The penalty system cycle is almost seasonal. Around 4 changes a year. Around the same noticeable changes. Lately, it's been jumping from Winter to Summer, skipping the transition seasons. Borderline tolerable has been the temperature for most of the time.

Thanks for the reply. I can't believe I almost miss the old system. It sucked getting pens for little and sometimes nothing. At least you knew that a lot of the times a punter would pick up a pen or two down the road but that's just not the case now. Struggling to adapt to the new style

Ollie mentions another problem, arguably the biggest problem with that particular daily race last week. Rolling start. Ugh. Why on earth are the cars so far apart for rolling starts? I was perpetually starting behind the final chicane (matchmaking hates me) and if I didn't kill that chicane then I was immediately out the draft and the race was basically over.
Agree but TBH I always caught at least two folks who make small mistakes and cop 0.5 sec penalties that are really 2 seconds.

Slow top speed. Trophy = Slophy
Come on. Nicknames need to be ironic. Should be the Speedhy or something like that.

Spa is the bane of my existence, ... the entire lap demands utter precision, and if you make a mistake anywhere you lose tremendous amounts of time.
That's what makes it great. :D

Edit: When he started in 3rd place during that video the initial gap between 2nd and 3rd was .951, while the gap between 3rd and 4th was over a second which is just ridiculous. Everything he says in this video is spot-on.

Not just Spa. A few circuits have this issue. Obviously nothing will change in this regard. I suspect all PD would say is get faster.

I think I was in a few lobbies with you last night. I gave never been good at Spa...mainly because I have never really put the time into it. I kinda-sorta started to get the hang of it last night and had some good racing. Some clean, some not. The Bs are a mixed bag of guys just passing through on their way to the A’s, solid B racers, and Genuine C racers that will be back their shortly.

Admittedly, most of my positions gained and positions lost came from mistakes. The course does promote good racing, but you have to borderline dive-bomb someone to make a genuine pass.... or race side by side and yield until one of you outbreaks themselves.

it’s a tough track, because the main line is very fast, and anything but the main line is pretty slow. Like others have said, you really have to trust the guy next to you to play fair

So did the races in reverse order today thanks to timings.
Race C.
I quite like Autopolis and my record there is quite good. I only had the chance to pop 1 lap in before matching completed. Therefore I started 12th so started on Meds. Kept it clean and on the track. The RC F is really good. It corners well and has decent acceleration. A few people fell off the road around me so made steady progress. I was following two Frenchmen go at it one in an Audi the other in a RCZ. The RCZ lost and the next lap I swung past the Audi into turn 1. (Fair play to this Frenchman he raced well.) However later in the lap a German in a Corvette barged past me putting me offline and allowing a couple of other cars to pass me again. I once again fought back. But again I was slowed by the Audi as I couldn't find a clear way back. (I don't barge through) I was going to pit lap 5 but lost track of the laps as the action was decent. The others around me pitted lap 5 and by the time I realised I was past the entrance. Up to 2nd and decided to see what I could do in clean air. Was still slow thanks to tyre wear. The Croatian who won decided to barge me off just before the bridge rather than be patient on his way through. So I lost time to those I was hoping to overcut. But came out not far from them. The first lap though was awful as I felt I was on ice but eventually got my grip back. Still felt better on mediums though. Finished 8th in the end so a decent work forwards. I probably had the pace for 4th or 5th, so will need to get my qualy time up.

Race B
I'm not too adverse to this reverse. It's miles better forwards but enjoy it this way too. Not a fan of the time of day. It makes the final chicane blind. I didn't have the time to make a car deliberation so jumped in the META Supra. Put in a banker lap and of course I was 2.5 seconds up coming into start finish straight on lap 2 before the black screen. Will need to pop in a better lap here too. I started 15th. I didn't overtake anyone on track and made it to 9th due to other's incompetence. I was 12 seconds off the lead so not slow, just on pace with those ahead.

Race A
Got a time just under my K speed target for here so please no-one in EMEA go faster this week please. 5th on the grid. Decent start and everyone holds file. The two guys ahead start fighting and coming into the final 2 corners I have to slow to avoid them. Of course this invites another German to barge it up my inside (what is with them today?)but I have space to hang it around the outside. Unfortunately this means he can nudge me towards the grass coming onto the straight and I go around. (Discretion would have been better here.:banghead:) Back to last but 1. Though he goes for an ambitious move into turn 1 and overcooks it. I am 12 seconds behind. I am only a couple of seconds behind at the end and make up positions due to offs and finish 8th. Could be a fun race but a lot of potential for nudges off.

