I need some help, fellas. This lap replay has me feeling bewildered. This dude is currently #5 in Spa qualifying for the Asian region. I've watched the replay about 5 times, and I can't figure out why it's so fast. If you don't look at the clock, you'd think it's about 2:30+. It just looks so twitchy. It even looks like he's steering with a D-pad.

This guy is an alien, for sure. Look at his qualifying history: https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?profile=1617833 :boggled:
He's top 10 in Asian every week, which basically makes him one of the fastest in the world.

I'll never be remotely as good as this guy, but I feel like I drive the track way smoother (I'm 2.5 seconds slower :indiff:). I tried using the same car against his ghost. Ha ha. I damn near lost sight of him. It looks like he screws up a bunch of turns in the lap.
I guess I'm hoping someone can explain why the lap time is so low. I just can't see what he's doing that's exceptional.

Please watch. I'll appreciate any insights.

He uses the handbrake on most turns to get the car to rotate faster.

So, I have been racing on Spa all week and having a lot of fun, but loosing both DR and SR. I have mostly been driving the Viper and been pretty consistent running 2:32. (I am still just D/A).
Today I tried a new car and are having a blast! On first try I matched my Qt on second lap, then into race. First race went p11 to p7. Second race I went p9-p3 and gained both DR and SR.
Found a new favourite gr 4 on Spa for sure!
It's the Mclaren 650s

I had to Google it.

Q: Do race cars use handbrake

A: No - Most racing cars (and certainly not F1 cars) have a 'handbrake' - so 'locking' the rear wheels (like a rally car that has a hydraulically operated brake on the rear axle) would be impossible. ... If you break that bond (by locking or sliding a wheel) then you will loose grip and the time just melts away.

Welp. Been making some good progress with the wheel. From barely being able to keep the car on track in spa to regular top 5 finishes among A A+ drivers. A podium here and there. But still some work to be done before I'm able to challenge for a win.
I ran TT for nations on the gr2 and I actually beat my controller time and I'm a couple of tenths away from top ten. Not gonna race tho. Haven't practiced with tyre wear and a car fully loaded with fuel. Don't wanna make a mess on the race. Next week is gonna be good practice for this. Gr3 Ferrari is gonna be a pain LMAO.

Not bad :)

Holy cow!!!
Guys, you're not gonna believe this.
I know we've talked about it before, but it just actually happened!
I'm so excited. I can't believe it happened right in front of me.
I laughed out loud so much. I still have the biggest grin on my face. :D
Look at what this idiot just did.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

A selection of classic Croup C Machinery will take to the track once on Friday and then for a pair of 15-minute sessions on Saturday.

That's an awesome gift for this holiday season. I bet this was your reaction:

It just looks so twitchy. It even looks like he's steering with a D-pad.

That's because he does steer with the d-pad. He also uses X and Square to accelerate and brake, and has continued to do so since at least the GT5 days. He is basically all the proof you need to know that you can be "alien" quick with literally any kind of control method.

And yes, he does use the handbrake. As unrealistic as it is for using it in a racing car, it does help give understeer-y cars a bit extra rotation that wouldn't otherwise be possible, especially in the front-wheel drive cars. The usage of the handbrake used to be quite a lot more widespread during the GT5 and GT6 days, but it was often met with a lot of controversy just because of how silly it looked.

Yeh.. not ...entirely... accurate. There are more things in heaven and earth @O604 than is dreamt of in your philosophy ;). And more cars that classify as race cars than F1 :p. @MaxAttack , off the top of your head, can you think of race cars that use the hand brake on tarmac?

:lol::lol::cheers: Wow!!
That should be in a top 10 fail.

I noticed he really nails turn 1 & he carried that all the way down the straight, He also took a big bite out of the first part of the last chicane & really straightens the chicane.
At least as compared to how I take those corners.

Here's a somewhat detailed video explaining the unfair 20s penalty I got for not using Hard tyres on Race C (when I actually did) a couple of days ago

I couldn't upload the entire 20min long race.. My internet is too slow for that..

Edit:
Have we actually raced Gr.3 cars at Autipolis before? I can't recall..

Edit 2: The answer to my question:
First time for group 3 at autopolis in daily races.

They did an FIA race with group 3 a few months back.

I think next week's N500 Race B messed up the rotation. Should be Gr.4 Race C. Miss out on trying the Supra the whole week, until I do the FIA Maufacturers on Saturday, at Tsukuba. Not the best track for ultimate performance.

Edit: Got nudged off at Pouhon by a 650S that had .5 seconds. It gets another 4 seconds added after hitting me. It quits. I mean, if it had waited, it might have had a chance after serving the penalty. Patience...

Next race was cool. I passed two cars for 3rd, at the bus stop(while I had .5 seconds for Eau Rouge), while setting FL. 3rd got the spot back after I served my penalty. Tight finish from there to the flag.

Have a look at McLaren's banned F1 tech activated by an additional foot brake.
