Sunfungus is a good bloke and racer just takes some time to get on his good side. He’s the eye for an eye type.
Thanks for that info. He wished me luck in a race a couple of weeks ago, after i had not raced for almost two months (I got annoyed at the lag for Australians/New Zealanders). But my hand controller wasn't on (for texting efficiently) so by the time I could reply, it was too late ... I felt bad indeed. I need to get a keyboard attached somehow ...

It's getting late/early in Europe. Might have to try another race at the cathedral of speed . . Maybe in the Porsche.

Still not managed to beat my 1:47.770 time. Got close in the Mustang, then had a massive slide coming out of Ascari. Lost 3 maybe 4 tenths, easily. That lap was 1:47.951

This is the only penalty I've had so far. P1 gets on the curb and loses traction, which makes him swerve over into me. No big deal. Then, approaching the next turn, we're both in a bad situation. I brake to give him room. He goes wide to make room for me. We both end up screwing ourselves, by trying to be nice. Next guy gets on my outside, where you should never be outside. I got a 2 second penalty and end up 5th. The original P1 quit the race.

Not sure what the lesson is, here. It's either keep being nice, and good things will happen, or be aggressive, and make the other guy back down.
... :mischievous:
A "Your's" button would be great eh ...

But of course other's would abuse it ... unless PD could recognise a fake "Your's" usage and award a hefty penalty for a misleading "Your's" call. But such niceties would not be possible for PD, as they are too busy working on cone spinning algorithms.

And then just like that the 9pm race is clean, I had a great battle with an Argentinian in the first half, then with an American in the second half. It took a few laps to pass them, fun race. Both were just as careful as me not to make contact. Side by side through T1 when we both happened to brake exactly at the same time, no problem! Conceding when it looks like there won't be enough overlap before the corner, testing each other out before going for the pass. Finally some actual tactical racing instead of dive in and see what happens.

I had these two earlier today. Much easier to get clean races at 2pm
rGwd.jpg

I did a no stop in the SLS, forgot to switch to mediums again before the race.

sGwd.jpg

Nice drive, pretty fast but uses a lot of fuel. 4% left at the pit.

Sticking with Germany for now, bmws next.

Oh well that 9pm race was a fluke, Monza is back.
zGwd.jpg

I already lost the clean race bonus in the first Lesmo 2. Dumb GT-R trying to squeeze through the inside of another car in front of me, pushes the other car out who spins. I slow down to avoid both the spin out and the next car trying to squeeze through my inside and get nailed by another car coming from behind. Game over, nowhere to go, spun into the wall, SR Down for me and back to last. What can you do here?
rNMnfCY.gif

I got dive bombed later, punted off in Parabolica and got a penalty from him spinning out in Lesmo 1. It's the one with the red A there for all the other incidents. GT-R drivers are always trouble.

Skipping the 10pm race. Not worth it.

I almost had it in the 10:30pm race. It was chaos but I got through somehow until the final turn. Mf behind me had to tap my rear bumper in the final corner, SR Down. Currenlty I'm sitting the rest of the 11pm race out in the pit. I already got rammed in lap 1 and got SR Down for it. The 2 cars in front of me were causing trouble again going into Parabolica, while recoveries from behind came diving in at full speed. Apparently when you get punted wide in Parabolica, yet manage to stay on the run off area outside the turn, it's deemed your fault. Driving in SR.S in the evening, not worth the time. Netflix it is.

Good evening. I decided to go in country tonight on the Gardens track. It’s not one of my favorites, and I’m not very quick there, but I figured prime time would be a good time to restore the sr I need to get back to 99.
All was well, until I messed up the turn 1 entry slightly and got stuck under steering.
The Lancer behind me didn’t even try to avoid, and although he didn’t punt me, he gave me the bump from behind sr down. Just floored it right into me like I wasn’t there.
He then pressured a bit, but that things so slow it can’t pass anything on a straight, and even though I moved left into the hairpin he went kamikaze and took out someone ahead after ricocheting off me trying to bomb it up inside.
I really didn’t give a crap in fact taking out a guy ahead was only limiting my inevitable dr plunge since I’m running on this track...
Meh. Had a Huracan pull the same move, probably out of frustration of not being able to come close to a pass on the start finish straight. Kept flooring it trying to punt me...
Sr down to me...
No trip back to happy 99 for me. I must say, I much prefer Brands, Lagos, Suzuka, Catalunya, Panorama to Gardens Seaside Tokyo and Croix.

@Invisigoth

These were not the sr I was looking for...

Early hours racing is fun. Started 5th both times.

First race in the GTR, I completely stuffed T1. Missed my braking point. Managed to avoid causing absolute chaos, but ended up in 18th. Not a bad result, considering . .

This one went better. No doubt whatsoever that this would have been 4th, or 5th if the Porsche was better at fuel saving. Used quite a bit more fuel than I thought it would. Out braking myself into the second chicane (twice) probably didn't help, either.

An absolute beauty of a first lap.

DR is up another couple of hundred points. SR is back to 99.

... In lap 4 the Brazilian was coming up from behind, yet still 0.7 sec behind at the 150 marker. I brake thinking that's way too far to hit me. Wrong! I can't steer back left in time, he clips me and slides over the far kerb. I get SR Down.

I switched from no stop to seek and destroy mode. I had 33% fuel left in the pit so had to take on a bit extra not to get too far ahead of him. Then blocked him on the way to the second chicane. He messed up and got stuck in the blocks. No penalty for me, he finished last with red A. I got a best lap of 1:49.4 during that race., but finished with still 14% fuel left. Dive bombs, sigh.

