Except that you can't. He's got four arms, so that makes him a Spider Pirate - and Bungie have said that players can only take on the role of a Guadian of the City.

I am led to believe that the decision to restrict players to human characters was made so that Bungie would have more control over the direction of the narrative. They don't want to create a universe where it's just a case of humans fighting other player factions, but rather one where there is an actual narrative for players to follow. No doubt the nature of the Traveler, the events of the Collapse, and the origins and intentions of the various factions that have mysteriously appeared on the fringes of the galaxy will all be explored - but if you could play as a Vex, or a spider pirate, or a zombie, or as one of the Cabal, or as one of the "FOTC" (believed to be a faction of Guardians of the City) then there would be much less scope for that narrative to explore, and much less freedom in the way it gets implemented.Interesting.
It will be on PS3, PS4 and Xbox 360. It's also believed that Destiny will appear on the next Xbox, but since that hasn't been formally launched, this cannot be confirmed.Intruiged by this, but it doesn't really make sense for it to be on the PS3/360 instead of the next-gen consoles, which will be out when the game is released. Still, I hope it is available for PS3, because I don't plan on purchasing a PS4 anytime soon.
The problem with that is that it contradicts the story of DESTINY. The whole idea behind DESTINY is that humanity narrowly avoided its own extinction, and is now consolidating its position in the galaxy while hostile alien threats start working their way towards earth. The players take on the role of "Guardians of the City", so they are all effectively allied. To have factions springing up and fighting each other will endanger mankind's future, so I doubt it's going to be anything like that.
I'd say it's more likely that any in-fighting among the players is going to arise at the very fringes of the galaxy. Humankind is starting to explore its former colonies, which went into decline during "the Collapse". Nobody seems to know what the Collapse was, so I'm guessing that a large part of the story is going to revolve around what actually happened during the Collapse that led to mankind's decline. There's probably going to be some evidence out there that players find, which opens up plenty of potential for factional fighting: do you make public what you find, and potentially cause panic on earth? Or do you keep it to yourself until you find more evidence to support your theory of what happened, or disprove it?
That way, the fighting would be limited to skirmishes on the edges of the galaxy, but as Bungie start revealing more evidence in future updates or releases, more and more people would start joining factions.
Yes thats right up there with the Far Cry map maker which IMO is THE best map making system out there. The map maker "Forge" in the Halo games is okay but we really need something like this. Hopefully it is indeed released with the game for the community to mess with. Halo forge just doesnt cut it. Hopefully Bungie finally took the next step. It's a little difficult to tell, seeing as how it's all done in time-lapse, but that program actually looks fairly intuitive to use. I wonder if Bungie intend to ship it as a kind of level editor?
GamasutraSpeedTree is designed to help developers create real-time trees and plants with "seamless" LOD transitions, as well as offering lighting, physics and wind effects.
The tech also includes an SDK that can be programmed to support any level of engine integration.
Destiny, Bungies highly anticipated mythic science-fiction action universe, will integrate SpeedTree for Games into its futuristic worlds to enhance one of the titles artistic themes of nature ascending over mankinds lost worlds.
Were very pleased that Bungie chose to feature SpeedTree in Destinys unique vision of overgrown futuristic worlds, notes Michael Sechrest, President of SpeedTree developer Interactive Data Visualization, Inc. Bungie had very specific needs and challenges for Destiny, including scalability from current to next-generation hardware. SpeedTree was designed with these sorts of requirements in mind.
