I can't believe this just happened! Never thought i would reach such a number.

That has nothing to do with display latency. Display latency comes after your online lag, it's simply the time it takes for a frame to be rendered and then to appear on your screen. The game is already rendering the frame with outdated information.

So if you're racing someone with 150ms ping, while you have 40ms ping to the server (broadband test is useless since it simply selects the best server for the best test results). That's 75ms for his data to get to the server and another 20ms to arrive on your system.

Then the game does it updates and renders the frame. It's a 60 fps game, so 16.7 ms per frame. However it rarely syncs up with transmission and most games a double or triple buffered to smooth out the frame rate. Not all frames take the same time to render. About the fastest console games can output a stable frame rate is at about 50ms latency since the last input was measured.

Now add the display latency on top of that, if outside game mode, that's 90ms.

So when you're racing that particular person, his last recorded actions happened 95 + 50 + 90 = 235 ms before you see it.

Damn,I got a headache from reading that. Too many numbers. :dunce:

Congrats on the 1 clean race streak. 👍 :P

I was at Interlagos earlier and have to confess I completely lost the plot on the last lap and started hoofing people into the middle of next week and back....

Some Swedish dude took the brunt of it, but he did weave to defend the long right hander going into the middle of the circuit. I wasn't actually trying to overtake, he came back across after defending the inside, I was on outside line, but had to swerve inside to miss him coming across me. I braked later than usual after having to straighten up, bounced over kerb and off the side of Swedish guy.

2 corners later he hoofed me as 'payback' (?). That was it, I completely lost my 🤬

Usual reasons had built up a fair amount of frustration:

Hit and run penaltys
People defending 16th place as if their children's lives depended on it
Complete inability to understand and accept that someone who closes you down by 1-2 secs per lap will get past you no matter what
Just because your car is in top 10 fastest times and mine isn't doesn't mean that you're faster and must, therefore, be infront of a car that isn't in top 10 times (especially when point above also applies)

Oh well... :indiff:

These were DR B / SR S euro lobbies..

Mission accomplished for the day, reached DR.1 doing 10 lap races on Interlagos. It still took 560 km to go from 17.3K DR down to 1, sitting out the last lap in the pit. The races hardly got easier on the way, only in the very last race, with only 465 DR left and 14 people on the grid, did I manage to get the fastest lap. My best lap today was a 1:40.626 in the 4C.

I did get close to top 5 every race with a best 10th lap in 2nd before pitting. Races were decent today, not that many red ratings around but still a couple troublemakers every race. I used the SR budget a few times to 'educate' one of the troublemakers. In SR.S daily C you get one free punt, still blue S after 10 laps. SR.S is too easy to get and has too many points to spend on bumping.

Then you have all the lag, so much lag, lag lag everywhere. This one wins the trophy for most lag I've ever seen.

Impossible to race with that. He caused me to spin out at some point while I was still 5 cars back from him lol. Too distracting having that dancing around lap after lap.

Anyway DR.1 SR 99, safe starting position secured for N24 tomorrow. At least for the first race I get to start last or near last. (Any other DR.1 entries likely end up behind me with my massive race count)

Wow. That's entertaining.
So I guess he's using his cell phone as a wifi hot spot for his PS4 (not sure if that's possible), or he's actually located in Sri Lanka.

Holy heck. I have seen bits of drop out and re-appear lag but nothing like that in person. Aliens have possessed them! I would be curious to see what the race looks like in their replay one time as it must have most of the field doing similar stuff to them as well. How can it even translate input to have the car flying over the track? Oh well. Congrats on the DR drop to kick it off at N24.

Brake balance for the Gr.4 Alfa.

What's everyone using?

Was about to use an "anything but an Alfa" joke, but I see you won.

I used a cell phone for a hot spot on my PS3 about 7 years ago. It was much more stable than some of the players I've seen on GTS.

My theory is, since he didn't get disconnected, that his download stream is likely unaffected and he sees everyone driving normally. If not he would have been taken out for sure at some point with a field of cars dancing around him. His upload stream must be completely scrambled to explain what's going on here. Still the game should be able to make more sense out of that if the data packets are properly time stamped. Perhaps they are not since this looks a lot like data is received and processed out of order.

Been busy this week so have just burnt up the mileage allowance (and more if I had time) grappling with Suzuka. I find that track so slippery and I lose a heap of time through the last chicane as I struggle to get the car balanced through the transition so end up being super conservative - also can't find the line consistently without triggering track limit.

Man, I am excited for next week's B and C races. I love when both appeal to me.

I'm excited and a bit sad. I'll likely miss Big Willow again with my N24 addiction. How many hours to go still!! Should I stay up until 3am to get in the first race or go to bed early and get up before dawn to race. I have a problem.

I'm at 570 races completed at N24 and hoping to add at least another 100 next week. And I'm typing that with a straight face :embarrassed: 7 hours of racing a day, that track is going to be the end of me. Luckily it's only a 17 minute race so I'll still get some stuff done in between

Mission "get the McLaren on leaderboards it has no business being on" complete! My third P8 in EMEA at the end of the week with a 1:37.415 in the 650S. Unfortunately I just lost out on the top McLaren spot as my rival put in a 37.400 a few minutes ago. I'm not going to contest it, congratulations to him  Maybe there's a new OP car? 💡

How's the tire wear on these? I'm looking for an underrated manufacturer for the next FIA season, good tire wear is a must since i'm on pad, been thinking of Citroen and Renault, but would consider the Mclaren too.

I'm on pad as well and the tire wear is pretty decent, a bit of tire saving will go a long way ;) Fuel is the big issue, though not as much with these new settings.
