Sorry that I haven’t gotten out to race yet @sturk0167

I hooked up my shifter tonight since PD UnNerfed them last night in the update and got caught up in driving my old RX7 around the Nurb, it’s just so much fun and cockpit view finally has a purpose! I can’t say I’ll ever be faster with a shifter, but man is it ever fun to just cruise around with it, it finally feels like driving. :)

Also, did you guys know you can stall a car in GT Sport?

I’m taking the Smokey and the Bandit Trams Am our next. :D

You're quite a builder. That's such a cool rig. 👍

Hey, good news. The Masters is only a week away!

Is your controller sensitivity on 7? I got down to 1:36.8 with the DS4 (with boost). I'm sure it's harder to be consistent but the speed is there if you nail a good lap. I always lift at Degner, the risks are too high.

No it was on zero. I finally found where to change it! Advanced settings in driving options while qualifying. I could never find it in the game options and I never qualify and don't show up until after the warm up

Going from 0 to 7 will be interesting...

Waiting at the start still pays off. Last race half the field went off in the first few corners

Oh, I guess I should have done some warm-up at least :scared:

Instant success!

The higher sensitivity doesn't change how far you have to point the stick for the same turn rate, it just gets there a lot faster. Great for the esses and the final chicane. The steering lock is still there though, max 70% through the esses.

My fastest lap was only 1:39.6 however that was with minimal boosting while I couldn't get under 1:40 with an entire lap of boosting before. I like to spread out the boost to maximize the benefits, use it for acceleration out of the hairpin and spoon. That alone shaves almost 2 seconds off lap times.

So I ran a Suzuka Honda special. Good times. I managed a couple qual laps while waiting and knocked a tenth or two off this mornings time.
Enter up baby!
Started 7. T1 was nuts. I was in good shape to come through clean but quick but an overzealous South American decided he wanted me to help him mow the lawn.
Oh I kept goin...Problem was I kind forgot about grip trouble at rejoin.
I visited the PLAYA.
Whoa mama. Oh well I figure it’s nine laps probably five or six cars will be off track after a couple laps...
Yes! Crossed the line lap 1 at 59.89. No 2 minute lap for this driving prodigy!
I ended up no stopping it and getting fifth for some 300 or so dr and to 94.
I think I figured out that maybe to use boost you have to activate hazards? Lol I haven’t figured out how to ‘boost.’ Also it seems the race is not 9 but 12!
Lucky it was not an above 90 room, although s sr still very clean.
That race is a stunner. Great to gain sr Plus Those cars are so fun.

Here's my GT Sport experience: I've been doing race A for most of the day, and won about a dozen of them (Not trying to brag. Sorry), but I just finished 2nd by 0.2 in a really good battle, and it was was the most enjoyable race I've had all day. :)
If you win a dozen races in a day, you have the right to brag! Those hard fought battles, especially when you're on it, are always the best, no matter where you finish.
I raced 2 C races, finished 3rd in both, and in the second one I ran down 3rd after coming out of the pits, passed him, then we battled till lap 11, swapping positions at least a half dozen times. With worn tires I was faster and got a gap of about 1.5 seconds on lap 11. On lap 12 I saw him go wide in Degner 2 and he lost about 4 seconds. I finished 12 seconds behind the winner and 7 behind second. They qualified a tick above and below 37 flat, so I think that was my best finish so far, even though I have a few wins this week. I did turn on TCS for the starts. It helps. I manage to turn it off and get back to my radar before T1, so it works so far. I like this car. It's intense. I wish we were driving this at Catalunya next week.

Told myself I wasn't going race Maggiore until I broke 2:00 but just couldn't do it. Raced anyways.

My 1st Race B this week. QT 2:00.4. Started 7th. Grid was tight. Top 2 under 2:00 the rest separated by less than a second. Thought to myself, race clean, fall no lower than 10th, that'll be decent. Finished 3rd. +800 DR. Clean race bonus. Did not expect that.

Back to try to break 2:00 tomorrow.

