Had a great race C in the 0030 slot last night. Started pole with my 21.281 Q time in the Mitsubaru WRX, got away to about 1.7s and looked after the tires. I made a slight error around half distance and the 911 and Beetle behind me got into slipstream range. They stayed within a second of me for the remainder of the race, but I was able to fend them off thanks to the tire saving I had done. I finished 6 tenths ahead of the Porsche, with the Beetle a further 2 tenths behind. Shame I couldn't save the replay because I had no space :( Saved the recording though.

Still plugging away at both the B and C races, even though, with my newly found A rating I'm starting near or at the back of the pack in both races. I typically finish mid pack and have gotten a few top 10's and maybe a 5th. My A rating has been tumbling, from a high of almost 39k to about 32k now. I may finish the week racing on my alt to try to keep the A. I should be more competitive next week.
I'm thinking about entering some FIA races. Any tips would be appreciated. Do they all require pitting? Tire wear and fuel always on? BOP on? Any other info I might find helpful?

Mountain all around. All together we tumble down. And the smoke lies on the vally floor. And the blood dries. While we spill.... Yeh.. that about sums up my fall from grace on what had the potential of back to back victories <cries>. After some considerable effort, I managed to qualify ahead of my GT-R time with the WRX. My tale of woe begins here :rolleyes:. I was headed down Conrod, when the timer showed me 0.4s ahead of the aforementioned qualifying time. Clipped the wrong part of the entry into The Chase and picked up a 1s penalty, so the lap was not counted. The upshot was P2 instead of pole <cries some more>.

The race starts, and I'm right on P1s tail. He made one move to block me on Mountain Strait, so I had to swerve onto the other side. I was next to him approaching Griffins on the inside, but he refused to yield, so i had to scrub speed and mes up my run up the hill... but I was still close. I got a better run through The Cutting, had 3/4 overlap going into Reid Park on the inside. Again he refused to yield.

I caught up again across the top of the mountain, he didn't do so well with The Dipper. I was kinda already committed, and just didn't have the car control for that roller coaster. I slammed into the side of him, picked up a 1s penalty, and moved into 1st place. I was too focused on staying on the track which car he was, and I assumed I was about to serve my 1s, at which point he would get his position back.. that didn't happen :( . It wasn't until Mountain Strait that I served my penalty. I was passed by one car, not the guy I crashed.. he was in a GT-R (I remember that from the grid listing), not a garish purple Megane. I was close on his tail, but again picked up a 1s penalty at the cutting :banghead: (no contact with anyone). I was passed again.

On the second lap going into The Chase, a guy in a Lambo (I knew this was going to happen... if there is a Lambo around, it *will* find me :rolleyes:.) decided that 1/2 a car width between my car and the inside kerb was Lambo sized. Off I went, flew across the track going back the other way, found sand, spun, got on the track, spun. At one point I got the "your going the wrong way" warning message. By the time I had it sorted I'd dropped to P14 <cries a river of tears>. I managed to scrape together some self respect and finish P11.

SR down 5, DR dropped 400. Another day above DR 1 :rolleyes:.
 
Had some busy days around Christmas and made my first races around Laguna on Thursday. It seems those 3 days before were not enough training even for some players in the top split. :D
Good for me to make my way from P5 on the grid with one Top 10 driver in front.

 
Anyone with the same problem?? Every race I'm in its one of two things. During the race I get thrown out because of server issues, or I can't even start warm up because Im thrown out because of the same issues. I am thrown back to the D category by losing over 5000 DR this way :(
 
I’m going through a little bit of withdrawal. We traveled to my sister-in-laws for the holidays. I brought my PS4 with me because I thought my nephew might like to play, but there’s not really a TV in the house that’ll work.

I wish I had left it had some I could remote play at least.

In other news, I ordered a G29 and it should be on my doorstep when I get home.

I'm still slow at Bathurst, but I have found some speed from The Cutting to Forest Elbow, and especially through the esses. My problem before? I was getting off of the brakes at the end of Skyline and downshifting too much and too early, getting me sideways and causing problems. I can now do 15's in a race (woohoo!).

Laguna...How the hell are people going so fast there? I think part of my problem is consistency. I've been watching my speed through the left just before the climb to the corkscrew, and I'm usually mid 90's coming out, but I have seen low + 100's, so that is a HUGE amount of time if you're talking +5-7mph all the way to the corkscrew. Same goes for Rainey...sometimes I hit it right, and the speed is amazing, but I don't really know what's different. I do think road camber has a lot to do with it, kind of like the final corner at Big Willow. Get a bit too far right, and you loose the camber and go wide.

Any tips from you fast guys are always appreciated!

I shared replays of online sport mode qual time trials in the Mclaren Hyundai Vet and Megane, all from this week so current physics. You should be able to load the ghosts up in sport mode qual if you wanna see a clean line. Those are clean laps and should be repeatable.
Times are 12.7 to I think 13.3.
Might be more approachable than a top ten replay...Hope it can help, for any of my friends too.

Tyre wear always seems to be worse when you're on a controller. It's cost me a league championship...

I've decided to go back to ABS Default. ABS weak just puts too much wear into the tires and it's cost me races.

When there's no tire wear, I find it to be a bit of a toss up with ABS weak giving a little more stability, but it's not worth the cost.

Race C really is a race of attrition as any small mistake carries a big time penalty. I've done a few races today, just trying to be clean, consistent and take care of the tyres whilst trying a few different cars. Best race time of 19:10, needs some improvement to be competitive.

Nothing like getting rammed off the road two (clean) races in a row by the same clown and then told to "learn to race" afterwards. :lol: I'm going to stop there for tonight before I get upset by it.

Probably a good idea. It may *claim* to be "The Ultimate Driving Simulator", but at the end of the day, it's still a game. Games are meant to be fun, and if you aren't having fun, probably a good idea to take a step back 👍. Much better for your sanity ;).
 
All this week of racing at the mountain, has really dirtied the track. I mean, will the Marshall's sweep up this mess?Must Must have been dirt left from the previous race. A Jag can't pull up at Hell Corner. I tip toe threw there. Then, another Jag is spinning after T1, I arrive and my car is sliding.

Started 8th. Got up to 6th and then the dirty tyre thing happens.

An RCZ is off gathering itself. Spinning tyres for traction. Another Jag at Skyline. Once the tyre get dirty, seems to take a good while to clean them up.

Careful out there.
 
Just in case anyone wants a break I have a lobby open n200 and below on short tracks. Might race in 30 minutes or so if anyone joins.
Loose and friendly room is on Brands Indy n100 rn, but no participants yet.

My last race on the mountain was a doozy!
Cool though I met a new friend there running the vette! He beat my Megane! There’s a lot of good people in the dailies, but they can be bipolar at times.
 
Did what I said, and raced on my alt at DR-B and SR-B/A. Best finish this week at the mountain. Started 4th, finished 4th with a trip back to 6th on L1. Raced at Laguna, started P3 and P6. Blew T1 in the first race and slid back to 9th on the first lap. I compounded my error by not minding my dirty tires and making 2 more errors on L1, but drove L2 clean and was back to 6th, with 5th-3rd within a second. Remembered it was a long race, settled in, and pushed those in front into over-driving, and took advantage when the did. I had P3 by lap 7, with 2nd in sight. Made up 2 of 4 seconds in 2 laps, then he got wide in T4 and I was on his tail. Almost bumped him coming up to the corkscrew, and was an his bumper through Rainey when he went wide and caught some dirt coming out of T10. He got sideways, ghosted and shot out in front of me right at my brake marker for T11, and...dissapeared! Not sure what happened, but he was DNF at the end. I was 4 seconds back from the leader after I saw him send up a dirt cloud that lost him 1.5 second coming out of T4, and I held the gap, and got maybe .3 on him the next lap, but he pulled away after that. Both races were fun, pretty clean and consistent. I was doing 25's and 26's all race. I'll take it!

