Its widely been accepted that retailers can post the games on the Wed so the customer recieves it on release day. At times it does arrive a day early but here in the UK first class post does not always mean next day delivery. The game producers accept this which is why its been allowed for many years.

That doesn't mean Sony will change there mind and put a stop to it !.
Real world shops get shafted big time if they let a game leave the store earlier than it's release date, why should online retailers be any different ?

Is this delay just for the standard edition or is this for the collectors edition aswell. Cause if its the standard only then that would put a completely different reason on why this has happened. Just wanted confirmation on this.

Thanks
Luke

Well, Amazon do still show a release date of 3rd for collectors vs 5th for standard... Whether that's right will remain to be seen.

Of course, saying that holding up the cheaper standard edition by a couple of days to sell more of the collectors edition to keen fans would be pure conspiracy speculation.... ;)

Given that all resellers seem to be doing this it would appear to be a Sony thing rather than an Amazon one?

Steve.

On Amazon.fr it's still listed as November 3rd.
http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B002KMIELS/

I'd still say it's a UK thing to prevent loss of sales to other european countries at launch.

GT5 from my local retailer = 69.99 euro (released on November 3rd, by the way)
GT5 from amazon.fr = 63.99 euro
GT5 from amazon.uk = 45.40 euro (37.91 pounds)

Our eleventh anniversary is on the 5th November. I just laugh to myself whenever she mentions it.

At the moment it looks like that might be the case. I have a single order with Amazon for regular and collector's editions (still haven't decided which I want since I can't have the US CE) set for 1st class postage. I received an email telling me of the delay, but this is only for the regular edition and my order is now showing two separate deliveries with the CE due on the 3rd and regular on the 5th.

I posted about this back on pages 2 and 3 of the thread. Yes, the banner does say 'November 3 release' but it doesn't say where in the world. The banner is a direct translation of the Japanese original and could therefore be referring to the release date in Japan.

Elsewhere on the GT uk site and the SCEE site, all mention of a precise release date has been retracted. Some may disagree but I think the fact that the release date has been deleted is a clear indication that Sony themselves are no longer promising a Nov 3rd release.

In all my years of buying video games I have never seen a different release date for the standard/special editions. The standard & special editions always have the same release date.

Like I keep saying just accept the release date for the UK will be the 5th November, for the lucky ones who purchased online they may get this on the 4th.

I have yet to recieve a Email from amazon regarding any delay and they still list my pre-order of the CE for a 4th nov delivery (next day royal mail).

This pre-order was made less then an hour after the CE was put up on the amazon site.

Just imagine this scenario: the 5th Nov is only a day away or so and yet your account still says "item not yet dispatched" The 5th arrives, still says "item not yet dispatched" Now, this happened to me with Forza 3. I was going absolutely ape****, phoning them up and asking WTF was going on. They said that they hadn't received the game from the supplier apparently and were oh so very sorry :ouch:

In the end, went up the town and bought it in Game. Luckily, they still had some copies. Better not happen this time round, I swear.....

When i've pre ordered from play.com i've always recieved the game before the email telling me its been dispatched. Just thought I would mention this to the members who have pre-ordered with play.com. This only happens with pre-orders though.

All this discussion and confusion makes me laugh.

The explanation is simple. Games in the UK are ALWAYS released on a Friday. Whatever the EU release date, the UK always gets the game the first Friday afterwards.

The 3rd of November is a Wednesday, the 5th is a Friday.

The only time I've ever seen it happen differently is with WoW expansion packs.

I'm pretty sure Modern Warfare 2 wasn't released on a Friday. It's a pretty big game to overlook.

Similarly, GT5 will also be a big big seller.

A Tuesday - 10th November 2009. Not to mention Black Ops, slated for 9th November 2010 - also a Tuesday.

And "Get fit with Mel B!", in for Thursday, November 4th.

Halo reach?

pre-ordered gt5 from gameplay, and the release date has changed from the 3rd to the 5th of nov, i asked them why they said "Our website displays the latest information provided by the publisher and is subject to change. Unfortunately we have no control over release dates and those that are supplied to us are subject to change".

Walking past my local game today, they had a notice in the window.

"Midnight opening for Gran Turismo 5 on 5th November 2010 at 00:01!"
"Be the first to play the racing game of the year!"

I will get a photo tomorrow.

If GT5 gets delayed for the U.K,
This can't be good for the N.Z release:scared:

That just sucks:grumpy:👎

Aust too! I guess we will be pushed back to friday the 5th aswell.

No, our games release on the thursdays (4th) usually, which is the date Sony Australia has recenty given us. This is hardly what I would call a delay, it's just regional "politics" at work.

Thats good to hear because if mine doesn't arrive from play.com I can at least buy it at midnight on the 4th.

I was thinking earlier that the only downside to these different release dates is knowing someone will post the GT5 intro on youtube. I really don't think I could resist the temptation of watching it.
