Another good race for me. @sturk0167 fell back and thought maybe there was contact on his end or something cuse we were close. Not sure what happend as he fell farther back, i tried to keep up with the two super fast guys who got 1 and 2. Maged to hold third.

Now over to hot laps as the wife will probably get home mid race and the dog will go bananas, i swear he loves her more lol. Hope i can get back on track tonight with whoever is still around.

No ****ing joke my very first lap after those races was a 52.433, my fastest yet by just over .1 :)

Pretty lonely race for me this time, no one I knew

The start at Suzuka is very similar to playing Russian roulette :banghead:

It's getting more and more aggressive, nothing but bumping all the way to the hairpin. And why not, the penalty system is so broken. One race I got bumped off twice by the same player. One a dive bomb at the chicane, bumped me into the green stuff and passed, no penalty. The other after the hairpin, rammed me off the road into the grass on the way to spoon. Again no penalty, blue S, keep doing what you're doing.

Meanwhile, when you get punted off at the start
8Zi1As8.gif

There's the reason people don't slow down for traffic. 3 sec penalty, back to 20th place at the penalty zone.

Only 1 race today. Race B. QT 2:00.1. Started 2nd. Bumped off at the hair pin into dirt. Finished 9th.

I have to work on ways to stop getting bumped. Simply working on my QT has just resulted in getting bump passed by faster drivers. Maybe anticipate and let the car through before I know it will happen is the key?

YAY! Finally got my lap time to sub-2 minutes for race A!!!! Nothing for most of you but a "goal achieved" for me!! 1:59.6xx :)

Guy on pole was 1:51.xxx !!! How on earth..... EDIT - Just watched Pigem's video which shows you exactly how!! Brilliant, I will have to study, thanks! I'll just get the hang of it and it will be gone.

Put me 6th in a race, which I eventually finished 10th (turned TC completely off and wobbled a couple of times plus punted off twice!!) which took my DR from 300+ to.... er.... 1. No worries, used to that score!

Some real dirty lunge driving at the weekend - punted off, by the looks of it on purpose, twice. At least I didn't get SR down on one of them but not happy to see the punters got no penalty either time. And this in an S/A SR room.

All good fun and getting into it slowly.

@sturk0167 It is a commitment at first for sure. But after 3 months i am faster for sure than i ever coulda been on a controller, and i know i can still get faster....

Are you a "driver" in real life?
I'm sorry about whatever happened in that last race. I was hammered, and just now woke up from a nap.

In real life, yes, actually I can drive a car better than anyone I know. However, I just don't get the correlation between that and GT Sport. I think too many folks want to put those two things in the same category. To me, it's a video game. To each, their own. I am slower with my wheel, than I am with my controller. I'm just not willing to commit to spending months to try to get as fast with the thing, as I already am without it. I really want to get the Playseat and wheel out of my damn living room, but just don't want to throw it away, because I'm sure someone would like to use it.

I really do appreciate guys like @Pigems and @Oshawa-Joe who went out of their way to help and encourage me with it, but it aint gonna happen for me.

When we had the Z8 race at BB Raceway, I switched from D pad to left stick, which has helped. If I ever go to R2/L2 for throttle and brake modulation, instead of the X and [ ] buttons, that would probably be my peak speed. I don't want to do it now, because those are my shifters.

I believe it's the pedals that make some people faster (and in some cases, the shifting). I'm certain it's not the steering.

Yeah I guess I should stop being a chicken and step on it at the start instead of waiting 5 seconds for the dust to clear  That strategy isn't working as all the track re-entries are bound to hit me sooner or later. Plus I suspect my accidental and crappy quali time isn't going to allow me to start last anymore in SR.A! I'm back, going to give the 5pm race a try. I can always do some real qualifying and see how it is in the front. It's the carnage I see at the start of every race that makes that the least appetizing option. I swear some people simply press the gas pedal down and close there eyes until the sounds of scraping metal are done with.

Yeah, Hopefully I will get time to run some more of this combo. Even if you get smashed at t1 plenty of time to make it up! Plus looking at f1 turn one ain’t no picnic irl!

It’s ok to qual once in a while and start in the middle.
@sturk0167
Re wheel, and shifter, I was in top 100 Americas at Tsukuba last time with no shifter. Diff strokes. I could definitely see a tough switch going from strong on controller to less strong on wheel. I’d say if you wanted to make a switch it would be 30 days minimum no controller.
I know my friend went from controller to wheel. I played him that night!
Gardens, he kept going off track. He’s like the cars drives so different!
So I get it. That having been said, since getting used to the wheel he is far more consistent and it’s way more fun to race him.
@Pigems are you still considering hosting some races?

Being an otherwise mediocre driver, having a 37.5 quali being DR B makes it so I always start ahead in Race C, 3rd at worst.
I found the perfect starting strat. I set TCS 2 to get the car moving, at around 50km/h I turn it off and the car just launches forward, it's been working so well for me. Unless I have a false start (which has happened once) there's a 99% chance I gain 1st if I started 2nd. 100% chance to keep first place if I get pole. If I don't screw up and go wide I'll win most races. Every once in a while some A+ S monster will show up, I've actually managed to put a fight and even win some of those races which is pretty cool.

