lap, well Hard-Hard would but it's slow. When qualifying find your brake markers and in race pull that back a touch every lap. Don't change the compound or it'll add to the variation.

Keep your nose clean, even cede places if you have to, and you'll go OK.

Bathurst is meant to be hard, it is what it is, it has bitten some very good drivers IRL over the years.

Sometimes I’m braking way earlier and still not making the turn. The big braking point before the run to the last corner, the guys ahead all go off the track, I brake earlier (150m, when I usually brake at 100m) and I still fly off like the track is made of ice. Next lap, 100m is fine.

For that series of corners, drop down to 3rd for the first right, then go back to 4th for the climb up the hill. Once you go full throttle in 4th, you should be able to stay flat through the series of lefts and rights that lead to the next tunnel.

Lower revs are actually ok in this car, if you look at the torque and power curves, the power is nice and flat at the top for a decent rev range, so you don’t always have to have the motor screaming at the red line.

Also have you tried doing the start with no TCS? I turn it off before the start, and even with wheelspin in 1st gear, I seem to get a better launch than most people around me.

Are you taking into account being in someone’s slipstream when you’re braking? It changes you’re braking distance because you have less downforce due to the slipstream, also being on the throttle even just a little provides better traction then coasting around corners. :)

nt for slipstream as Pigems said and B) at The Chase, you swing right quite hard and if the back end is not settled when you hit the brakes, you're gonna have a bad time. It's a notorious corner, it's designed to bite you.

And the battle begins, I did 8:10 last night, first lap tonight was 8:04.6 in Time trial mode, I don’t want to set an official lap until I can run a proper one. Tonight’s the night I learn the Nordy, only 35 more second to shave off lol, I think may need more coffee. :D

Edit: 8:00.2 now, only 20 or 30 more laps to go haha. :)

Edit 2: 7:56.0!

Edit 3: 7:53.2 and I went off track twice that time. I’m finally starting to figure this out. :)

Edit 4: 7:52.1 and I can get more but I’m getting frustrated now haha. I just had a second on that too before crashing at the second concrete corner before the big straight, grrrrrr.

For Race C I'm assuming?

Are most people pitting? I was doing some simulations in the lobby last night a found I could do it on softs without pitting. My times on a no-pit soft were a little messed because of traffic in the lobby though. But on hard front, soft rear with no traffic my time was consistently 2:07-2:08 except the last 2 laps I got 2:11 again. I had no rear right tyre left when it was all over but only on the last 2 laps had I lost a significant amount of time.

It's soo much slower with tyre wear on. After doing 30 or so laps in a lobby last night with tyre wear, where I bested 2:06.*** I should be able to jump into qualifying and get 2:03.*** I hope. I did a quick 2 laps on my lunch break and improved my original qualy of 2:05.8** to 2:04.291

I learned early on to always practice with tyre wear because I would practice so much without it and as soon as the race started I would go into the grass on T1 because the car handles sooo much differently.

EDIT: I Just re-read your post and noticed this:
"I could easily do a 6th or even a 7th lap on softs"

It's funny because the 8th and 9th laps were the only laps I lost anytime. So I lost 9 second let's say those 2 laps, I'm not sure a pit stop would be any better, wouldn't I lose like 20 seconds?

Hmm, I don't really know. Pit stop is pretty long on Mount Panorama but you skip 2 corners. Most people were pitting. I guess it depends how fast you are whether it's worth it. I managed to get down to 2:04.2 in the race, lap 8 after pitting in 5. That was not the fastest lap, in my first race a 2:02 was the fastest lap.

I'll try a no stop tonight if I can drag myself away from the Nord. Switching between the two is rather painful though. The Porsche is so slow and understeers like an oil tanker compared to GR.3!

So I did Race B yesterday and wasn't able to set a qualifying time; but only by the smallest margin. I was just about the round the last corner before the game put me into a session. Damn and blast.:grumpy: I started eighth without a time to my name but I managed to come third, even though I'd upset a few people and had a large penalty. In the second race I managed fourth, after losing third on the last few corners where I went right off. Still, could be worse.

