So, I made it to the Elite series. Managed to get the final promotion spot in 3rd for Professional and now going to focus on Group A cars. My weapon of choice? No other than the Lancia Delta HF Integrale which drives magnificently.

Indeed it does, one of my favorites so far.

That feel when you win a rallycross final after being slowest off the line, running right off the road on the first lap and without actually overtaking anyone on-track. I'm like a master strategist. :p

Also was my first race with wet weather, the replay looked absolutely stunning (playing with graphics setting turned up to ultra), not quite as beautiful as Driveclub but pretty close. Makes spending so much money on a gaming computer feel so worth it.

Kept hearing that the RWD Group B cars are hard to drive. Pshhh, how hard can they be I thought to myself just before losing control in my Lancia 037 and slamming into a rock. I couldn't even make it to the first time split with all 4 wheels on.

On a better note, I made it into the top tier of one of the daily challenges and I was so proud of myself. I celebrated with buying a Lancia 037!

Been playing it today, not enjoying it because I'm crap at it, I rage quit twice....

One thing to bear in mind, compared to most other racing games I (and I imagine quite a few people) have played, is that it isn't 1st or bust. initially I did restart a few times due to pushing too hard, but I've found it to be much more enjoyable when I'm more focused on keeping all 4 wheels on the road. Getting 1st is just a bonus. :)

I have finished first and lead a rally very briefly, other times its been 2nd 3rd or 4th, I'm about halfway through Clubman rally, retired from Sweden after I slammed my Sierra in to a tree....not on purpose!

This.
Finished 2nd yesterday in Monte Carlo, only 1 second from first. I drove the last stage in "full attack" mode but finished the stage 2nd 0.5s from first, altough I couldn't have gone any faster. Even after losing the rally, that last stage did put a giant smile on my face :)

This could help people who are struggling with understand pacenotes.

This goes for left as-well.

Very helpful article from Codemasters. -> http://blog.codemasters.com/dirt/04/co-driver-calls-explained/

Also,

Basic Pacenotes
Left/Right 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6:

1 = really tight corner
6 = almost straight

Square = 90 degrees, like a square

There can be + or - after the direction as well. + means it's a little straighter and - means it's a little tighter.

If you hear "hairpin" it's basically like a 180 degree corner. It looks like a hairpin, hence the name.

Open hairpin is like a bigger hairpin idk

Other ♥♥♥♥ you may need:

Tightens = corner gets even tighter and maybe you'll hear something like "tightens 2" after a right 3, which means it tightens into a right 2.

Opens = opposite of tightens but you'll probably never hear a number after opens

Numbers that don't come after left/right = distance of how long the corner is/how long it is between the corners. ex. Right 6 100 Right 3 means take a right 6, go 100m/yards (doesn't really matter it's a rough estimate) then take a right 3.

Caution = what the ♥♥♥♥ do you think

Care = same thing as caution but less of a hazard or w/e

Crest = The road goes up so you can't see what's up ahead

Up/down = Road goes up/down

It's also one of those odd games where slower = faster. Each off is such a larger penalty that you're far better off finishing a stage 30 seconds slower than going off 2-3 times and wasting more than 30 seconds because you were pushing 5-10 mph more than you needed to.

When we race online, I have a buddy who (on a perfect run) is easily 10-20 seconds faster than me on most stages. However, I keep my car in 10x better condition, and he frequently crashes out of rallies completely. There's a bit of turtle vs. hare for this game.

As we say in shooting...you can't miss fast enough to make it up.

Yes and a game where I have now found myself looking at the leader board during career rallies and looking how far I am ahead of say guy in 3rd and how far ahead guy in 1st is and if by pushing far to hard to catch guy in 1st accepting just to drive within limits to retain 2nd.
I do just find myself muttering to myself how fantastic this game is constantly, playing it, watching replays and my latest thing is the awesome feeling of how every time you land a jump you can feel exactly which wheel lands first, you can land on front left wheel then feel as the front right and then the rears land.... amazing. Also that feeling you get when you really nail a hairpin.

There's issues of course but at no point could i ever say this was flawed genius like a recent racing game was. I think DiRT rally proves over reaching yourself isn't as brilliant way of doing things as some would have you believe... concentrating on core parts and not hyping or talking BS and then just letting the game do the talking is the way to go... could Codemasters of all people (they pretty much invented micro transactions IIRC) actually of changed the landscape in gaming?

