He's [surprisingly] the guy who developed the area I live in. Big time real estate guy, I suppose.
The whole interior of the house is filled with 20+ vintage motorcycles.
It's also rumoured that he has a 911 GT1. [He also three hummer h2's, not in the picture, all loaded with accesories, dubs, chrome, etc, a black, yellow, and lime green one, he also has a white escalade, and a steel grey Murcielago not pictured]

There are also major variants of the E34 M5. The car came out in Europe and US in 1998 with roughly equivalent specs - 3.5L straight six with 315bhp and 5-speed box. In 1991, Europe got an extra 300cc and an extra gear. In 1992, the US got the larger engine but still the five cogs. U.S. only got the six-speed car in 1995, and in fact Doug, this should qualify this car for the rarity award, since it only sold in 3.8L 6spd form for one year. Also, continental Europe got an M5 touring from 1992-1995 all with 3.8L 6spd. They never made a right-hooker Touring.

This makes it one of only two M-cars to have a major upgrade during its lifespan. The other being the E36 M3. This started out in life in Europe with the single-VANOS 3L straight six with 286bhp (US only got 240bhp) and 5 speeds. It later got an upgrade to a 3.2L double-VANOS straight six, with 320bhp, an increased rev limit, 6 speed box and enhanced fuel economy. Memorably, this later car was reviewed in a UK newspaper under the headline "Leaner Meaner Beemer Screamer".

You're absolutely right. I can't really understand why I typed "1998". Brain fade of some sort.

The 3.8 6spd car represented a significant development in engine, gearbox and suspension, being the first to use the "Nurburgring" suspension pack.

Without checking myself, I can bet that if you check AutoTrader and look for 1988-1995 M5s, you will only find cars made from 1991 to 1993, and all will have a 315hp 3.6L 6-cyl.

Interesting. The US only ever got a 5-speed manual in the M Roadster and Coupe: no automatic, no 6-speed.

The US was never offered a 1995 M5. I think GilesGuthrie was refering to a sport package known as "M-Sport" for the 540i that had a six speed manual and the European M5 suspension, but retained the 540i's V8 engine. There were only about 200 of these 540i M-Sport made. These cars were not called or badged as M5s though.

No - but I ran it once and received a score of 12.558 - relatively poor, but I'm not experienced with launches, and it was running a full tank of gas. I'm hoping I can get mid-11s out of it.

And the most interesting thing I've seen go down the drag strip was a series of mini-choppers.

Really? I see them all the time over here in the UK, and having grown up with landrovers, i loathe them. Then again, i see where you're getting at - i saw a ford taurus over here the other day, and i couldn't believe my eyes

Ford didnt sell Taurus in the UK? I see Taurus's fairly often.

Ford did sell the Taurus in Australia? News to me, since I've read detailed accounts of the engineering process, and it was geared solely towards the US and Canada.

Initially, Ford models sold outside the US were essentially versions of those sold on the home market, but later on there were vast differences between those sold in the US and those sold in Europe. The divergence in product tastes is such that European models like the Ford Mondeo have fared poorly in the US, while US models such as the Ford Taurus have fared poorly in Japan and Australia, even produced in right hand drive. The small European model Ka, a hit in its home market, did not catch on in Japan, as it was not available as an automatic. The Mondeo was dropped by Ford Australia, because the segment of the market in which it competes had been in steady decline, with buyers preferring the larger local model, the Falcon. The Focus has been one exception, which has sold strongly on both sides of the Atlantic, despite its European design.

I saw a example of this a few months ago when I was visiting Australia. Ford of Australia sells a very nice "full sized" Australian-made car called the Falcon Futura. This car is well equipped and has rear wheel drive. Several people I spoke with felt it was one of the better values on the market. While I was there Ford had recently introduced the (U.S.-made) Taurus as an import at a price significantly higher than the Falcon. I read several reviews of the car in newspapers and spoke with owners of the Falcon about the Taurus. The basic reaction was "Why should I pay more for the same sized car, with so-so performance and about the same set of features?" I pointed out that the Taurus has front-wheel drive and "advanced" styling. Their reaction was that they could see no advantage in front-wheel drive since they never see snow. Any internal space advantage provided by front-wheel drive was considered trivial since the Falcon was already considered to be a very roomy car (which it indeed is). The styling did not meet with much approval. The general feeling was that no one would buy a Taurus in Australia unless they did so just to be "different"--yet standing out from the crowd is something Australians dislike a great deal.

Interesting. It's actually especially odd because the original Taurus was such a hit here, you'd think that's the one they'd send overseas, about twenty years ago. Instead they wait until they've basically destroyed the car through a series of poor redesigns. Meh.
 
It appears to be parked too close to a stop sign. It's also missing a front license plate. Cool perhaps. Illegal, certainly.
