Well that's a first. I had the clean race in the bag in the other BMW (Walkenhorst variant) but the damn thing got away from me in the final Ascari. Just a little bit outside the lines at corner exit was enough. The BMW is pretty much the worst at Monza, so slow through Ascari and Parabolica. I had to let some cars through again, parking at the start of Ascari as I was sure they would run into me at corner exit.

One of the drivers I let through had a red B at the end, avoided that one. Yet what's wrong with this car, top heavy or something? That weight shift in Ascari is deadly. First time for everything. With a bit of drafting my best lap in it was 1:50.2, not bad, but that's after driving a lot of laps in the various BMWs and knowing the brake points to the cm. It just does not corner well on this track.

Next attempt spoiled by a GT-R draft bump after getting blocked by a Lexus. The problem with going for clean race is that a bully only needs to stick one inch of a nose on your inside and you have to concede the corner. Yet if you defend the inside you run the risk of them turning into you giving you SR Down as well. It's a lose lose situation.

Anyway draft bumps get rewarded with a brake check from now on. SR Down pops up, I get in front and slow them way down until I ghost. Stop bumping.

Game gave me a chance to start up front, but since yuyuko-san and @05XR8 are not sighted there, I decided to outbrake myself on L1 T1 and decided to play the recovery game. Pitted on Lap 5 for a splash and dash and ended up finishing in 3rd on real worn tyres.
I had dropped to A/A for a few races. So, you probably wouldn't have seen me. Back up to A/S. Should be on soon for a few Monza blasts.

3rd time is the charm

I lost 2 places to avoiding a Mustang dive bomb at the second chicane, then again when I got GT-R hit from behind there, luckily hard enough to go over the inside line at the second half. The car that punted me did not get a penalty, but at least I did not get SR Down either. However I had to stay on the side to let traffic pass safely. I'm putting myself at a severe disadvantage here as the only one trying to drive contact free and stay inside track limits. Fun challenge, but far from a winning strategy. No red dot for this driver.

Friday is disappointing so far for race craft. Hopefully it's just Sarthe and Monza cause it feels like standards keep slipping week after week. Brand's hatch next week might be better. A track with real consequences for pushing too hard.

One German car left, Beetle time.

My next adventure involved a no-stop in the 4C at Monza. I set my tyres to Hs and that, surprisingly, was overkill. After 9 laps, front tyres weren't even halfway worn. Pretty sure Ms would had been fine. :boggled:

Anyway, P20/20 on the grid with no QT (we don't qualify around these parts and I've enjoyed racing at the back more, feels like I'll end up being roadkill if I qualify.) The race surprisingly had very few incidents and if anything, I caused one of them. I hit someone off at Variante because I briefly had my eyes on the FM/radar screen and managed to brake at the 100 marker :banghead:. I wish the HUD had a way to display both FM and radar together. Weird thing was no penalty and only SR down for me which I assume is because I went off the track as well. I didn't see if the poor guy ahead had got one, hopefully he didn't.

I had to short-shift all the way with only changing FM on a few occasions to 2 when I was in close proximity to someone at Curva del Serragilo. I otherwise left it at FM1. Looking back now, I think you want to be in FM2 for at least 3/4 - 1 lap because during the last lap, I had 0.2 fuel remaining at Variante Ascari so desperate measures were taken by sticking her in FM6 the rest of the way. :scared: I still managed to run out of fuel right before the finish line but we crossed, so, that's all that matters. Finished P11.

Yep mediums are fine all the way. Best is to start with fm2, short shift very early and hang back in the first lap, coast into corners, save up fuel for when everyone pits. Depending on the car I run 1:54 or 1:55 laps until lap 6, then speed up to 1:52 laps to stave off the cars coming from behind. Having the radar next to FM would be very helpful as I constantly have to look at laps remaining to measure it out to the finish while changing strategy on the fly.

The worst spot form me on the track is the brake point for Ascari. It's right at the end of the sector where I check if I still have the clean race bonus (look for the green SR up arrow). It's at the worst time to look away from the track. I wish there was an indicator somewhere for clean race.

My first attempt in the Beetle was over at T1 lap 2. I got boxed in. The car in front struggled through the second part while the car behind me was closing in. Gaps to front and back rapidly shrinking, no way out, SR Down. The tiny bump didn't have any effect on anyone but such is the game. The 3 bar connections didn't help either.

However after losing the bonus, I go into race mode, not conceding anymore when a car gets too close. Still clean and penalty free of course, but not cowering at the outside edge when a nose gets too close. I got to 7th in the Beetle, it got some speed and goes nicely through corners. Then you get handed the bill at the pit, 4% fuel left, ouch.

Second attempt in the Beetle spoiled by this.

Somehow I get SR Down...

Perhaps I should stop calling it dirty hour and start calling it idiot hour. 3 wide into T1, wtf. The cars behind me were still 1.6 sec away, yet still catch up cause of the idiots in front of me to hit me after short cutting the chicane. PD you make it fiendishly difficult to drive clean according to your 'rules'.