Don't forget to drive the Mountain in reverse in VR, amazing views when you come down the other way.
Ah, now that I’ll check out this evening. Reverse on the mountain would be pretty crazy. No doubt I’ll hit the wall quite a few times. For me, VR is the absolute best way to memorize a track...plus it’s mind blowing test driving each car.

8 laps is all I had in me before getting fed up with Nordy haha, I’m down to 7:52.1 with an optimal of 7:48.0. Just gotta put it all together now somehow. Sub 7:30 is just insane!! Wow, those guys are effin good. :)

^ What is that screen, that's new to me

This afternoon there were quite a few 7:3x times at the top. I only managed to get 9th in that race. Good luck!

The one race I did in the Lexus last night the tires felt fine even after 5 laps. The front right was the most worn but it wasn't too much a factor. I think I was loosing 1s a lap at that point.

Definitely not a car problem then, it might be that I'm attacking too hard at the start and overheating that one tyre, the left and rears are okay. I just did a race stopping at the end of lap 4, the first hot lap was a 2:01.6 but after a few laps I'm pretty much in the 2:05s, I tried the Aston the race after and the times were pretty much the same. At least I know the problem is me and my yobbish driving now.

Thanks lol, I just went into Arcade mode time trial and turned BoP on and ran laps that way so I could get used to the track/car before entering a race without setting a time. I don’t think I’ll be qualifying for that race, I’ll just start at the back of I do race B.

Beware, you'll be starting in the middle :yuck:. It's the one track where my safety strategy does not work and 9 out of 10 times I get rear ended before crossing the start line. Plus you won't have much use of the gas pedal until after Flugplatz  It's fun though, chaotic but fun. Starting 11th of 15 in the race coming up. Unqualified Brazilian behind me, SR Down before the start pretty much guaranteed.

2:01.6, nothing yobbish about that

Did mount panorama twice tonight. Started as sr s. ended up sr b.

Bumber checked around 15 times, I loose sr every time. Slammed of the road three times.

It’s like gocart at the amusement park. Without the fun.

3 races on the Nordschleife, 3 times a red S. First race got bumped from behind so much, red without a penalty. Second race, bumped again, then a car in front of me rear ends the car in front of me, instantly slows due to pinball physics, can't avoid, 3 sec penalty. Third race, same driver, now behind me, bumping me again. I brake for the car ahead, he rear ends me and goes off, 3 sec penalty. Down to 85 SR. Does reporting someone multiple times help...

Just tried the no-stop on C. Can't say if it was worth it or not.

I started P10, dropped to 11th, got as high as 5th then fell back to 9th in the last three laps. Checking my rearview going up the mountain made me miss my braking point at Griffin's Bend, which probably cost me one spot. There was 10 seconds between me and 10th so I figured the no stop got me and extra place.

I fully intended on pitting to and abandoning my no-stop experiment, but I forgot to change my tires before the race so I was running front H rear S. I bet I pissed a few people off late in the race with my early braking and bogging up the top of the mountain hehe

I was able to beat my Race C time by 2 tenths, I love this track as a time trial but the thought of a race of it is scary lol. :)

I couldn’t beat my time for Race A though, but I did come within a tenth of it, I forgot to save my replays yesterday so today’s are all I got. Hopefully I can beat them again tomorrow. :)

Wow, PD, like to troll much. I just got put into a daily B room as the only B/S driver, rest all C/S and D/S, starting right in the middle. It was nothing like racing or driving even, just pinball all the way. Despite never getting a penalty or SR down, neutral rating at the end from all the received blows. I finally escaped the last ramming Brazilian at Pflanzgarten. I think he was missing his brake pedal. Next room 3 B/S, rest all D/S. WTF is going on. :banghead:

The mostly D/S room was better behaved, mainly due to ghosting kicking in much sooner in DR.D. Also props to the Brazilian following me, never hitting me, while having to brake hard a couple times for traffic messing up in front.

Next up, back to A+/S to B/S, my SR crawled up to 91, that's what the problem was.
