I have searched for it and i cant find it, so im asking. What is the diff between GT-mode and Aracade mode?

Lets take an example, Volvo 240 in aracde mode all stock vs Volvo 240 in GT-mode all stock? Im not sure but i think cars in arcsde mode turn better and have better handling, but then again im beginner so im not sure... :scared:

OMG just try it. GT mode is where you have your own house and race in tournaments, buy cars, upgrade, ect. Arcade mode is just for fun where you race cars against oponents.

I think he or she meant the difference in performance between arcade mode cars and GT mode cars.

Edit: Just read post 4, its a better explanation than this

If you leave everything in GT mode totally stock, then it will feel the same as arcade mode. Parts you've bought in GT mode don't carryover and settings don't either. Make sure you're using the same tires and that ACM and TCS is on/off depending how you play in GT mode.

It's just 2 different ways to play the game, but you need to play GT mode to unlock more cars and tracks in arcade mode. The gams physics don't change between modes.

I did test it on Nordschleife but you have to know the track 100% to really notice the slightest diff between cars in GT-MODE and ARCADE mode, and im not that good yet=(

Anyway thanx for answers:>

Yeah I've had the same question for a while now...

When I use a car in GT Mode... it works just like I want to... which I like...

But when I take the same car, into 2player mode, to battle my friend... my car doesn't seem to act right, is a lot more spin happy... I know it lets you change tires in 2player mode... but even on SS or SH... it still seems more prone to spinning at the slightest bump or dirt encounter...

Anyone else, other than the op notice this???

When you use a garage car in 2 player you're settings don't load.

live4speed :
When you use a garage car in 2 player you're settings don't load.

That would do it now wouldn't it...

But that makes no sense...

Now... I remember in GT3... a friend and I would race, and hit our top speeds, that could only be hit with OUR settings... I would assume that is the same in GT4?

Why 2player mode if you can't use your settings??? I'll have to check and see on that later, now that I am thinking about it...

The garage cars in 2 player were added late for the US NTSC and PAL versions, it's something that must have been overlooked, but you're garage cars have no TCS or ASM and they have standard settings.

Well if i use a car fitted with nitrous for two player, that carries over, it seems it does load the upgrades, but things like gear and suspension settings are at default. So you get your race suspension but they are the default values. Also at the car selection screen, it gives the default stats.

Yeah, that makes sense there...
The car selection shows uh... what you set... HP wise... but then when it shows both your cars right before you click start, it shows defacto settings... eh... frustrating...

They really dropped the ball on the Arcade mode this time around. It must not have been one of the things they were working on during the extra year it took to release the game (among other things).

My question is, which tire wear in arcade mode is like racing in GT mode- slow or fast?

I guess it was too much for them to make it clear, since they didn't give the option of practicing with tire wear, or the option of racing with out it, in GT mode.

Anyone test this out?

I disagree, arcade mode this time around is stronger than ever.

Options:
No. of laps? 1 to 50
Tire Wear? None, Mild, Strong
Driving Aids? Off, TCS only, ASM & TCS
Penalty? (who cares  )
Time Limit? None, Up to 600 minutes

Quick Tune-Up:
Power: -20% to +20%
Weight: -10% to +10%
Top speed: (adjustable depending on car)
Driving aids: Adjustable from quick tune screen without options screen
Transmission: MT or AT
Tire Type: !!!!!
-Open selection based on car, race cars with race tires, street cars with sports tires or "those other tires" lol.

Arcade mode has been redesigned.
Instead of allowing home garages in the game, there is a focus on the availibility of every car in the game having an arcade version.

In GT3 the arcade cars were limited to roughly 12 cars in 5 classes.
This meant using the car you wanted was almost always going to bring you back to the home garage where things like mileage, oil, settings and parts could be issues.
Issues not just for the player to deal with, but also for the Online Racing Community to deal with.

"Old Geezer" and I have talked about this before and one thing always stands out in GT4's arcade mode- It seems like they designed it around an Online mode that wasn't included.
(reasons for leaving that online mode out need to be discussed somewhere else and do a through search if you want to check it out!)

However, even without an online mode, the design of the system makes arcade mode a blast.