You have to assign a button to boost, called overtake in the options at controller settings. You have to hold it down to boost and not forget to also hold the gas down as I found out today

I think the little red light at the bottom of the car glows red when you are boosting, at least that's what I see when the car in front of me uses the magic acceleration.

That first lap is always chaos. In one of my races I started at the back again and did my usual 2 second wait before starting after everyone else, and still managed to get punted off in the esses... Cars rejoining the track from every possible angle. It might actually be safer at the front, although usually one of the fast guys ends up behind the field after the penalty zone.

The boost / overtake button makes overtaking more dangerous actually. Some people will boost right up to after the braking point to deny you a pass and rather crash then give up a position even though you've been patiently behind them for 2 laps using their draft instead of boost :) It could also be called the block button. I've also had people that immediately want to overtake again, boost past then slam on the brakes right in front of you for T1, which doesn't require any braking...

It's much more efficient to follow and use their draft while they try to boost away from you, but at some point you want to overtake when they start slowing you down too much. However there's no way to see how much boost they have left. It's the 'make sure the other car stays behind' button. In the end they always run out first, drafting is the old reliable boost.

Finally a good result

I got bumped off sure, but didn't get penalized for it this time!

Unlike this start
SSakZuq.gif

Penalty system is fine....

I gave up on not braking for Degner 1. The steering delay, max 70% steering input at speed, it's just too much trouble on a controller. I tap the brakes now for consistency and as you can see above it pays off. I'm still slow through the esses. I can flick the left stick all I want, the steering dot only crawls over to the other side and maxes out at 70%. Can't get under 1:40, oh well. Get a wheel and all that.

Have you tried the motion control? Works like a charm on the esses.
For what it's worth I can only do Degner 1 flat out after pit stop.

Not sure what the changes were in the update last night but I’m 1 to 1.5 seconds slower per lap on every track I tried tonight. I use paddle shift, don’t wven have my shifter hooked up

HOW?! I've never been anywhere near the top times on road courses in this game. I'm consistently about 2-2.5 seconds off the pace when I'm driving cars and/or tracks I like, and that's the case here as well (1:38.9 currently). I'm always fighting understeer, especially at chicanes and esses (so Suzuka is one of my worst tracks as a result), and I always assumed it was down to the controller vs. wheel thing. That was definitely the case for me with GT5 and 6, and I was noticeably faster with my wheel. I haven't bought a PS4 compatible wheel yet, so I assumed I that it was also the case here.

Same for me, I use wheel thou. This understeer is just ruining the whole game for me in sport mode. I have watched the top replays, and I dont have the grip to keep same corner speeds. If I have same line, I must slow down to keep hitting the apex, the front grip is not good enough to keep same lines and speeds. My C qualy is 1:38.6, and no way in h*** there is almost 3 sec faster time possible with these physics.
I was able to get times 1-1.5 sec slower than top 10 before, but the understeer problem was getting worse last week for me.
Now I'm constantly 2-3sec slower.
When the SF19 cars came to GT, I was surprised how balanced the tune was, and hoped that the race tune would be as good.
No way Hose, why the tunes are so understeery????

I think the cars are set up on the safe side to help novices and casual players, after all they are the majority.
You have to make a compromise when tuning for everyone. If the base setups were Michael Schumacher loose, only a handful of players would enjoy it.

I think they went a bit too far on the safe side though. Especially when CSA is available.

At least it's better than the mandatory SRF we sometimes had in GT5 & GT6 :yuck:

Edit: In the race it's helpful to run a heavy rear brake bias on the SF19. It's a lot easier to find the flow and it makes a massive difference to the balance of the tyre wear. I run +5. Just be careful when braking for the hairpin and the Casio triangle.

Speaking of boring, I'm nearly bored of Race C. I want to use my Toyota!

Okay, well, this race was interesting. Went off 5 times fell to 15th and still finished 8th.

Everyone was fuel conserving. I splashed fuel from 5.5 to 6.2. Ended up with 6.5 laps left and floored it. Even going off in the last couple laps, I still made time on the hyper milers.

