Today I was playing Richard Burns Rally, and I had one of the most insane damage situations that I have ever experienced. I was driving in NV and I made a small mistake: I hit a bump. That bump threw me off of the track and into a tree. That tree sent me for a wild barrel roll. When I finally settled down, there was smoke coming out of the car, which turned out to be that the radiator was sheared and the water pump was torn off. The alignment was messed up so I had to keep the wheel at 45 degrees to the right to stay straight. There was a transmission problem so I had to keep the RPMs under 5000 or else I would redline. I even destroyed the brake master cylinder, so I had no brakes

I had to drive 2 miles, some of it downhill, with all of these problems, to finish the rally. Another thing to consider: the damage setting was REDUCED, not Simulation!!

I feel like there should be an option for this kind of damage in GT5. How far would you want the damage to go?

We already know that we will not have massive visual carnage. I'd prefer that damage affects the performance of the car as realistically as possible.

But I think we will probably see something more like Forza in GT5.

As long as I can turn it off then any kind of damage is fine by me. Realistic, unrealistic - couldn't care less.

In the confines of hardware limitations, their knowledge limitations, and contractual limitations, I want the damage (both visual and mechanical) to be as realistic as possible, with options all the way down to "No damage".

It should be just FUN to play.

Oh... My... God... A new "thread of ye damage".

For some people, "one hit and you're out" is fun. For others, playing bumper cars is fun. How does your reply relate to the poll?

Real damage without governments intervening into the development of computer games.

Why can't we have a new poll. Like what colour socks people will wear when first playing GT5 or something.

We do not know how bad AI is. So realistic damage could knock you out if AI goes kamikaze. Damage works well in forza(half good damage works with half good AI)

Yeah that would take the monotony out of the threads Spagetti69, great thought dude :) 👍.What about flying around the world on Concorde, without the need of money from the corporate B's :).

Realistically (maybe unfortunately ) we can't expect full visual damage on the road cars at least.
I would be perfectly satisfied if some sort of mechanical damage affected the driving.
The most important aspect in my opinion isn't A.I. but how it will be implemented online, i wonder how they'll going to adress it.

I'm not one of those people demanding damage, but it would be very nice, and the main argument for inclusion for me is when i try to enthuse friends and try to persuade them GT is a sim, they always reply with the simple; "not very realistic when it hasn't got any damage, is it?" :ouch:

Fortunately Analogue fortunately 👍.

i want damage to come along if you can't drive properly like, clutch wear, brake wear and if you keep jumping for your suspension to collapse. I wouldn't want these to happen spontauously i woul like warnings like "clutch wear high, do you wish to replace now for a low amount of money" so you can take risks and say no are maybe pay the price later with slow laps or complete failure which would cost you more and would make the game that much more er risky.

I would also like the A.i to be wrecked as i would love to smash say a Le mans car in to a Mini are then use both be wrecked in a mess of carbon fibre and mini

That thread is nearly a year old. I get that people shouldn't be creating new threads if there's another one with the same topic hanging around but resurrecting a year old thread?

And rewind. AI takes you out and all you have to do is rewind. Anyway you bring a good point. Realistic damage calls for great AI. I'm sure however that even if the AI is epic people will be crying it's garbage because it doesn't yield if you brake late into a corner...

Just a note lads/ladettes.

If you had ultra realistic damage, you wouldnt be able to play online. As if anyone did ram you you'd both be out, so in reality you wouldnt finish too many races, unless they were with 'honest' opponeents.

AI mode, it would be fine though.

You should find some people to race with. You'll be surprised how many are looking for some clean racing.

First of all, i'm not a lad ;), and i agree that ultra realistic damage and fair online races don't mix quite well, but that's the same as IRL.
Granted, drivers IRL don't in general crash on purpose ( except when Briatore is your boss, ahem ), but this all depends on how it will be implemented.

If you could hold private races online where you can trust your opponents it would be a welcome addition, and in the open online races it could only apply to the guilty driver, maybe totally unrealistic but at least fair.

Now the biggest difficulty with this is determening who is guilty within a fraction of seconds.
And with guilty i mean both crashing by accident and crashing on purpose as it would be impossible to distinguish these two.

Online will have a private match making function or it will be a huge disappointment. So I'll be racing people on here / other decent sites who aren't idiots 99% of the time. So realistic damage will have no affect on my enjoyment of online races.

I voted for real, but I am expecting Forza-esque damage. The ideal solution is selectable options, everybody's happy. Once you figure out the full damage model as a developer it really can't be too hard to knock the percentages down and call it 'semi-real' mode or whatever. We need options like the best PC sims from even 3-6 years ago.

As real as they can get it to be.

Single hit and your car is dead, but this is not happening, not in GT5.

Also, GT mode must have a more forgiving damage system, since the AI is crap and ram you all the time.

^ Quote from the man, the myth, the legend himself
You can have it so if you have a single hit your car isn’t going to be able to be driven anymore.
Do you think that would mean the car can get totaled or would it be like Forza's "not able to be driven"?

I beg you pardon?

KY: “The damage physics are going to be applied to things like a bent suspension arm, tires hitting the wheel wells of a car, deformation of the body affecting alignment, the loss of power to the engine. We’re still working on setting the sensitivity level of of the damage. You can have it so if you have a single hit your car isn’t going to be able to be driven anymore. It’s a matter of adjustment.”

I am pretty sure this has been mentioned before in any one of the other ubiquitous damage threads, but the ability to boot a dirty driver, either via the "host" of a private event or by vote of participants would be almost a requirement if damage was selected for a private online event.

What's the point in having another thread wich dealing with exactly the same question?

That thread is nearly a year old. I get that people shouldn't be creating new threads if there's another one with the same topic hanging around but resurrecting a year old thread?

Doesn't matter how old the thread is. If there is a search function, why not use it then. In this way we avoid having to 48 threads dealing with exactly the same subject?