I finished 9th with the gloves off. I pitted end of lap 4, left with almost a full tank and had to short shift in the last 2 laps lol. Bunch of red A's at the end, only a few others without a dot. Dinner time!

It was a fast room, less cars to overtake = less chance at contact. The only near incident was a ghosted GT-R recovery deciding to use his ghosting status to draft through me. I slowed in time to get out of his ghost before the inevitable unghosting bump would happen. Fast room also means pretty much a GT-R one make.

One European car left, the German-UK mixup, MacBWaren.

First attempt, went wide once at Parabolica. I had a car on my inside squeezing me to the edge, leaving me less road to brake not being able to turn in. Got to compensate more for these ****** brakes. However, my best lap yet this week, 1:49.6. The thing is fast. Contact free, no penalties, from 20th to 9th.

Second attempt, from 18th to 3rd. I didn't go wide this time, no contact or penalties, however the car is a little bit wider than the ones I have been driving recently. I went a bit too close to the inside at Lesmo 1 and touched the wall sticking out in the middle. On the replay my speed went from 136 to 126 from the bump. I only noticed where it was because the SR Up arrow was missing at Ascari. Loving this difficulty level lol. At least no 5 sec wall penalty

Third attempt, definitive result.
MKwd.jpg

This car is op compared to what I've been driving and it's not even being used anymore in favor of the Mustang and GT-R (not tried yet). Best lap of 1:49.290. Fun race! Even driving full out, still 14% fuel left at the pit.

After getting used to bad brakes, the Ford GT was easy
XKwd.jpg

Not much of a contender though, I was over a second slower per lap in this one. Still faster than a lot of other cars with great fuel efficiency (24% left at the pit) Best lap of 1:50.469 didn't cut it. I got punted off in Lesmo 1 in traffic as well, sending me back to last.

And check out this start

Break time, or maybe done for tonight. 7 cars to go.

3rd race didn't go so well. Started 4th, was good for more than half, good racing. Then someone tried to pass me into the 4 apex turns on the outside (why?) and when I slowed to give him room I hit a kerb on the inside which threw me into him. Of course I got a 2 second penalty for it and he isn't happy. Think that's enough for me tonight.
Video for this. I did screw up those two corners so I expected him to get a run but I have no idea how he thought he could pull off an outside pass there.

I wouldn't mind if they decided to switch Gr.3 for Gr.1, one of these weeks. St. Croix might be a good place for them.

Love St.Croix.

 This last race I went from A/S straight to A/B. T1 carnage. A banana yelllow SLS just bowled through. Well, that's the flash I saw. Started 5th finished 5th. A silver SLS must have been beat up as it was trying to recover. Cars passed it and I caught up to its bumper. It chose to hug the inside line and early brake, before the penalty zone. I hit the bumper and it goes off. I go off as other cars are coming around the turn. With HUD off, I don't know my total time penalty because, I was sat in the PZ for what felt like 30 seconds. Should be interesting come FIA races.

Damn, some people don't even bother touching the brakes at that first chicane in monza. Just got rammed the Juggernaut himself and I was awarded with a 5 sec penalty. Don't know what's more infuriating. I think it's the penalty. Instant rage quit.

Edit: shout out to Sven. It's amazing how deals with all those guys from the back, don't even know how he would fare if he qualified, especially by the end of the week when everyone is so fast.

Sunfungus is a good bloke and racer just takes some time to get on his good side. He’s the eye for an eye type.
I have raced you too ... Bjorn Born etc. !! I have two accounts now - To_Blitz and Blitz_to. Blitz-too was the name of a racing dinghy my son had ... I got that name for Ratchet and Clank back in Ps3 days ... to play with my 10 or so year old ... maybe 7 year old ..20 years ago??? I'm 65 so treat me carefully ...

I reckon PD could easily fix the crashes at the starts.

One way - start the races after a normal end of straight first turn. Start them just before a high speed corner.

And also - make it so the first lap, you do not have aero drafting/slipstreaming enabled.

Removing the aero drafting or slipstreaming for the first lap would lessen the lack of brake effect when close behind a car; and the gap would be bigger because of the lack of drafting. Starting the race later would allow drivers to tackle a couple of complex corners, which would open up the gaps a bit from the better drivers.

All easy for PD to do IMO.

But I think they assume that a large percentage of their players get a thrill of crashing into people. Otherwise PD would stop it happening. They don't, so they want it.

I do most nights, but there is a thread for it where I post it every Saturday, there’s a link at the bottom of my posts to the thread. Just shoot me a Friend Request on PSN so you will be able to see the room, you can jump in any time or leave any time, it’s just for fun.
Will do. PSN is nkalamu.

BjornBorgsUndies and
BjornBorgsBriefs. I also have an imposter going around called BjornBorgsJocks.

