DiRT Rally Thread

Gladly hopefully the drama queens will be doing the same.

I find the term 'drama queen' extremely sexist BTW and also it's YOU who is being moderated for openly bragging about driving dangerously with a young child on board. So please don' think for a second you have some high ground, I'll back off as a mod is dealing with it now.
Worrying about who people share the roads with isn't being a 'drama queen', far from it.

You would find it sexist  I would tell you to man up but youd likely take offence to that as well you poor soul.

Well done btw for ruining are good thread.

Rally hero or not, the fact remains that Colin McRae actually did kill his young son, as well as himself and two other people, when he crashed his helicopter while flying without a valid pilot's license.

Yep. Definitely not a "hero". A young man who made a bad mistake. Shame.

OK made it to Masters, so big decision in a gaming context.......... what car to use?

So far used the Mini, Lancia and then the E30, love the E30 and i'm tempted to stick with it but can't make up my mind. Any tips? Considering how long this one will be I want to be in car I'm really happy to drive.

It depends which category you want to run in.
  • For the 1960s, take the Alpine A110.
  • For the 1970s, the Escort Mk. II Cortina.
  • Avoid the 1980s, but if you have your heart set on it, go for the Renault 5.
  • For the RWD Group B cars, the Opel Manta.
  • For the 4WD Group B cars, the Ford RS200 or Lancia Delta S4.
  • For the 1990s, the Subaru Impreza or Lancia Delta Integrale.
  • For the 2000s, the 2007 Ford Focus or Subaru Impreza.
  • For the 2010s, the Fiesta or Polo Rally.
For the other categories, anything works.

Going to go 2010's in the polo.
I like the Fiesta, if only because there's a nice array of liveries. There's only one for the Polo, two for the Hyundai, and while there is some variety for the Mini, it's the worst car in the game.

Finally, we’ve also been investigating your concerns and comments about the weak FFB on certain Thrustmaster wheels. It’s still something we’re looking at, but the difference between the T300 and other Thrustmaster wheels is that the FFB is perfectly linear, with the intention of providing more realistic vehicle handling. In the first instance, we’ve been suggesting look at the settings that Thrustmaster have recommended – and some players have also found that reverting to PS3 mode, then re-enabling PS4 mode, will solve the issue.

Now, on to the fun stuff – you may notice that the patch doesn’t just bring fixes, but some additions to the content on DiRT Rally… We’ll discuss these in closer detail in tomorrow’s Road Book – but to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, we’ve added the following content:

  • Art – We’ve updated Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the event, complete with official PPIHC logos and branding.
  • Game – We’ve updated the handling on the Hill Climb cars so that you can really attack the iconic Hill Climb course.

The latest patch made the game completely unplayable for me. It screwed up the wheel/vibration settings, half of the wheel options is even greyed out. I'm using a T300 and luckely I'm not the only one it seems with this problem :grumpy:

They have made some changes to the physics on hillclimb, not a big difference, but really like it so far, only tried tarmac, but it feels more natural IMO.

On the PS4, yes?

Yip , latest ps4 patch did no good. Shifter don't work with clutch , ffb settings is greyed out. Soft lock stays off. Wheel rotation stays at 1080....

the change in performance/times at Pikes Peak is a little disappointing in a way.
i feel they should have made it harder to get those low times, rather than easier.
but the cars do feel better.

feels like the change is maybe primarily aero, and seems to have more noticeable effect on the upper mountain.
the cars definitely have more grip, and might seem to feel the aero drag limiting at full speed.

i hopped on this morning, and accidentally set a new personal best on a 'warm-up' run, though it was not feeling very PB.
if i hadn't looked at the timer, i never would have felt it might be that quick a run.

i do like the dramatic improvement in feel of the 208 ... i can feel it, now :)

i like the way all the cars 'feel' now, the driving is much improved,
and this is far more important than the overly generous clock.

also, a little thing that makes me very happy ... the accurate to real life, PPIHC covers on the hay bales
it may be trivial to some, but it's big to me
(and it probably took a lot more effort on the phone, than in the art dept.,
but well deserved, Codies. you did the mountain right, and PPIHC must respect that)

with official practice and quali starting next week, the timing on this sprucing up couldn't be better

*PS4/Fanatec -> zero technical issues with this patch so far :)

The Peugeot 208 is miles better now. I absolutely love it, whereas I previously despised it. I'm currently comfortably sitting in the top 10. I couldn't even finish a run with it before. Seriously.

yes, before it clearly wasn't working right because you could slide it. The aero package and slicks on that car are probably even more extreme than the Le Mans prototype it used to be before they converted it, so it should be glued to the road.

I was looking forward to this patch and having time this weekend to actually play.. I have a T300 and ps4. After what I read here and on reddit, I should not even bother. :(

Is the FFB on PC messed up too? I finally bought DR last weekend (40% off on Steam yay), but haven't had time to download it. Wondering if I should download this weekend or just save my internet quota while waiting for a fix.

More than anything, I'm glad tarmac Pikes Peak physics is a lot better now 👍

I only did the daily and a run with the Loeb Peugeot up Tarmac Pikes Peak, and I'm not 100% certain. There seemed slightly excessive SAT compared to the other FFB aspects, but I haven't played for a few weeks, and have little experience with either car, so it is probably me misremembering.

If you're not sure then it's probably a small difference. Looking at the posts above the console difference seems to massive as everyone is complaining, so I think the problem is only limited to consoles now.