First is the car selection, even from the start there is a large and diverse selection. After using GT mode, all cars in the game can be unlocked as arcade cars.

Next is options... Just think about how much can be done with the options listed above.
Cars that don't match up in races can be tuned to match.
Worried about the weight of a corvette vs the weight of an nsx? change both a bit and do the same for the power!

Look further into it and you find that multiple lap arcade races against the ai (even though the ai is still pretty bad) can be customized very well.

Laps and or Time limits!
Up to 50 laps?! 600 minutes!!!

"Race Speed" can be adjusted to represent different levels of competition. This can change the cars present in the race (maybe the hp/weight levels of the ai as well).

Even the tires of the ai can be determined.
When you select your tire type for the first time the AI is based on that decision. However, once you get to the race menu and use quick tune, your tires can be changed to create an even bigger advantage or handicap!

With as many options and possibilities as I have listed it is hard to imagine that the gt4 arcade mode is not the best any of us could have hoped for.

Only Online would have made it better.

All in all though, it's pretty damn good. 👍

Kent, I totally agree. My biggest gripe with past GT's was that I really enjoy racing stock cars, I'd buy a car and tune it to race in set competitions, whenever I wanted to do a race outside thoes conditions with a stock ie in arcade mode, you'd have to buy another of each and every car you wanted to use, change the settings for TCS and ASM for each one and then save the game and that took a lot of time. I'd buy 10-15 cars at once, just to load them for arcade mode, now I just have to by them, use a day and go to arcade mode. Also as you said, some of the best, if not the best races can be had in arcade mode.

I stand by my statement that they dropped the ball on Arcade mode.

It makes sense that it's structured around the missing online mode. However, it's almost a completely different game, and I don't like that.

I'd have rather it been on a seperate disc like in GT2, so I could have both ignored it and had GT mode benefit from the extra space in the Arcade mode's absence.

I would love the customizability of Arcade mode, but I don't want "quick tune". I don't want to be frozen out from my garage. Is it too much to give the option?

Why not leave it up to your or me if I quick tune or real tune, or if I use my garage or the game's? Conversely, why can't I have the option to see the details about my opponent in GT mode like I can in Arcade mode?

If they would figure that out, to give the enduser the option wherever applicable, this game could leap in to "best ever" category.

Instead it's a beautiful, fun game that's maddeningly frustrating in its lack of options, and its lack of identity.

Seems to me like you want 1 game mode with specific elements from the 2 modes we now see in gt4.

I think they did a good job in spliting the game into two sections.

And how can you not like quick tune match ups?
Just being able to perfectly match the various cars in the game makes for great online racing challenges.

Beyond that, I feel like the arcade mode manages to perfectly compliment the gt mode.

GT mode is all about doing testing for up coming races, practice for a variety of race speeds, and AI based races that I think they could have done better with...

All of the same cars are availible, but more options for all of them in terms of tuning and settings.

Anyway, sounds like we just don't agree on some things. No big deal. 👍

If you want to FULLY tune your car, it's suspension, gears etc, that's what GT mode is for. All you have to do is buy the car really. That's all that HAS to be saved; other purchases can be reset if you don't save again.

Now for a decent race, head to "City Courses", "World Circuits" etc around the map and select family cup or one of the other races and viola! A semi-arcade race, semi-GT race that costs 5 credits! w00t!

That was a dissapointment for me, I'd have loved to have setup my own family cup races with more than 2 laps, because the AI in thoes set at 10, seems to me, far better than what you're against in any other competition.

I knew it! I tested the damn Volvo and it seemed to have better handling and better braking on Arcade mode but i wasnt sure enough=)

Now i am.

They mention the lap as soon as you start a new one, it says "L1/3 xx:xx:xxx" (lap 1 of 3 for example), but no, they don't show laps at the top corner or whatever

i have to agree with orpheus. i bought gt4 last week to get together a stable to run against my buddy. when i went over his house yesterday we discovered a big disappointment in that our cars didnt switch over to arcade mode. sorry , but i think this is a BIG oversight. i am no software engineer, but i would think that since all the data is on the one disc that it would be a simple task to translate it over to the other mode.
its a fantastic game(!!!!!!) but this was the main reason we got it in the first place. maybe gt5???