Just to prove it can happen, this is the most respectful turn 1 at monza I've ever seen. I was slightly worried about the car behind me who had a bit of a run on me but even they back out of it. I had a brilliant race with the person behind me who was super clean. I accidentally punted him through the second chicane later on, but fortunately no positions lost for either of us and I somehow still get a clean race bonus? Finished 5th but one of the best races I've had here.

Some surprising clean races in the garden, i think the lack of hard chicanes and the wide track helps, not to mention the game ghosting like it's a movie with Whoopi Goldberg.

And remember guys and girls.. the race ends at the chequered flag..

And look at this pack hunting me down:

When it clicks nothing can compare to this game :-)

Race B: Grid P3 Race P3 - Very close call, the 4th place was constantly on my tail for the first half until he spun out of control and into the wall. Felt bad for him, but managed to cling on to the last podium spot while slightly relaxing my pace.

Supra Cup: Grid P13 Race P17 - not good qualifying, considering that the Supra is in fact my weakest handling. Decided to save some fuel and be conservative throughout the race, since Nurburgring isn't forgiving to mistakes. Managed to draft through 1 position from last on the final straight en route to the flag.

Kind of gave up on the Nations and Manufacturer's Cup, since they don't seem to appeal to me given the previous negative experiences I've had in midfield.

Well that was a fascinating 11.30am at Monza.

In the Aston (with my GT-baRge QT... Shhh!) started P4 and got through the first chicane nice and cleanly. P2&3 picked up penalties so I thought it was on. But in my excitement I got on the loud pedal far too early out of Lesmos 1 and ended up sending everyone else postcards from the beach. Backwards we went then.

I went for a late stop with fuel save stratergy from then on even though we were running RMs. It was kinda working except of course my tyres went off too early and I ended up losing a lot of time through Ascari. So in the end we pitted on Lap 6 and then just went for it to see what we could recover in the last 3 laps.

It was a glorious finish. I'd recovered up to. P8 and had taken 4 seconds out of P7 coming up to Parabolica on the last lap. Still too far away to achieve anything, but you never know what could happen if they get it wrong...

Well.

I ran out of fuel.

Trunddled over the line to finish P9.

P9 of 20 I thought. That's not bad considering. Oh wait. No. Who knows what everyone else had been up to whilst I was sightseeing. But it turns out I finished P9 of 12...

Glorious...

First race on a Saturday in the Genesis. I got tapped from behind in Ascari while following close behind traffic. Nothing to do about it, too many slow downs in the penalty zone causing congestion in Ascari. It's chaos already, lot of red ratings including As and Bs. The Genesis is pretty quick. I did another race last night with it and got a 1:49.8 with it. Unfortunately also tapped from behind. It has great brakes while being able to draft pass as well, good for racing from the back.

Second attempt, starting 20th, my favorite spot. Must not pass anything until after lap 1 Ascari. Can't get in between recoveries, penalty zone slowdowns and slow traffic. The penalty zone really makes Ascari the worst place in the backfield.

Second attempt, a MacBWaren defends the inside on the way to Parabolica. Sure go ahead, you don't stand a chance against the brakes of the Genesis. I keep the outside line. Then just before the 100 marker he swerves left to block while slamming on the brakes :banghead: Can't avoid that, SR Down for me. Got to remember I'm dealing with low IQ here, Saturday morning.

Third attempt spoiled by a GT-R. It started with a MacLaren trying to out brake the Genesis for the chicane... All I could do was to stop to avoid him, but should have just turned in and give him a penalty. Instead the next car comes through who screws up the exit at Lesmo 2. The next car now tries to dive me at Ascari, pushes me into the rumble strip but I hang on. So now I'm slow out of Ascari stay on the right. The next car coming up seems determined to pass on the right where there is no room. So I move left to avoid him bumping me but he moves left as well after realizing his car doesn't fit on the right. I get Sr Down of course despite getting bumped into the grass sigh.

Then there's this specimen at the end. Avoid at all cost. He claims I hit him first. F GT-Rs.

No penalty for him whatsoever, just keep on ramming.

4th attempt. A MacBWaren keeps ramming me at the apex. He doesn't defend the inside, he has to brake early, the Genesis can brake really late, so I am fully alongside before turn in with enough speed scrubbed to hug the inside, yet every time he proceeds to ram me at the apex, not once, not twice, 4 times until he finally gets a penalty from ramming me into the inside wall at Parabolica. I lose 2 spots, one crashes out, the other a clean pass at the second chicane. I catch up to the MacBWaren after the penalty zone and he rams me into the wall. Sigh. He was the only one leaving the room with a red A, I always seem to find them.

5th attempt. I go for the last resort, no stop. I save up fuel in the first 6 laps so I have 50% left for the last 4. That seems to work but don't uderestimate Brazilians.
Jjo64Nb.gif

3 sec penalty, clean race gone again. He claims I braked in the middle of the turn... No brake input at all.

Penalty system 5, me 0. I give up for now, sun just peeked out. Saturdays suck in GTS.