Yeah, after last night's race, the M4 is good. I just chose to start on RS. S

I used Slopra, intially, for the GR.4 Supra. Was getting eaten up by Gr.4 86s! It ain't so slow since its first BOP update.
Plus, I got that name from my old mechanics. One specialised in 240/260Zs and the other Toyotas( he had an A80 Supra turbo). Well, they raced on the street and the 240 beat the Supra. The 240 was fitted with a turbo. Hence, he named my friend's Supra, "The Slopra". ;)

Last weeks race C highlights:

*May contain upsetting use of the pit entry, I'm sorry!

Good set of highlights looks like you had some good racing.

While you had a top ten time for race C last week I thought for a laugh I would try to follow your ghost car. It didn't go well and I couldn't even make it through the first set of corners before you disappeared in the distance. I kind of got fed up with seeing the ghost reset message and then seeing your ghost for all of a second before it was gone again.

I think you could have been driving a 10 ton lorry and I still wouldn't have kept up.

I one day aspire to be overtaken by the real car and see it disappear into the distance rather than the ghost (it's never going to happen but let me have my dreams.)

So far I have only had time to run B twice. First race I started p14 and by the final chicane I was passing a BMW on the outside to become p9. But he would have none of it and just ran straight into me and T-boned me into the wall. Both where off, I carried back on in P13 I think it was and he quit.
I was going to out him on my naughty list but I saw he was DR E so I'll just be vary if I see him again.
Finished P11.

Ran two laps of QT, started o10 next race. Worked my way up to p4 when a French driver with a name from a soda decided to just give me a little push at the bottom of the esses, sending me into the wall and handing him 2 seconds.
Unfortunately I didn't catch him so he finiy2 spots ahead of me. I was in P7

My thoughts and predictions after a couple of weeks of "almost no penalties".

The races have become more "bumpy" - that's clear. The more interesting outcome is the changing player mix. Anyone who wants to be SR.S can make that level. Since they do not get reset their DR will increase to reflect their skill. It means there are whole new groups of players joining the A/A+ ranks.

I had forgotten this side effect of the lax penalty system. If I can get some good QTs, I might be able to make hay until the next penalty system adjustment. I always said that I would retire my main account if I could get it to A. If I work hard, I might retire it with A+. :p

Guys that have been playing for a number of years, is the current pen system likely to stay in place for a long period?
I'm really struggling to find the enthusiasm to play the daily races. I understanding the changes to the system but for me personally, it's made the races borderline intolerable

The real question is how long have you been playing? If you've been on the game long enough, a BoP or penalty change is expected & most of us find a way to adapt. Some people are the guinea pigs...I mean, the enthusiasts. :p They will get on track first after an update & typically report back what they find. One option to think about is to not race in this week's daily races. Perhaps you don't have enough practice at a particular track or class of car. That might be a good sign to set up an offline time trial to learn the track or car. The only other option is to take your knocks in the daily races & learn in real time with real players.

I see we have a Max the third now.

I had too much fun (especially around the pit entry)! With hindsight the Audi probably wasn't the best car to use for qualifying, it's fast but so nervous it's hard to get a full lap out of it. Hopefully we'll meet on track sometime

I had the account about 10 years ago but only just found the recovery email, people saw through my disguise :odd:

I've only been racing daily race B so far this week, doing my best to split up the supra's with my RSR. Picked up wins 89/90/91 so far. Seems people are able to hotlap the supra but not so good in race (granted I'm only in B rated lobbies)

Ran race A a couple times from the back tonight. I saw the combo, and knew I would have to give it a shot. Got my Q down below 1:01, then decided to hit the alt and see how the racing was. Last race was the best, mainly because the first lap crazies allowed me to get clear in 3rd by the half lap mark. 2nd was all over, but doing enough to make a clean pass impossible. Finally got by on lap 5, and tried to run down the leader. Lap 6 got me FL with a low 1:00.7 (.25 faster than my best Q time), but I came up short by 1.5 seconds...speaking of short, this race should be 10 laps, not 7. At least 9 laps. There's 10 minutes on the clock when you're done. Good fun! I think this, and race C will be where I am this week. Might have to run my main in A and see if I can get my A back. Should be able to stay up front if people are clean, but passing will be tough.

