Hi Guys,

There has been a video poppin up lately on youtube about the city Detroit. It seems the once so mighty carcenter of the world is facing huge trouble with straydogs. As I know that there are many doglovers here on the forum and also quite a few people from the USA Region. I wanted to share this with you guys. If you are in the Detroit Region contact the people of dogrescuedetroit.com

Here is the vid (warning: some footage shows cruelty!)

There were people working on a documentary through Discovery Channel but it seems that the Detroit Officials pulled the plug because they didn't want the bad press!

You'll also find them on Facebook.

Since I am from the Netherlands it's not easy to help out locally but I help in any way I can.

Those dogs need all the help they can get!

Very kind regards,

As a dog lover, watching that was heartbreaking. :( I felt worst about that little "disturbing" footage because Dog's should never be put into that position at all, period.

Shame on the mayor for trying to sweep this under the rug. C'mon Michigan people, surely there's some love in your heart to be able to take in a stray dog from Detroit that's looking for a good home. A lot of those dogs looked like lovable pets who just had despicable owners that abandoned them!

There are more pressing matters to solve in Detroit then finding homes for dogs. We can start by finding homes for people, then by finding jobs, then maybe figure out how to reduce the crime rate and then maybe figuring out where the hell the auto industry went. Sure it's sad animals are abandoned but in the grand scheme of Detroit's problems figuring out what to do with dogs shouldn't even be on the radar.

And if the mayor's biggest issue is dogs we're doing pretty good since the last mayor embezzled millions, killed a stripper, and had more legal problems then Lindsey Lohan.

If you don't fight for the "little things in your view" it's not worth fighting at all! Those people putting all their time and effort in helping out those dogs, it can also make a positive change for the city Detroit ;)

Why put effort in helping dogs when there are young kids on the street with no home? Detroit has bigger problems and frankly it concerns me people would rather fight for the well being of animals then the well being of humans, especially when they share the same conditions.

Helping dogs won't fix the city's problems, it won't even start. Time, money and effort could be better spent on Detroit, although it might be a lost cause :(.

That's because people have different interest and make choices were to help. If they help out Dogs that's great, if people choose to help kids, that's great too. Both sides should be respected.

People help out were their heart lies. For me that's dogs, for another person that's children or elderly people. It's just so nice to see people involved in any way to help the less fortunate.

I hope with all my heart they pull it of and can build the shelter 👍

Hi All! I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to watch the video, and for spreading the word. This is Monica, the producer of the Discovery Channel show that was shut down, and the co-founder of Detroit Dog Rescue.

I agree that there are huge problems in Detroit and in other cities, including poverty, unemployment, drugs, crime, the list goes on. And that helping dogs doesn't solve any of these. BUT, to be honest, I shot that video without thinking anything other than "what the city is doing is wrong, and people should know." I filmed it in two days, driving around the city in a state of shock and anger. It has taken off in a way I never expected, and I am so grateful for anyone who has taken the time to watch it, donate, or just to spread the word.

I'm a big proponent of showing the problem in order to fix the problem. The city didn't want other people coming in to "fix their problems" even when we were looking for ways to help. To me, that is short-sighted bordering on criminal.

Anyway, didn't want to hijack the forum but I saw a google alert that the video made its way over here and just wanted to say thanks.