Attempt 4 in the AMG. It's starting to feel pointless to race between 6pm and 11pm.

I bet he logged out immediately ... shame he should have been notified by PD that the guy he smashed up was the fastest guy in the race.

Then again, he would probably then think, that what he did was cool ...

Decided to give the WRX a shot.

Edit: 2nd race not so lucky. Started 6th, got punted around a couple times, other people's penalties vaulted me to 4th and was able to get on the podium on the 4th lap. Not terrible.

3rd race didn't go so well. Started 4th, was good for more than half, good racing. Then someone tried to pass me into the 4 apex turns on the outside (why?) and when I slowed to give him room I hit a kerb on the inside which threw me into him. Of course I got a 2 second penalty for it and he isn't happy. Think that's enough for me tonight.

Today's update: Monza time down to 1:46.853 in the GT-R.

Hoping that yuyuko-san still races in the early mornings alongside @05XR8...
Doing DTG in the RC F. Starting 2nd behind Huracan.

I'll be doing Race C after.

Edit: Hard work. I don;t usually have TCS Off with the RC F. Lost 3rd on the last lap. Lancer got the punch out of corners but can't match the top speed. Was being raced fair so no need to block into the Beach Hairpin.

Might be a rough one

Edit:
Excellent pace with the Atenza. Latched onto a Mustang(finished 7th) that was signaling for me to pass as I was quicker in braking and the turns. No, Sir! Stayed behind, Fuel 2 and let him do all the hard work. Was enough to leapfrog 2 spots at pit exit.

Got 3 seconds for this mess. I get hit on my right rear by the GT-R.

MR cars and me just don't jell. Although, I did do well with the 12C Gr.4 at Autopolis. NSX was fast enough, but that slidey back out stuff. I hate it. I went off on the INSIDE of the parabolica. Gifted myself a 1 second penalty. Like, c'mon. Finished where I started.

Jumped in the GT-baRge this morning to see what all the fuss is about.

It is quicker in a straight line than my beloved Vantage. but it feels so uuuirrggghhh through the chicanes. Even with rear brake balance it just feels cumbersome whereas the Aston will just slide and happily point where I want it to.

But speed = times. I dropped my time by 4 tenths straight away. If only I could get round the 2nd chicane quickly. Had to go to work. Said this is last lap.

Dropped a whole second. Now have a 1.49.4xx

Feels good. Still hate that car though. Won't be racing in it.

Went to try the GTR last night only to learn ..... I don't have the GTR! Surprising when I have 344 cars in my garage. I may buy one just to see if I can improve my lap time, but if it handles like you say I'll just stick to racing in the Mustang which I find handles really predictably and soaks up curbs like they're not there.

I decided to try online racing for the first time since GT5 days and thought the daily races in GTS would be a good reintroduction so plumped for daily race A at Tsukuba, the first race got a bit bargy and my SR dropped to a C but after a few more good clean races I was up to a C S rating, got into a race with all S safety rating and was surprised that it was the dirtiest race I'd had all evening, after being barged off track a couple of times I finished the session with a C A rating, bit of a pity as I was quite proud that I'd quickly jumped to a S safety . Hopefully I can find some clean racers when I go back on to get my rating back up.

Don't get your hopes too high. SRs are by no means a representative of who you are racing against. It a lot of cases Race C (this week at Monza excluded!) is an SR mine. It's relatively easy to look like a good racer on paper. I wouldn't set your stock in it.

I learnt the hard way. Take pride in your own race craft, but don't expect a reward from the game for it. That's what community is for.

Yeah, I kind of figured that out last night, I normally spend my seat time doing longish custom races against the AI in PC2 with damage on full so have learned to try to avoid contact at all costs, I quite surprised to find damage was set to off for the dailies. I did have fun though, I just don't want to get lured into the habit of barging or nudging opponents just for the sake of a position or two.

The problem in the daily races is in a tightly packed field it's not a position or two, the entire field will gladly take advantage and pass you if you're trying to avoid contact at all costs. Got a car 0.3 in front and another 0.3 behind when you start braking for a chicane? The only way to guarantee to avoid contact is to basically pull over and let the car behind pass before it gets to that stage, but there's another car not far behind them who you'll have to pull over and let past at the next chicane and so on.

Everyone knows by now to use the brakes at T1. Thing is, there is that one car staying on the brakes that bit longer, to allow room so they don't get hit. I've done it. However, I was on the gift giving end. T1, two cars behind me are neck and neck. It's not going to be pretty. I start braking. The car ahead of me is already braking. I'm way back, but the car in front is STILL on the brake pedal. I can't even do the Blues Brothers both feet on the brake trigger thing. I bump the car ahead. Not off the track, but enough. After me, about five cars barrel into T1. Ten pin bowling. I think last place picked up a spare.

To add, I dont know if it was a GTplanet member or what. I have to watch the replay. I get wacked from behind. pushing me out of control. I stand on the brakes to try and make the last chicane. just hit the curbs and wack into the car that hit me. No penalty for me.

I wish 1:49.4 was fast  He was definitely much slower than that, but matchmaking puts people that can run 1:47 laps together with those that do 1:56 laps. I was doing 1:54 laps until then to make a no stop work while being able to speed up after everyone pits, which is why I could brake after the 150 with the AMG. Yet even braking late with still 0.7 sec gap, I guess he saw the time decreasing on the run up and figured to make a deep dive. If I had somehow managed to steer clear he would have gone off.

My bad, should only look at the rear view mirror while braking. The apex doesn't move, no need to look at where you are going, right...

A lot of drivers think they can only slow down by braking, but you could also slow down by going off throttle and coast before braking. It can have the same result or even better, because it's more controllable.