Competed in a Rally-cross semi yesterday (in the Mini), jumped the start slightly and had to do an extra joker because of it, also cut a corner a bit too much (said the stewards were going to investigate, but nothing came of it), and I still managed to clinch 2nd place. :lol:

Absolutely loving this game so far, it's highly addictive.

I got this game yesterday, and must say I am really impressed, the physics is just beautyful, even with a controller. Was a little worried it whould be too hard with DS4 after so many said it was so unforgiven, well it is, but it feels so natural and when chrash, its me who read the notes wrong or simply being too confident.

I have a feeling my wife will not be so happy now, she will need too work really hard too get my attention the next weeks :lol:

If you back out of the throttle, they usually let it slide. But just be careful - three strikes nets you an instant disqualification, even if they're questionable. Sometimes it's uncertain as to exactly where the limit it, especially around the Höljes clubman circuit.

Dammit,i lost out on the Clubman championship by 1 point!

Started the Pro championship in the Renault 5 Turbo in greece...found it very tough,finished in 5th. Wales should be interesting hehe.

I said on another thread that this game has given me moments in a gaming context that have been incredible and the like I've not had since way back in the days when I first played games like Geoff Crammond F1 on amiga and Driver on PS1 and ToCA games and obviously original Colin McRae game.

Yes theres been awesome games but those ones I was younger I was new to gaming and they sort of just inspired me so much and had memories i'll always remember, yes and I know never to return as they won't of aged well. But they were games that didn't spoon feed a fake narrative, you weren't told that your some hot shot who will criss cross the globe racing for random teams in random series, you just let your imagination run wild yourself, no one held your hand and told you how to play it, or give you some silly plot devise... it trusted you, you were just a gamer, you could make your own game up they just gave you tools to do it....heck I used to create back stories myself as a kid to the drivers in Amiga F1 game or the Cycles by accolade on amiga. Does Scooter Foxx mean anything to anyone else?
This game reminds me of that time, even PCars has elements of modern gaming that grate, the odd career tree thats disjointed and flawed (why can't i just race one type of car over several tracks and seasons???!!) why give me silly sponsor deals which don't show up on my car or seemingly offer anything but a small narrative?

DiRT takes me back.. I almost at the age of 39 and with 2 kids of my own now, find myself wanting to do a back story to the top drivers in career.... nuts!!

Wow, just wow, yes its all got more pretty, more flash, more story driven (for people without imaginations..wasn't that the point of gaming? To have an imagination before flash graphics), but gaming lost a lot on the way here to this point.. its lost...well its soul? In many ways it has, certainly driving games anyway. Its all "do this to unlock this" come 1st, ALWAYS come first, "hey you like that car? Well your finished driving that now for one race now your driving this one.."

I'm rambling.... sorry.... anyway.. hmmm what was i meant to be doing, oh yes..working...

Tried to do the monthly challenge and ruined it on the 3rd stage. Those trees come out of nowhere sometimes. I don't think I am patient enough for this game (years of playing games with a rewind feature), but I still love it.

After being so disappointed with FM6 using a wheel, I'm really impressed with Dirt Rally. Really love how challenging it is and the FFB is pretty amazing. IMO this is the best rally game to date. Even convinced me to order a Playseat Evolution along with the gearshift holder pro to up the immersion.

Really?

I like the Impreza
I have the Lancer. Very disappointed, because my dad used to rally Lancers in the 1970s. The Evo X feels like it won't slow down in time, and I need to brake about twenty metres earlier than I normally would.

Not a Forza player anymore, but a good seat makes a massive difference. I've got the Playseat Challenge with a shifter (and button box for PCars) mounted on it and it allows the wheel to be really used.

I drove the Lancer in a league event and didn't like it as much as the Subaru (which features a lot in my latest youtube compilation attempt).

What's the trick to a good start in Rallycross (specifically the 1600 class at the moment)? It seems that no matter what I do, the AI get a much better launch off the line than me. I'm using launch control, which is apparently slower, I did try without but as far as I could tell there was no difference. I've also tried revving at various different ranges and not revving at all. It's getting to the stage that it's a deciding factor in most of my races.

Maybe starting in 2nd gear helps.
