You're correct - just done a plate check on it. Registered as a "Hawk". Still, rarer and far cooler than the average Bentley or Ferrari that pops up here.

Yeah, it was a modern(ish) (G reg I think) configuration plate, so I assumed it was a replica. 👍

Don't be sad Tyger, you were second closest!:)

No sadness, and I always admire your encyclopedic knowledge of such things Cano but from the little research i've done, it doesn't seem that the styling cues are dependent on the year, as I found several cars with almost identical styling and trim but across different years (around 1937-1940, I know earlier and later models were quite different again). Simply Google "Ford V8" or "Ford V8 Sedan" or similar to see what I mean.

However I did learn that the ones with the lettering above the grill (which is very cool) read "Ford" on the left and "Deluxe" on the right, which is clearly visible in my '37 Coupe pic and *possibly* also apparent in the original pic posted. So I agree it's a V8 Deluxe but I just feel determining the year is a bit of a minefield.

Anyways, I like these cars sufficiently to look into this a little further myself, but won't clutter this thread with my findings :)

Yeah in fact I can just make out Deluxe from the photo posted. 👍

The part of determining the year which is a minefield is determining how much to trust Google images. Just doing the search and scanning the top few pages to see if any of them match what you're looking for isn't enough. No matter what your search query, Google will return a hodge-podge of years and models. You have to go to the source page the picture comes from to make sure that the picture actually shows the model you're looking for by confirming with text on the page, etc.

Very easy to search for example for maserati grancabrio sport and get images of regular gran cabrios (sports car...) and even MC stradales.

And even with confirmation on the page, the label on the photo can still be wrong. Again with the maserati I was searching for from my above post, one photo labeled granturismo s was from a car show where a plaque in front of the car said MC Stradale, and from the styling cues I could tell the plaque was right, but the website clearly had it labeled incorrectly...

So generally, I need three positive ID's and no false ones to be sure at the least, and if there are false or conflicting ID's and I can't sort it out with better search queries then I just have to ask Cano or somebody else here...

Yeah fair comment, makes us actually *use* the internet as a research tool instead of being lazy :)

Plus admittedly many of the pics I checked were pretty much dead ends when I tried to find info on the source site. Ho hum!

STRATOS!

d321f66896b411e1be6a12313820455d_7.jpg

And something else. And I can't guarantee it's a real Stratos, as they're incredibly rare and expensive, so this could be a Hawk replica. But still, STRATOS!

Anyone know what the other thing is? Has a hint of old Porsche Speedster about it (so again, almost certainly kit car), and the air filter sticking out of the boot suggests there's something fairly large under that bodywork.

That Stratos kitcar is the business! The other one looks like some kind of Porsche 550 Spyder replica.

Crazy day today, and I also saw some cool cars

nice old b5 generation S4

'Cuda

I love these things, If you can't tell. also saw an old Supra today.

wondered about this Boxter thing. no badges, chrome around tail lights???

911 3.2 targa. I'd love a precise ID on this, there are a lot of models in the 80's that confuse me...

GT-R!

SLS AMG !!!

nice 280

Evora!

I swear this is a Lancia, any ideas? Edit: alfa GTV6?

California Special, just a package but still 1st I've seen

2013 Mustang? 1st I've seen if so. GT.

GT500 making a friend

GT300:odd:

360 Spider!

360 Spider!!!

360!!!!!

just look at the color on this one. never seen it before. Continental GT, in case you were wondering.

Flying Spur

V8 Vantage, my 1st!!

something alfa? had a thin rear end, you can kind of tell, looked different from anything I'd seen

NSX!

NSX!!! and I'd seen one more earlier, but has shot it last year. Still, three in a day!

Grand Sport. there was another one without stripes around the corner in the same lot. wierd day.

and I got your front end for that Laguna S3, Cano

okay, whew! And I overheated due to no coolant and later lost my wallet (found it under the hood eventually). Strange day. Mostly action shots, which is very unusual for me.

Ah, thanks, couldn't really make it out I guess but for some reason I didn't question it...

Still my 1st Vantage! Bunch of DB9's but nothing else so far...

I put them equal. Kit cars are meh. But Lancias are hawt. So it kind of evens out In My Opinion lol.

Pfft  There's pretty much a 360 and a Conti GT per page in this thread. When was the last Stratos, real or otherwise? ;)

A brace of BMWs:

First, an Alpina D3

Then, a tidy E28

This was a rare treat.. the Spyker C8 Laviolette. It still had temporary tags, though interestingly the temp tags were from about 2000 miles away from here. While I was taking pictures, the owner returned (only a little bit embarrassed there), and in a brief conversation tells me that there's only about 1,200 of them in the world.

I'm totally stoked to see one.

Cool spot, but-

I don't get why people are embarresed when they meet the drivers. I try to make friends with the drivers, I'm friends with a 458 owner, Audi R8 owners, Ford GT owners, a DB9 owner, Corvettes, Lambos, etc. I'm always looking for them lol.

I guess technically speaking I had him on even footing, since we were in a Wal Mart parking lot. ;)

Even still, it's kind of a funny feeling being caught off-guard taking pictures of someone else's stuff. Perhaps it is a result of being raised in an age when privacy was much more of a big deal than it is today.

One time l asked a guy if l could take a picture of his old green Prius. He probably thought l was crazy. He did say I'm the first one to ever ask.
