In blatant copycat style I'm going to create my own thread similar to the TMTV thread (especially since TM invited me to do so). Discussion about any of these videos is encouraged.

Episode 1 - Milton Friedman

Background on Milton (and intro to a great piece on his life):

A few of his theories:

Crappy video, solid message

You don't have Milton on The Open Mind show? That was a good one.

They're all interesting, but this video is great - I love it when you hear someone articulate (and perfectly succinctly) some random thought that you personally may have had... this simple point, about a humble pencil, is exactly the sort of thing my cousin Richard would say - and draw a raised eyebrow or a stifled bemused laugh from one of our parents, dismissed with a "typical Richard" (meaning "why does Richard always come out with such weird stuff?") and a roll of the eyes... but the point is a fascinating one if you cared to entertain it for a moment. The simple fact that it does take thousands of people, all unknown to each other, to make a humble pencil is really quite amazing. The way Freidman talks about the power of the free market is almost like listening to Carl Sagan talking about the blind force of Evolution - requiring no central guiding hand, but yet it's a shared enterprise that involves everyone whether they care to admit it or not.

Anyway, interesting vids - also a pretty good insight into what makes Danoff tick. If those were posted anonymously, I'm sure it wouldn't have taken a genius to figure out who selected them!

Episode 2: Ronald Reagan
Like Milton Friedman, his message still rings true today, and we should still be listening. And like Milton, he almost never says something I disagree with.

It's a bit technical, but this next one shows an important gap in understanding of economics between Reagan and other politicians (like Bush Sr.).