In my first attempt at Race B, I started second and the guy in pole messaged me in the lobby to have a good race. I thought it odd, considering I usually have rotten experiences with his fellow flag bearers but I took it as a good sign.

Fast forward to halfway through the first lap and he was now behind me and punted me all the way to Mordor. There was no coming back from it.

I, of course, thought he did me dirty but upon looking at the replay, he simply had made a mistake and received a three second penalty. He then quit the race shortly after. I wonder if it was due to the penalty or because he was ashamed (after all, he had wished me a good race at the beginning). I feel bad if it was the latter.

My quali time is 1:40.1 and has been good enough to get me good starting positions. I believe I can shave another second or even two off of it for when I get back to DR B.

By the way, why is there so many desperate drivers? I'm here to have fun and overcome challenges but it's like people have their sense of self worth tied to their DR. It was bad in Siege and now it's affecting my time in this game, too.

I have suffered a catastrophic wheel stand failure. Unlikely I will be able to race at all for a few days. Given my experiences so far, that may not be a bad thing.

Have tried the Cayman, Slophy, 86 and WRX in Race C. I enjoy driving the 86. It feels nimble and I can get on the power nice and early, but for some reason, I’m still quicker in the Renault and the Subie.

I cannot seem to decode Autopolis in these cars though. I have been competitive in Group 2 and one-make races there, but the Group 4s just won’t work with me.

I was so friggin happy to wake up this morning and realize that that GT4 Spa race was gone. Spa is the bane of my existence, I hate that track, it's impossible to pass anybody, the entire lap demands utter precision, and if you make a mistake anywhere you lose tremendous amounts of time.

I wake up to a BRZFRS race which is hilarious and I'm pretty good at, an Autopolis race which is a track I've never driven before this morning but am already doing well at, and of course GT3 death chicane which I'm not particularly interested in.
BreezeFreeze?
The great equalizer. Everyone does.

It's best to adapt as quick as possible. Then complain. At least that way you're caught up with latest memes.
I could get used to this, but I'd rather not 'race', and get past people only due to penalties, than having to door slam so much.
Just my personal preference. Chasing people down and looking at gaps is my favourite part of racing. I kinda miss the old penalty system now.

It'll be back. They do like this once a year or something, when the complaints get too loud the sort of turn it off for a few weeks then back on.

I really wish there was some middle ground to be had instead of minor tap is 3 second penalty and punt someone into next week give nothing. Actually no scratch that I would settle for some consistency and if every minor tap was a 3 second penalty then at least we would know, it would suck, but at least would know and could try to adjust accordingly.

As it is now I have had clean races and I have had races better suited to Wreckfest. It's neither good or bad for me and all I tend to do now as mentioned in a previous post is either laugh or sigh (more sighing.)

At least two of the places gained were due to yellow flag penalties for the cars ahead... some payback for my 6s penalty yesterday :)

I need to get my quali time up a second or so I think!

Update: 2 disconnects in a row, and then another 9 place gain (3 of which were due to the starting grid glitch).

Final race, up from P8 to P5, got an angry driver behind me that got a 3s penalty and tries to dive-bomb me at the final chicane on lap 1, missed & went into the wall, I’m through safely and.... PS5 crashed!

oh, and likely a DR/SR drop for the disconnect, thanks

Had one go at race B last night and a couple of race C. I established very quickly that I don't have the underlying skill or the track knowledge to cleanly negotiate that chicane quickly, in traffic and 4 times in a row (I can manage 2 out of 3 from that list). I won't be back there.
Had fun in race C, even if I got punted twice on lap one of one of the races. Started 9th for both and finished a few spots higher in the GT-R. Both times I went 5M/5S and gained a few spots on the undercut. Also realised that my skill and consistency is the limiting factor here rather than the car choice. Might try a couple of different cars, but I'm pretty comfortable in the GT-R. Might have a run at Suzuka tonight to see how that goes.

Hi, probably Im in minority but really like this weeks race C. Set QT on my alt using 86 1.50.1xx, did 2 races in the morning 2 PP, two wins... 86 is really good on tyres so I managed to do 7S/3M both times, really fun race for me:) Come on people give some love for Autopolis, when you do, it gives love back;)

I can't go any faster at Autopolis now, I've tried +1, +2, +3 and +5 BB and set basically the same fastest lap with them all, you'd think one would suit me ever so slightly more but no, I can't improve. So it's nearly time to try some other cars on my US account.
