I just played about 45 minutes of it then a competitive control points multiplayer game. It seems to be an amazing game. I can't wait until a few friends get it. Coop with friends might make this a game that you play for years as long as they keep content coming

Hi guys, just popped on to gauge the reactions surrounding the Destiny alpha. My friend and I both have the alpha, and we are both mightily impressed with what can be done in game.

From the few hours that I have spent in game thus far, there are a few things that have caught my attention.

For

* Destiny looks fantastic, definitely one of the best looking PS4 games.

* Superbly weighted controls, but I would have expected nothing less from Bungie.

* Shooting is very tight, and precise. If there is aim assist, it is not as poorly implemented as in Call of Duty.

* There are plenty of things to shoot, in both scripted and unscripted events. With one particularly massive encounter with a 'devil'.

* There are plenty of customisation options, for both the character and their equipment.

* Co-op is superb, both with a friend or with random people. Occasionally you bump into other players in co-op mode, and you can achieve an objective together. Unfortunately, you cannot attack them. :P

Against

* This might be an issue with the Alpha, but sharing video, or taking pictures, causes the game to crash frequently.

* Sometimes the objective is not quite clear, particularly if you transition from one area to another accidentally whilst wandering around.

* Some of the interiors have a deja vu feel to them, and you find yourself questioning whether you have been there before.

The sparrow already has a nickname, we call it Jack, as in Jack Sparrow. You can often here me cry "I am off on my Jack!" or where is my "Jack?"

Here are some screen shots that I have captured.

The 'cortana like' device that aids you through the game.

I will attempt to get more ingame screen shots, and videos, but as I have stated, I am sure there is an issue with the game that causes it to crash.

That is actually a good thing. You don't real people trying to kill you while you are completing co-op missions. That would be a pain. Some of the details you explained seem to support my theory that this game is basically what Defiance should have been.

Thanks for the feedback and detailed information. Also thanks for the beautiful screenshots. I am looking forward to the co-op modes the most. I cant wait until the beta is released next month.

Those first screen shots were a little bit naff, so I have uploaded a gameplay video showcasing some of the processes and steps required to go into game. I was playing as a Titan, and this level is not too difficult, as the AI are quite easily dispatched. At 4:20 ish I pull off a double jump super fist move thingy, which looks pretty cool.

I hope you like this video, I will answer any comments, and I will will post some more gameplay footage soon. :) 👍

Perhaps not kill then, but some kind of competitive edge would be nice when you bump into another fireteam.

One other aspect of co-op mode which is really nice is the fact that every member of the team will have access to discovered loot. This does not include ammunition though, so team work is necessary to ensure that everyone has enough rounds to go around. I do not know if you can do it, but it would be nice to be able to share ammunition amongst fire team members. 👍

It surprises me that it looks so good for just being an Alpha build. Maybe it will be even more stunning on release :)

Exactly what I was thinking. Very impressive for an alpha build.

The little tiny floating "dust" or debris in the air sure gives it a 3d feel. I still wonder if they are going to announce 3d by the end of the year. Just really wishful thinking. Destiny sure looks good in Alpha that's for sure.

One that surprised me the was that I haven't seen the framerate drop one time no matter how much insanity was going on at once.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this game's supposed $500,000,000 budget. How much of that is set aside for posters and disc production?

They will never reveal the exact budget, but if a film model is anything to go by, I would say about a third of the budget will cover marketing.

Anyway, it's about time I got an internet connection. Not for the sake of gaming, but just in the wider sense of using the internet. I've been investigating possible connection plans, but I'm curious: how much data does online gaming actually use? I imagine Destiny would be usage-heavy, especially with patches. I don't want to get into gaming and then find I just chew through my downloads. Especially if the games are frequently patched.

Having said that, the two best deals I've found are 50Gb for $50/month, and 200Gb for $70/month.

500 million is for ten years and includes heavy advertising. It's not a huge amount for a AAA if you break it down.

I'm skeptical how long they can take this though. You never know what other games will happen or become popular or will people get tired of this ip in a few years.

Advertising can be expensive but normally get it back through sales and sequels. Uncharted 3 had a $25million budget and Sony UK spent 5 million on advertising here.

Left 4 Dead 2 marketing alone cost 25 million.

