I can't be bothered to argue over this anymore. The fact remains that all retailers have changed the date to the 5th November. You can repeat the rules all you like. The bottom line for me is Sony are the manufacturers of the product and as stated by the play.com email they have informed them about the change of date.

Still two days won't matter and hopefully I shall recieve this a day early.

P.S Famine yes I have previously got the dates wrong. However im not alone in this because I remember reading in the news section on this site how GT5 was likely Dec 2009. You stick with your rules whilst I shall prepare for GT5 on the 4th/5th November!

Fact 1 : Retailers have changed the date of GT5 release to the 5th November.

Fact 2 : All official, publicly visible, channels still quote the 3rd November for release.

Fact 3 : GTplanet only quotes official release dates. Anything other than official is deemed speculation.

Look at those three facts, see how they play nicely together.

No one has said you or anyone can't believe what the retailers say, that is your choice. I personally believe it is very likely the release will be on the 5th in the UK for most retailers.

Although it's not from any official source so it can't be deemed as such and until Sony UK publish/announce a date other than the 3rd it will stay officially as the 3rd.
My argument is that it is from an official source because who else would of contacted play.com. When they say "manufacturer of the product" its pretty obvious its Sony.

You have no proof that it's from an offical source, you're just taking retailers word for it. That doesn't mean you can't believe it but don't expect others to follow (like Famine and the release date thread).

I haven't got a clue what it is you're even arguing about.

Play have told you that Sony have changed the release date.
This is not Sony telling you that they have changed the release date.

* A release date that comes from a shop, a shop's website, a shop employee or anything to do with a shop is not the release date unless there's a fluke coincidence

It wasn't when you made a thread to tell everyone that the facts and the bottom line said the release date was 25th September 2009 (and game had been in the warehouse for two months already in July 2009!), nor when you made a thread to tell everyone that the facts and the bottom line said the release date was 27th November 2009 nor now.

When Sony tell you what the release date is, that's the (projected) release date. Right now, they're telling you November 3rd on the official UK Gran Turismo website. That's the (projected) release date. If and when it changes to November 5th, that's the new (projected) release date.

So long as you're getting the information through a third party with no word from Sony, you're not getting official information.

P.S Famine yes I have previously got the dates wrong. However im not alone in this because I remember reading in the news section on this site how GT5 was likely Dec 2009.

Indeed - we received word from a Sony insider that the launch date would be 11th December 2009 and it was corroborated by a second, independant inside source so we ran with a potential Christmas release. This date was pulled for no reason we were able to ascertain. Amusingly, many of the major games sites changed their dates to 2nd/3rd week of December after our story. And the Release Date thread? Never carried this date because...

* The release date that comes from SCE or Polyphony Digital themselves is the actual, albeit projected, release date.
* A release date that comes from a shop, a shop's website, a shop employee or anything to do with a shop is not the release date unless there's a fluke coincidence
* Neither is one you heard from some blog somewhere.
* Or a mate who knows this guy who...

Sony never made the announcement and the information, though from insiders (and scanned on Sony-headed paper - though I won't say which region or department), was essentially from a "mate who knows this guy who...".

In the event, GTP was wrong and the Release Date thread was right - because the Release Date thread has rules about announcing release dates which it stuck to, even though I thought the date GTP had was correct - what I think is irrelevant.

The current, Sony announced release date is November 2nd for the Americas, November 3rd for the West Pacific and Europe. November 5th is a speculated, rumoured release date from some retailers.

You stick with your rules whilst I shall prepare for GT5 on the 4th/5th November!

Makes no difference to me. I'm abroad on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. Right through to the 10th, as it happens.

Sony Australia has stated in one article the Australian release date is on the 4th (as I expected)

I'd heard about that, but I've been busy with TGS and forgot to check. Can you confirm by the medium of links?

Or a third-party distrubuter.

Or in fact, nobody contacted them and it's just the standard copy-paste reason for a change in date.

No your right. Obviously play.com just made this up and coincidentally all other retailers followed suit!

Just been on the official GT.com website for the UK and this just states Nov 2010.

I never even insinuated that, infact I said I believed it is likely to come on the 5th. That doesn't make it any more official though.

I also have received this e-mail and to be truthfully honest I don't have a problem, Games in the UK usually get their release on a Friday. Sony could have it to retailers by the 1st and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't release it till the Friday unless instructed by Sony to do so. I was expecting a Friday release anyway and the 3rd as a date is just a European date, so some part of Europe will/might have other days when games are released, say for example a Thursday and wednesday, then a 3rd of the month release for Europe is fine, just the UK get a Friday so it has to be the 5th.

Is it possible the online retailers are being told to wait until the 5th, to give the physical stores a chance to get a slice of the action by people actually going into a store to buy it? Just a thought, if you are eager enough you're going to make the trip to the store to pick it up if you can get it a couple of days early.

I know I will.

Maybe PD said the 3rd as the date the copies will arrive at retailers.

4th for processing/sending.

5th for games to arrive at customers.

My guess is that PD gave away the date that they will ship the game to retailers and so retailers have given 2 days allowance for processing/deliveries.

That sounds like a bit of a fundamental balls-up.

Games are always released on a Friday in the UK.

The retailers seem simply incapable of doing it any other way.

Whatever the European release date for a game, in the UK it will be released the following Friday (never the Friday before).

Usually everyone else gets it on a Wednesday and the UK on a Friday.

Very annoying when it comes to MMOs as you always end up a few days behind.

True, it's also annoying for games with plots or features that haven't been known previous to release. Simply avoiding the forums is easy enough though.

I was surprised when i looked at the calender and saw that GT5 wasn't going to be released on a Friday, so now that we know that it will be i'm not too surprised.

I ordered the CE of amazon and are yet to receive this delay email. So untill I get that email I'm going to pretend all of this is a complete load of B-S.

and that is fine, until they tell you otherwise you should expect it when they say you should. that's why i think one official release date doesn't matter right now. it is all pretty fluid at the moment when you factor in delivery time. and the closer we get to the 03rd/04th/05th the less it will matter

I have pre-orders on Amazon and Play...

Play have mailed me to tell me that it's 5th Nov... Amazon haven't contacted me yet.

c.

same here, no email telling me there is a Delay... I'm guessing that if there is, they'll tell us... if not... yippee!

Yeah just checked my dads email again. (I have no credit card so I used his paypal which uses this email address) and no email yet so I'm happy.

I think that companies might be doing this so they send it out on the 3rd so it arrives on the 5th. Or if this is true only for the standard edition so people who order the CE get it earlier so more people buy that one. (This is what I hope anyway)

I still think this is a load of rubbish though and it might be one big mistake where they get confused by regions.

Amazon have on their website 5th of November, I cant put any screenshot up but you know where it is anyway, so Amazon just seem to be slow informing their customers. I have e-mailed them just to get the skinny.

The only reason it has been delayed is because games in the uk are traditionaly released on fridays.

Amazon Ce is still on the 3rd.
Normal edition is on 5th.

So no biggy. This is just retrailers BS.

I have the Ce so i'm ok until further notice

I agree with you however Halo was released world wide. Tuesday for UK I think.

GT should be no different.

I would just like to let everyone know that I pre-ordered from Amazon UK and I still have not received an email telling me my order will be delayed, and when I go to check my outstanding orders on amazon.co.uk, it still says the order will be dispatched on Nov 2nd. I pre-ordered this game a while ago, before the CE and SE were even on the table. It could be that GT5 will be produced in limited quantities and therefore people who are pre-ordering now will only receive the second batch of GT5 copies delivered to these online retailers. This is only a suggestion, please don't kill me for it...