Can’t enough of race C!!

Finally broke into the 1:37s last night, and finally got my A/S rating back after about a month of low SR lol

Won a race from 7th on the grid yesterday, against an S/S driver too! Undercut was too op!! It’s all about short shifting imo... Sad thing is I then forgot to save the replay! :banghead:

Also, coming out of the pit lane I seem to be red lining 1st gear and struggle to shift to 2nd in time... I think the pit out might be a bit buggy.... anyone else?

I'm starting to miss racing. I haven't raced in Sport mode since I got my wheel. Mainly because I haven't felt confident enough to do so.

This looks like it's beginning to change. I'm down to 1:59.6xx on race B. Last time we had this combo I was using the DS4, and hit 59.7xx. The difference being, I thought my DS4 lap was as much as I could do. My wheel lap didn't feel great. Granted, I know that's not THAT quick. But it does put me roughly 2 seconds behind the top 100 in Europe.

Maybe I'll do a race or two on Sunday before they change . .

After a DC during matchmaking for race C I decided to take a trip well outside of my comfort zone.

I entered race B in the 458. I've barely driven the car before and I don't know the track very well but sometimes you just have to jump in the deep end. I started 14th out of 15 in an all B/S lobby.
As the race went on I gained positions through the misfortune of others.
The Ferrari almost managed to kill me when I put a rear tyre on the grass under braking for the first turn of the esses. Managed to gather it up without losing too much time and soldiered on. The car requires such a delicate touch and I was struggling to control it.
Somehow I managed to keep it together for a P8 finish despite not making a single proper overtake.

But the sense of accomplishment was greater than winning in higher split lobbies at N24 last week.

Starting at the back in an inferior/tricky car brought me back to the good old days of reverse grid shuffle lobbies in GT5.
It reminded me that Gran Turismo should be about having fun first and foremost.

The car does understeer a bit but it also rotates nicely on the throttle so it is one of the best handling cars on the game once you get used to it. I posted this lap a few days ago of a 1:37.0 which is nowhere near the quick players but that is with a few messy corners, I'm not sure if consistency is a me problem or something we all suck at but I can't put together all the good corners into one lap. The other problem is overworking the front tyres, I'm pretty sure that doesn't help with the understeer (even before they wear I bet they're hotter/less grippy than they would be on a wheel).

I'm even more convinced you can beat your qualifying time with a race lap in Daily C this week because of party mode, this is my best so far but its a bit scruffy in places:

I didn't get anywhere near the turn 2 apex, the first part of spoon was a mess and you can probably gain time from using more curb at the chicane.

Does anyone know if there's a way to reset or redo a qualifying time?

I only ask as I once managed a 2:01.01 while qualifying for race B on a lucky lap but my usual pace is in the 2:03's. I might start a race in 2nd or 3rd but get monstered through T1 (I hate T1 at Maggiore) and usually drop a few places over the first lap until I'm back racing with fellow 2:03'ers. I'd rather have a representative grid position rather than an inflated one.

it's not a biggie, though, I'm consistent and alert enough to drop through the grid without causing mayhem but it is a bit disheartening and yes, i know if I can nail a 2:01 once I should be able to do it again but that would require more time, and less wine.

The transition from a controller to a wheel can be jarring at first. I also decided to jump in before I was ready, and now I can't imagine playing any other way. From time to time, I will still enable/disable certain assists though, as I'm not the type of person to favour just one car, and instead I probably have to dedicate time to learning how to push all of them to their limits.

What is your DR/SR, if I may ask?

Anybody else having trouble loading the leaderboard on the companion app? This is all I'm getting when I swipe left from race info.

I was completely out of my depth to begin with. Maybe 10/15 seconds a lap slower. I've found I need to concentrate more, and as such, my consistency does have lapses. I'm only about 7 weeks into the switch, with maybe 35/40 hours of wheel time.

I'm happy that I'm starting to match my best DS4 times. But I'm under no illusion that I'm near the end of the learning curve. My optimal time for Race B is currently a 58.5. Must work on that consistency
