I received my DFP wheel today and after 4 hours of just playing around I am COMPLETELY AMAZED!! The physics are very different.

For example Doughnuts. With a controller you cant do them at all. with the dfp .....

example #2: I was highly dissappointed that in the game in cant power over the evo 8 gsr, like in RL. with the wheel......very simple.

example # 3: Trying to initiate a Feint drift with the controller....possible but takes a few tries. its soo much easier with the wheel.

Im sure ill discover many more. For those of you who dont have the dfp, your missing out on alot.

DFP settings: SIMULATION, No assisted steering, Power steering.

lol the ring...with n1s and the wheel :scared:

All I know is that late last week I went back into GT3 & started re-doing the licenses again using my DFP, ( considering that when I first passed them, I had only my DS2 & wasn't worried abut getting gold every time out) and noticed that I started dropping my times! Not really that much but enough to go from say Bronze to Silver or from Silver to Gold...so, I can't wait to try the DFP w/GT4!

I'm sure I'll be like a little kid in a candy store when that time comes around! :)

I have ordered the DFP with the PAL release of the game and I cannot wait.

Only problem I have now is finding out where I can put it while playing. I've read my lap won't take the strainof the force feedback so now I'm looking at a shelf for over £100 (got a link somewhere) but I haven't got that sort of money yet.

Never spent so much on one game in my life...but it's worth it.

I've got mine summer time last year, and I have no regrets. It makes GTp so much more fun to play. So I can't wait to try it on GT4 if/when it finally gets released.

Cheers, Jamie

I'm still excited about driving an S2000 on the Ring, but not as excited as I had been. Looks like I'll need to dust off the wheel for this one.

Can someone give me some advise? I also REALLY REALLY want DFP, but I don't have the money yet untill about three months. I'm thinking of selling a few games of me that I don't play anymore. Is that worth it? I think YOU think it is worth it but I'm not really sure so.....anyone??

Yea I just love my DFP, I had some problems with GT3, in that it would like freak out and the car would steer off the track but I just unplugg it and seems to work for a few more hours, it is also great for GT4p, now all i need is that GT4 900 degree goodness.

How many games are you talking about selling? I'm told that EB Games buys just about anything for $10. So if you've got quite a stack to sell, you could get a hard drive and HDLoader, then copy all your games to your hard drive and sell them all to EB Games. If you've got 20+ games you'll be able to pay for the new hard drive and HDL, plus have a little left over for the new wheel. And the only thing you won't have is physical copies of the games.

Is it possible to change the setting between power-steering and "normal" (unpowered) steering??

What is the effect? Is there a difference in initial strength of force feedback and in neutral zone?

My son and I got a DFP for GT3 a year ago. Neither of us could stand it. The horrendous resistance and loud noise of the potentiometer was unbearable. We struggled with it for three hours and returned it for a Mad Catz Universal. We consider the MC to be a perfect wheel-and-pedal setup. Control of the cars in GT3 is completely realistic.

(Note: For some reason the default is a huge steering deadband. If you get an MC wheel, make sure you always go to zero deadband with the "Accudrive" adjustment every time you start up your PS2.

Also, you need to go to the Mad Catz web page for instructions on setting up GT3 for the Mad Catz pedals. It will probably be the same for GT4, but I noticed on the new MC boxes in the stores that they have a GT4-compatible sticker on them...)

OOOOWWW..........I was talking more like 6 games for an average of 30 euro's each (don't know how much dollar that is) because the games I'm talking about are games I still see in some shops for 49,- euro(some of them). They're really linear games like: Mafia, Medal of Honor Rising Sun, Medal of Honor Frontline, XIII, GT Prologue (I've got it on my memory card, now the game is really boring I think), The Sum of All Fears.

And could you explain why the hard drive and HDL, I really don't know a lot about those things?:dunce: Thanks

hey guys! this may be a bit off topic, but im thinkin about buyin a wheel setup (seat and all) and i was wondering, what is the best one to get and how much should i pay. ive already got my eye on one at a local import/burned games store in the Toronto area(not p-mall). any advice would be appreciated! :dopey:

its **** worth it. so far im a couple of tenths slower with the wheel but thats obvious since you have do more movement.