Bigger games like Assassins Creed Call of Duty will be much more and a few games now cost 60-100 million and have similar advertising budgets

A large part of the budget will come from profits from previous sales. So it's not like they are borrowing capital, or spending someone else's money. The risk is their own, but for a studio like Bungie, they are virtually guaranteed of putting out a product capable of breaking even at the very least. And with Destiny planned as a multi-title project, significant resources will be dedicated to future releases. They will spend the money now and make a profit later.

I'd go for the second option if there are multiple internet users in the house, or if you can easily afford it.

Nope, just me.

The problem is that I don't have full-time work just yet. I want it more than anything, but it could be years before it happens. At the same time, I need something to fill in my days while I work on applying to positions, and gaming does that fairly well.

This is Halo 2, but FHD.

Design wise everything is identical to Halo, or rather of mixture of mechanics from Halo 2, Halo 3, ODST and Reach. From customizing Spartans or whatever they are, to guilty spark opening doors, to enemy ships landing in hovering fashion to deploying enemies like Halo 1, floating boss battle just like Halo 2, etc ...

New introductions are an RPG system that tells you how much damage you are making to the enemy, and the scenario, and that's it, not much in the way of story but I got the feeling that this will be a some sort of MMO RPG (perhaps).

Now, the game is undeniably fun, but (and this is a huge but) this is ... something I have played nearly to death for the last 10 years, the game is fun but is just more Halo, and I got bored of Halo after 3, and again after Reach on the 360. Feels like the busy parts of any Halo game without context, and the fun part about the Halo game is that they gave you a really nice context to build an atmosphere and make the game less tedious. I'm unimpressed, the game is beautiful, the mechanics are functional but is more Halo, and I got bored of Halo a while ago so I don't see much point on this.

Supposedly an update is coming extending the alpha time, so I'll be looking for what will be added, but thus far my impression is a huge Deja vu, a Deja vu that I got bored a few years back.

The alpha just ended. It's gonna be a long wait until September.

I can't believe you don't like it Akira. I hate halo but I loved everything about destiny so far. Halo was just kind of pointless to me. I guess the RPG aspect of destiny really made it a whole different game for me.

I can see some of your halo comparison but the only thing I think they share is the FPS aspect. The size and scope of this game just seems like it's gonna be huge. I've spent hours and hours in the alpha and always found a new cave or tunnel to explore.

I also love how the kept the competitive multiplayer like other mmorpg games and your coop or story driven character brings their armor an weapons into the crucible. Even the amount of ammo you had before goes with you into battle.

I think bungie is going to change the face of shooters again. They're making a huge open world shooter with coop gameplay and a great competitive PVP shooter in one box. It really is 2 games in one.

I'm purposefully reading as little and watching as little as I can before getting the game in my hands. That's what I did for Halo 3 and it was probably the best game I've ever played.

However from what everyone else is saying, it's really hard to keep my Destiny virginity.

I watched one little vid just to see what it sort of looked and played like and that's it.

As I said before this is the opportunity for PS2/PS3 players to finally get a feel of Halo / Borderlands. Those of us that have played halo for all these years, Destiny will feel very familiar. Those that have never played Halo, will finally get their chance......just called Destiny.

That's also my fear of this game. Halo has set a huge landmark for gaming and has been some of my top most fun gaming experience. Hoping Destiny will be able to top that "Halo" experience. Having a huge open world MMO element will help a lot. I guess I will find out when the beta is released in a few weeks.

After I am done with the beta I will be doing the same thing to avoid spoilers. Especially if I like the beta. And yes Halo 3 was and still is an epic game. I still truly love that co-op campaign. If you like Halo 3 you should check out Halo 4. I would say I actually like Halo 4 more than 3. Both are my top favorite games. I hated ODST and didn't care much for Reach. H3 and H4 are just epic.

I am so excited for this. This will preempt my Call of Duty purchase this year, and hopefully make it unnecessary if Destiny is as awesome as I hope.

On the bad side, I've read the beta will only be playable for 10 days?

Sounds about right since the game comes out in 2 months. This is actually fairly late for a beta to be released. I would say its safe to say this is more of a demo than a beta. What we see in this beta is pretty much exactly what the final game will be.

More bad news for 360/ x1 owners. Looks like we don't get access to the beta until the 23rd. That means we only get 4 days with the beta before it ends. :guilty:

I officially have a week off PAID for when this comes out. By the end of the year I will actually have about 30 days of paid vacation I can use for whatever I want. Also having my brother over with his X1 for a lan party the entire week. Another friend is bringing his X1 also for that week. :D

I still need to get an X1 before this releases in 2 months. :O