But yeah, after reading some folk's experiences in the midfield I'd rather not deal with that.
I'll tryhard in quali if it means I get a shot at skipping all that midfield carnage :p

Gonna spend this weekend trying to lower my quali time. I know top 10 is out of the question by now. But it would be nice o get a 37.1 or something like that. Gonna miss this race, back to sucking at the game come monday lol.

Race C. Put in Q-laps for the free spin.
Q-time down to 1'39"5xx.
Started 3rd, dropped to P4 during the esses., punted on the hairpin to P11.
Got back up to P8 after pitting lap 7. Went wide trying to overtake P7 before the degners (bad use of overtake button...) dropped to P14.
Finished P12 with good use of overtake button.

Only my 3rd race c, and a fun, only got rage punted once at the hairpin (and he rage quitted after that)

But besides that it's very intense and fun to race those cars when you get a little bit of air.

No worries man. I was just concerned that i somehow messes you up.

I understand what you mean with the wheel. I only asked about real world driving cuse i know a couple people who don't or barely drive in real life and they hated using a wheel for gaming. Also i am a recently converted, i used a controller since the 80's and never would have spent the money on a wheel myself, but after getting it as a gift i wish i had done it years ago. As long as your having fun, thats what matters. Besides your hella fast with that ds4 so i can see why the switch would be harder than it was for me to commit to.

For ds4 i would say try to push to switch to the L2 R2 for throttle and right stick for shifting. I used like the slapy stick in my wagon. Up to down shift back to up shift. You will get much better throttle control with those buttons, which i am sure you know.

Those extensions made a huge difference in my steering smoothness.

@Pigems wow! I thought i was getting close and you go and do that, damn! Nice time my man.

Time for work, hope to do some races this afternoon, and maybe trim my time down a bit, although last night i never beat that first lap i did lol i did have a wife in my ear the whole night though....

Dang dude, fast as you are and you still use x []. It'll give you more speed l2 r2 for sure, just feathering throttle. I had the same 'those are my shifters' problem, just went AT for 4-5 days and now its 2nd nature.

I'm still down to be way behind you all in a lobby somewhere :)

The wheel is only faster if the person using it is more comfortable with it than the DS4, I’m glad you gave it a try, but in the end, just use whatever let’s you have the most fun man.

I definitely am, I’m hopeing to get it going’s in the next few of weeks, life’s just been really busy lately and it’s cut into my GT time. :)

TYVM Sir, I ended up getting on a bit of a roll last night, hopefully I can find a little more today. I’d really like to go Sub 51, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen, Optimal was only 51.1 at best last night. :)

Edit: I just found this video and figured you guys may enjoy it.

Another day same thing.

First race today, I start on the inside. I get repeatedly bumped and worked off the road on the inside. I hang on but am a bit slowed. Thus another car from behind pit manoevers me into the grass. I get 2 sec penalty and back to last. I was only 27 points from DR.A so shouldn't do well on this race anyway. I changed my race strategy to a 10 lap race, pitted in 5th, used my boost for the second set of 5 laps, got to 4th in lap 10 and set the rest out in the pit. Still -3 SR for the race. Hopefully that gives me enough buffer to complete the next race, although 6 quit and I still gained 3 positions finishing last. 650 points from DR.A.

Race 2. A chain reaction in front of me instantly slows me down before T1. Probably for the better. I make it to 9th in lap 1. Races on Suzuka are won or lost in T1! Great race otherwise. In the last lap I'm in 4th closing in on third. Third goes wide at Degner 1, second place goes wide at Degner 2. I miss them both and take second! 15 positions gained, SR restored. Too good, back in DR.A after all grr. Time for a pit race while I get the patio furniture out. Spring is finally here for real. No more racing until tonight, the sun is out, it's going to to be 15c which will feel like 25 after the freezing rain and cold wind of yesterday. Warm enough for some cycling, I'm going to be feeling it tonight.

I didn’t end up doing any racing tonight but I did manage to shave almost 4 tenths off of my Race A time in the Ferrari, down to 51.4 now. :)

Great job! I've managed a 52.2 but it's so obvious to see where you can gain time... doing it is another matter. I give myself a little fist pump when I get sub 33 secs on 1st sector... and then end up with a 1:54 or something and back to square 1 :banghead:

Same. I started on the inside and still got smashed off to the outside at T1. Dropped to 19/19. With some help from the Penalty Zone, made up 6 spots quickly.

Thanks man, same to you. If you can go sub 33 in the first sector you are definitely capable of going sub 52 for the rest of the lap, keep working at it and you’ll get it.

From the DR 1 end (easier to write than "other end of the spectrum....:dunce: ) - mixed bag today, wrote about shunts earlier, happened again in the evening, went flying into the wall, ricocheted off into the opposite wall (yes, it was that hard!) and got given a 5 second penalty!! Unbelievable.

But on the other hand, I tried race B again, placed 12 out of 15 (all had Q times) and it was great! Everyone sort of kept their place until the last lap, the car in front of me went off and I passed.

Coming up to the very last 2 corners (the sharp ones) he was right behind me and I thought "'Ere we go, I'm going to get punted".... and I didn't, he braked and let me finish ahead. Wow!

Seems every race is "the luck of the draw", some are great, some are really infuriating!

All good fun and glad I'm joining in a bit more.