I was the driving the Ring with an R34 n1 on street tires (n3) and it sooo fun and difficult. YOU WILL SPIN OUT from hard breaking and turning simultaneously, from hitting the rumble strip at high speed, from colliding with other vehicles.

theres a Jump in the begining of the ring it took me 4 times to get through without crashing. the moment you land the wheel shakes left, right, left right......and bam opposite lock into the wall hahaha. with sport tires is still hard but you can get away with alot.

to all the players running these super fast lap times on the ring, try it with the DFP wheel (simulation setting, no assisted steering, max force, no power steering) and with a car on street tires.

countersteering is a B*TCH damn, ive only drifted like 2-4 times, you have to "catch" the car or else bye bye.

Actually, the physics aren't any different. It's just that you have a totally different feel, and the steering with the wheel isn't limited like it is with the DS2.

Buggy Boy: the power steering assist can be toggled on and off, and it just acts like power steering. It takes less effort to turn the wheel with it on.

that major jump on the nurb is the track's thesis, the introduction. You know what you are in store for once you do that jump :P I have had my wheel since it came out and I'm just happy I have one, all I need is gt4. I hear you can feel the weight transfer through the wheel, how does it feel?

DAMN I want that wheel just as much as I want GT4, especially cause i've heard you then can do DONUTS!!!! Now that's cool if you've lapped the second car twice and do a donut just before you finish

Check out this page here for a list of possible options...1 HAS GOT TO BE in your price range! :sly:

There have been a lot of positive comments about the DFP. However, I would like to know how it compares to the regular Logitech Driving Force wheel that came out with GT3?

I already have the older DF and don’t know if it is worth the money to upgrade it to the new DFP? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

force feed back wise, it feels the same like the previous wheel. But the 900 degrees makes it worth the purchase.

Yes the weight transfer is felt through steering. when you break hard and steer the wheel gets very light and you can feel oversteer being induced.

Other than 900 degree turn and a shift stick... is there any other *major* difference between the DFP and the old DF wheel?

Is the force feedback implemented any differently? How about the power of the feedback? Is there any difference?

Its been a while since i used the old wheel, but really thinking about it, yes the force feed back is stronger and it just feels better overall.

Damn that RUF 86 porsche is difficult to drive at the ring. i keep spinning out on S2 tires!! damn all that rear weight gets thrown around and i cant counter fast enough to save it.

Out of all the wheels I've tried over the last year & 1/2 or so, (just three total so far) the Logitech Driving Force, Driving Force Pro & MadCatz Universal wheel, I’ve enjoyed the DFP the most!

Why? Easy!
1. When I used the Logitech Driving Force, I didn’t like having the game buttons actually ON the wheel where I would normally have my hands!
2. When using the MadCatz wheel, I didn’t like using the lap restraints & there would be no way to securely mount the wheel to my racing sim considering they only give you some pathetic suction cups on the bottom of the wheel to ‘mount’ it!
3. The MadCatz wheel seemed to be just way to 'free feeling' for me most of the time! Meaning, if you turned the wheel in any direction & let go, it almost snapped back to center, which I just could not get used to & it seemed un-natural.

I will admit that I did like the MadCatz wheel for a time but not for racing GT3!
It worked pretty good in Pro Race Driver…that was until I made a slight modification to the wheel to make the ‘shifter’ a bit more stiffer to shift and then it really was fun to use, but as you mentioned, always having to re-calibrate the deadzone was a pain the arse! ;)

But when the DFP came out, I knew that was the wheel to have!
(NOTE: I never had all three (3) wheels at the same time)

I actually think that only ONE wheel could have competed with the DFP & that was the MOMO Force Wheel (Red One) but since that wheel can only be found used on eBay & it's probably NOT going to work w/GT4, though it did work w/GT3, the DFP has no current competition..at least in my book that is!

As for the ‘noises’, I never had a problem but then again, I tend to concentrate on the game itself & not what funny or weird noises, if any, my controller is making!

Can anyone comment on the difference between GT3 & GT4 when playing with the DFP on 900* mode? I realize the GT3 software doesn't support 900* and the wheel's probably just dumbing your 900* movent down to 200*. I hope actual 900* support makes for a noticable improvement in GT4, because in GT3 it's kind of underwhelming. I love GT3 in 200*, will I be blown away by GT4 in 900*?

Well, in NFSU2 (I know...its an arcade game...) when correcting a turn, you can feel the tension let up as the weight settles. I was playing GT3 with the wheel, but now that I found out NFSU2 supports 900 degree, I've switched over. Better to get used to 900 than 200, I think. I actually hated NFSU2 for a while, but its fun again with the DFP. FWD's are more tiring on tight courses too, as I soon found out with a stock Sentra. :ouch:
