Going to assume Autopolis is a no stop sprint?

It's not a strong track for me, so I'll likely be running my 'Vette from the back, all week.

Yes, but you probably have some real world car knowledge to aid you in making those “2 minute” adjustments. Not everyone has that, in fact, most people don’t. It’s the entire reason why performance parts were left out of this game in the first place, Kaz himself said they were left out because not enough people have the car knowledge these days to know how to tune cars.

I play this game for its plug and play features and spec racing, if I wanted to tune cars I’d play AC or PC2 where the tuning actually works properly.

Most bike riders should have an immediate advantage for race B. The majority of them will understand suspension adjustments more than the majority of non bikers. I'll be taking a shot at quali. But, probably won't race it.

I have been riding bikes since we'll before I was legal age, and am a trained mechanic. Still, I thought the suspension was pretty good as it is. I softened it a tad but worked mostly with the toe-in, toe-out.

I am going to miss Catalunya and the formula cars deeply...I did manage a win last night down in b b land. (hehe b b Bad Boy maybe?)

So on b race can you enter any car you set to n500? I’ll enter but won’t change any tune except maybe tweaking the top speed to set the gears...
Nova n500 May be the car of choice...
People can tune all they want I’ll take the inside turn 1 and hug the curbs all the way around. Might change name to J_Cousteau
Haha haha tune all you want! I’ll still shove ya off! Bahahaha humbug!

I hardly have any car knowledge. It doesn’t take a genius to see that it has too much camber and too little springs.

No. Only the RE Amemiya RX-7.

I do understand suspension tuning pretty well (for a novice). The last car I spent any time tuning was, I believe, the Dodge concept in GT3. It was super light (1500 lbs?) and could have LOTS of HP, and was basically undrivable at high HP levels. After many hours and maybe 200+ laps, I had a car that could beat anything but an F1/GTP car, and came close to those in some sections. I don't have that kind of time anymore.

Maybe if PD had downloadable setups of the top 10 guys, so we could get something we know works, it would be worth it to me.

Edit: as someone who has tuned many bikes (cars, not so much), the one thing that has a huge difference, and we can't touch, or even monitor, is tire pressure. WTF?

My (very) limited testing tells me that it's not a bad base set up.

At least from a bikers perspective (ignoring the LSD) if we feel the car doing something, we'll have a immediate thought as to why. Losing traction out of corners? Might need to soften the compression/spring rate at the rear, etc. I'll probably play around with it on Thursday night.

Wait, what? Tuning? Eff that.

Yeah, it's a shame, I was looking forward to Race B after hearing it was the Amemiya. I come from a background of playing arcade racers (Burnout, Outrun etc.) before and I value accessibility more so... tuning isn't for me. I also prefer to have performed well based on a level playing field instead of who found the better tune for their car.

Race A is likely where I'll be spending most of my racing time at.

86 Limited must be the new fav from PD

86 is in general. It's probably the most used car for Race As. Too bad it wasn't the N300 group of JDM cars this week although it could've been worse: a tuned Honda Beat.

I'm really happy to get tuning allowed for a race, finally. Let's not forget, just because it's allowed doesn't mean you have to change anything if you're content with the setup.
I usually waste more time trying to find a car I can use than actually racing, because I don't want to lower either DR\SR, and likely because I still have to use the default PS controller, ugh.
I just hope this turns into a regular thing. There's plenty of set ups available from others in the forum, so one doesn't have to look to far to find something if they aren't happy with the car.
Now, can we get tuning allowed for say Nurburgring, where it will make the biggest difference by just loosening the springs.

Video game tuning is video game tuning.
I will race my cars stock except for tuning top speed.
Without being able to observe the tires and read temps across them it’s silly.
Of the cars I’ve driven in game I am always fastest stock, except for gearing on track.
Lowering ride heaight and stiffening doesn’t help in fact often hurts imo.
I’m just not in the camp of tuning at all.
The game takes enough practice to be good as is without having to fight people that are using tuning based exploits.

I'm somewhat suprised that you're the first person to mention the (traditionally ridiculous) toe settings.

Since GT5, that is the very first thing I change, even without having driven the car, which I haven't yet. A bit of tinkering may be required for those unfamiliar with what it actually does, and not to be confused with general turning behavior, but it is the best way to get any preferred "steering feel" whatever that may be, i.e. : tight/loose, under/oversteer, snap/snap recovery. Again, this is just the feel... wheel users may not notice as much of a difference as DS4 users, I don't know.

After that, it's the LSD, then the FDR and gears, and finally the rest of the suspension.
(usually ;))

Exactly, so you DO have some real world vehicle knowledge. Most people don’t, that’s the point. It’s easy to see when someone beats you in a different car, you can just try that car. When you get beat by someone with different settings you can’t just look to see what settings they used, and until you can, tuning in Sport Mode is not fair to all players, Period.

What's the point of Race C this week? It's just a flat out sprint with no fuel or tyre saving to be had.

Spa really screwed me last week, so I was down to a rating of D/C come Monday morning.

Started 18th in the Evo, was in 5th by lap 3, went to 6th on lap 4 to stop a knob behind trying to take me out on every corner with their constant rear taps and dive bombs. The knob behind soon took themselves out half a lap later. So back to 5th. Soon enough others in front span out and I was in 3rd.

Gained 2672 DR points, and just 14 SR points.

I did get a 3 second penalty on lap 1 for overtaking under a yellow flag. The fact the 2 cars I "overtook" where ghosted as they caused the crash, and a 3rd was on the grass off in the distance what was I supposed to do?

But, such a boring sprint race!

Not trying to be a jerk but, suspension tuning is almost the only tuning allowed in RL racing events\series. You don't hear drivers saying it's unfair they don't know their opponents suspension setup, period.
In all seriousness, look through the forums for setups or ask somebody! Saying it's unfair just seems petty. I'm not saying it's unfair someone with a racing wheel is still beating me, using the stupid PS controller, thats life, adapt or stop complaining.

You lose way too much time navigating that chicane in the pit entrance to make a stop viable in race c. If you could just drive straight in then it might be worth pitting.

Real racing drivers have race teams and mechanics/pit crews to tune their cars for them or help them tune their cars, some kid sitting at home playing GT doesn’t. This is not Real racing and it never will be, period. You will never know what setups anyone else is running or if they are using odd setups to exploit flaws in the game, which is usually what happens.

If tuning was so great, then most or all Lobby races would allow it, but they don’t, because the tuning is this game sucks and 95% of people don’t wanna deal with it, they just want to race. Rarely do you find non drift/drag lobby that allows tuning. That right there shows how many people “want” to tune cars in this game.

Exploits... It's PD who made and decided. Exploits are a very harsh woed

That’s true, but many other racing games have had people find exploits via tuning settings.
I’m not saying that’s in this game.
I think those of us against tuning have visions of going online and getting destroyed by people with better cars.
On alt though, thinking about it more,
It doesn’t matter to me.
No way would I do it on main tho.
Alt is seriously the best move I have made I race online way more than ever and spend very little time hotlapping.
Stress free fun! I’m really enjoying it.

You mean, using an alternate account? Without a doubt, it makes it less stressful.

The problem I have with tuning is you know they don't monitor races, so you know they won't monitor tuning. I'd be all-in for tuning if taught us things like in past GTs against AI or driving alone. But the inconsistency of players, controllers, controller settings, connections, etc.... just makes it too complicated and suspect.

The name of the game is fun. The cars should be optimum tuned for fun.
