explain the way you take a lap.

I will try to do one myself in a few days.

Hopefully this will be a popular thread.

Wow, this should be a bit of an interesting thread.....

I usually start my laps to the outside of the track, the outside being the opposite side of the first turn. As I approach the turn, I hit my braking point and brake in a straight line while shifting down. I immediately begin to cut across the track after letting off the brakes and accelarate to the apex of the corner. I will usually let off the gas and just tap the brakes if I'm carrying too much speed. I then punch the gas (or gradually apply pressure with spin happy cars) and turn hard to make it around the corner without scraping the wall or running off course. For tricky turns (like the turn before the second tunnel at Apricot Hill), I may keep the car in 3rd gear and coast around the turn so I won't have to deal with all the sliding and spinning. If I'm trying to get the fastest lap possible, I'll shift down to the appropriate gear and punch the gas along with countersteering at the same time to keep the car straight.

For computer cars, when I'm ready to make a pass, I'll usually fall in line behind them. Then as we approach the corner, I'll duck to the inside and brake later than usual to get by them. I make sure to hold the inside line so they won't execute a "double pass" on me.

On the straights, the same rule pretty much applies from the part above about entering the first turn. "Slow in, fast out" is the ideal way for me to get around the course. For sweepers (like the one at Apricot Hill or Midfield), I'll start the turn on the outside then cut across the track and get the 2 left wheels on the rumble strips, managing the throttle to maintain stability. And for chicanes (like the ones found at SSR11 or Cote D' Azur), I'll enter the turn from the outside as usual and turn in to point the car in between the inside and outside walls, brake, and accelarate on through the corner, sometimes clipping the inside curb on the exit.

And just so I won't discriminate, I'll even throw in my rally driving techniques.

I enter turns from the outside as usual, but this time I brake while turning in to swing the back end out, all the while shifting down to the appropriate gear. I accelarate full throttle through the turn, making any countersteering adjustments to keep the nose pointed towards the inside fence. Since the dirt causes more friction than the road, I usually lose speed in the drift and shift down to a lower gear to get an extra boost of accelaration coming off the corner. For the extra sharp 180 degree turns, I use the hand brake instead of the regular brakes to send the back end almost all the way around. Shifting down to 1st gear, I fight the slide and hit the throttle to keep the car from sliding too far out to the outside of the track and countersteer greatly to get the car pointed back in the right direction. Looks great on replays :)

Me at Cote D'Azur.

Speeds (all in mph) approximate and based on using the Arcade version of the Calsonic Skyline.

The speed at the start/finish line should be near 115 or more.

Staying to the left, I brake down to 70/75 about when the metal barrier to my left ends and ride over the rumble strip.

For the next turn I brake down to 75/80 and keep to the left, revving through.

Next, I brake to about 60-75 a bit before the turn, riding the rumble strip on my right.

On the left for the downhill part. When the ads on my left are about to end and the metal barrier starts, I brake down to 45/50, rev through the turn and get to around 100?

I brake to about 30, outside going in, and rev through the turn at 25/30.

I lift a bit an ride the rumble strip to my right that is prior to the next turn, using it as a direction changer.

I brake to 45-55 for the entrance to the tunnel, riding the rumble strip to my right.

For the chicane I brake when I can get the speed to around 40 and keep neer the rumble strip, following along it.

The rumble strip on the right, leading toward the next turn, I will ride fully, or near the end, and brake on it to 75-85.

I will brake down to 60-75, positioning myself so that I am near or riding the rumble strip at the end and to the right. A lift for a change of direction and I am off at around 55.

Second to last turn, about 35-40.

For the final turn I will lift just right so that I can go throught it at around 70, no braking for the final turn.

Laptime: 1:31.176.

Hope my memory was good on this.

Me at Mazda Speedway, in my 515HP RX-8 with crome wheels(I used the $1 car code, it lets you change wheels)

When you go to settings and run, it starts you next to the pit entrance, so I'm going from there.

Get going, to about 40-50, cut the left corner, slam on the gas in second(I set the RX-8 up so that 1st is useless, and 2nd is just right)and fly up, and then down the hill, top speed about 155 or so. Slam the brakes untill slowed to 60 or so, and make the turn, and slam the gas again. Go around the next corner at about 65, and the next at about 80. Slam on the brakes, and slow to about 45, and make this left turn, and slam on the gas again. Keep it floored up the hill, and turn(full gas)and just go up the hill. When you get to the top, you should have been going 145(if you're in the RX-8)and you should get off the ground for a second. Slam the brakes, but it's too late, you just het the wall at 95mph. Gather the car up, and floor it down the corkscrew. Make the sweeping turn at about 90-95, and get up to about 120 and hit the brakes. Make this turn at about 70-75, and you're where you started.

Enjoy your day at Mazda Speedway at Laguna Seca!

What I do in my first lap:

Well first off, all the mods in my cars are set for rally handling (drift). My type of driving style, is to brake at the last minute, powerslide the turn, and Hual ass out of the turn. And if you're thinking, Damn:eek:, this guy must be all over the track driving that way, actually No. I stay on the track, and I hardly (if ever), hit the walls, or other cars.

Okay then, now to the question:
First, I try to put a big lead as possible from the AI cars, after I have a comfortable lead, I test the turns to see what I can go in and out of with ease, and which I slow down way too much on. On the straights, I just haul ass and make zig zags to warm up the tires to green. On the 2nd lap, I go Balls out, and drive reckless on the turns I'm too slow on to see if I can get an inprovement. then on the 3rd and the other laps after, I just drive consistantly for the win.