Edit: I tried the Megane at Bathurst. I hate it, but I think i did beat my fastest time by a little. I will say one thing. When you get it right, down through the esses and into forest elbow is incredible in that thing. I can see why Meganes would always get caught up through there

Race B is where I'm at 90 percent of the time. Win avg 7 out of 10 race. Race C is great to track but the driver is insane and careless. Race A lol not in my league lol. Forward to Race C next week(Mon),

Fwd does suck, and the Megane is slow up from Cutting due to fwd, but changing technique a little to not overload fronts does make it a force, because nothing can touch it on a straight except a Megane.
Almost impossible for a person to pull out on it if no mistakes are made on exit.
I wish they would nerf that thing, but after finally giving in it’s just very well suited to racing Panorama.

I watched that replay you shared from Tsukuba too, and you were fast there, fast and loose like you said. I like seeing people share those videos cuz I like the replays...I’m not gonna say laptimes but DAMN! You were on fire!

For me I’ve won a and b but on alt, c not my thing this time

Yeah, those races were a blast. What about that guy that nosed me out of second and got the FL. He was backin it in to the corners and really playin'. He could have left us in the dust if he wanted, but he was having too much fun. In the earlier races when he was leading and I was in second, he could pull out 59.8's and .7's whenever I took back a couple of tenths.

Trying Race C in the Supra. Starting 12th in a 1:22/23 room. Mostly A+.

Edit: I pit lap 5. All that for one spot up.👎

How many people would love to have full damage, strong short cut penalty , strick track limits and we have to use two tyre compounds.
Maybe mix it up with choose of three tyres not just two, and the tyre you qualifying has to be the type you start on?
Has a poll been done for this before?

@250Cal I was wrong, that was a different lap. I didn't have space to save my Q lap's replay so I uploaded the live footage to YT instead:


After my 76th win in race C last night, I got back past 70k DR to finish off 2019 at 70514/99 :D Didn't expect to get this far, a year ago I was only just reaching DR A :D Let's see what 2020 brings :cheers:

Or
you saying that people can't drive a race without crashing?

Yes alot off us do because too many people think you win a race on lap1 and ram you off to get pass you even if their are slower.

I am sure you and everyone knows that you take it easy on lap 1 corner 1 & 2. If you don't then you are parts of the reason a lot of people complain about race starts.
If you are one of the few that take it easy in the 1st few corners then you will less likely get into a accident or spin.

I race F1 2019 in a league & in public lobby we race with full damage and you see straight away who can race and who cannot.

Putting on damage will show who can race and who cannot.

Only bad drives & rammers run away from full damage.
That my view.

Following on from another poster's wisdom, I ordered a new DS4 yesterday, too.

GT is not a hard core sim, it’s supposed to be racing for everyone. What you describe is not racing for everyone, it sounds like you would like iRacing better. 👍

I don't concider myself a bad driver, or a rammer, but remember, THIS IS NOT REAL RACING! No matter the damage settings, there will always be someone willing to push too far. Even in real racing, you swap paint sometimes. (even on motorcycles!) If someone gets inside you in some spots at Bathurst, and doesn't back off and give you a shot at the apex, they might loose some paint. You're into the wall, and out of the race. Just like the penalty system can be gamed, so can damage. The inside is safe. I can pit manuver you and barely scratch the paint on my bumper.
I do this for fun...like most here. Even if I still had the skill, reflexes, and eyesight to make the worlds, I'm too old to start a racing career, so I do this when I can. I also work full time, and am a single dad. If I sit down to race, I may only have time for one race. I don't want to NOT be able to race because someone behind me missed a brake marker because he was so close to the guy in front of him. I've done it, and I imagine almost everyone else here has too.
I could race with damage, and would do well most of the time, but the mentality of some people racing online is not the same as mine. I love close racing, and having fun battles, over any finish position. Some are all about winning at any cost. High performance driving, and riding, has always been something I've been good at, and I have no doubt, that with a different mentality, with full damage, I could finish a race, maybe even win, and take out every car on the way to the front, with minimal damage to my car. I would never do this, but some would. They're the same guys that bump you going in and send you into the dirt, or get a little overlap and pull a pit, or wait until you're next to them in a legit pass and bump you off track or into the wall. None of those moves has to do much damage to the perp, but all are fatal to the victim.

That's my view.
