DLC worth the wait?

Is it really? Considering the games that are coming out and the games that are already out... I've had motorstorm apocolypse on my mind for the longest time, and dirt 3. Then NHL12 is coming out in september along with F1 2011, thats about a good $210 easy after taxes, but that somewhat $210+ can go to all the DLC that PD is comfortable with releasing... Please help ?!

I really don't understand the question. Apart from a gamers (or at least a PS3 owner's favorite four word; is it worth it?), you really didn't ask anything.

Platinum means sales have fizzled very low, and a price drop comes to encourage those still waiting to pick it up for cheaper.
It's publicity and cheaper pricing in one quick move. You can notice this game sold enough copies for a "Platinum" status in pre-orders.

Here's what's going to happen to you, you won't like it, but it's un-avoidable.

You will keep spare money for GT5 DLC.
You will get frustrated waiting.
You will spend some, but not all of your extra money on other games/things.
You will continue to be frustrated waiting.
You will spend some more money on other games, still keeping enough for new DLC.
You will now pre-determine the minimum amount you need saved for emergency DLC arrival.
You will spend everything aside from that pre-determined amount.
Something will crop up that you will need to spend your saved DLC money, but you won't be worried, because there will still be no inclination of DLC coming.
You will build your DLC savings back up, and continue waiting.
You will die of old age, leaving thousands of dollars in DLC savings alone to loved ones.
GT6 will come out, with DLC instantly available.
Your loved ones will not buy or play GT6 at all, because FM 52 will be better.

"Fizzled"? This is the first time I've ever seen a game that's sold well over SIX MILLION COPIES being referred to as "fizzled". A Platinum or Greatest Hits package means that the game has sold enough where they've made their money back, and now they can afford to sell it at a lower price point when sales start to slide a bit.

I really don't understand your point. Are you trying to downplay the game's success?

Little more than bug updates? We are given content for free. Just because it isn't cars and tracks, doesn't mean we aren't getting any extra content.

Yep, that'll be why gt5 is the second best selling ps3 game world wide, behind black ops. Because every game goes bestseller, just like every book as well I guess...

And where I work, I sell at least 7 new copies a week, and considering our price is at least $10 more than the competition.

Huh what have we gotten?

A PP system that was supposed to be in the game at launch? (prologue had it)

Remote racing? (LOL!)

Being able to win helmets and suits? (who cares.......)

The ONLY meaningful addition was seasonal events and they have been sporadic a lot of the time sometimes going a month without updating.

I mean look at the patch changes: http://www.mygranturismo.net/patchnotes.php

Just about everything added should have been in the game at launch. I mean we still don't even have the features listed on the back of the box. And this from a game that took just shy of six years to make?

A price drop = now i can get my third ps3 and 2 more copies of gt 5 for what the third ps3 would have cost last week ;)

What on earth has that got to do with the topic.

On topic.
Depends on content.
Depends on timescale.

Don't know either so unable to compute.

5.98 million sales in first 3 months.
0.44 million sales in last 6 months.

Fizzled -
To fail or end weakly, especially after a hopeful beginning.

Sorry for double post, please delete this.

The only thing we've gotten worth money is seasonal events and the online ucd. the latter would only be worth real money if the cars were free though.
I would find it far beyond ridiculous to pay money for cars already in the game.
Of course what online game doesn't have some type of online events for free?

What will be why?
Less than 14,000 last week, I wouldn't be assuming hugh jumps in GT5 sales anytime soon, unless they start giving it away like XBOX's.
http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly.php

In the past 24 weeks, (almost 6 months) it's sold a whopping 440,000 copies worldwide.
http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales/7678/gran-turismo-5/
6.42 million now total.

Are we talking special multiplayer events, or just matchmaking and race etc? Because apart from gt5, the only other game that I own in my collection of 14 is the online world cup feature in FIFA world cup. Every other game is match make and play.

And just because a game isn't selling in massive numbers, it doesn't mean that the game community isn't growing. Maybe one should check the definition of grow before posting such nonsense.

I was asking if it was worth waiting for dlc or just spend the rest of my money on games that are already released and that are yet to be released

I would keep a small amount to the side for DLC, and not expect it anytime soon. More of a "just in case" fund.

Nonsense is assuming a specific game community can grow with decreasing sales.
The only ways it would even be possible are A: People quit early and are for some magical reason, starting to play more all of a sudden in synchronization, or B: Almost nobody has quit playing GT5 that bought it, and the amount that have quit must be less than current sales.

Game store shelves tell us the first isn't the case, and game store shelves also tell us the latter isn't the case. Amount of online lobbies also tell us neither is the case.
You're free to believe it's a magical community that can grow without anyone new buying/playing, but it's just not possible.

Haha ya I seen your humerous reply earliar, thanks for the laugh. Haha you watch, by the time im fed up with waiting for DLC and after I've bought everything, DLC is going to be the first thing that pops up under the "whats new" badge in the XMB screen...

The PP system wasnt inplace at launch for GT5P, it was part of the Spec II update. Just because The previous game had it, doesnt mean that every consecutive game will.

Remote racing is a great feature for those who dont have the time to sit down and play hours on end before reaching the big bucks (Ive gotten 20mil+ from them and am up to level 37, and Ive only fully completed the begginer series in b spec)

The Helmets and Suits are a nice touch I thought, while not nesessary, sitlll a nice touch nonetheless.

I actually think that everything was worth adding in there own little way, and are starting to give the game a more complete feel. And just because the feature was added during an update, it does not mean that it should of been included from launch.

Im not saying that everyone that bought a copy still has theirs, I know this. However, in saying that, from looking at the preowned stock my local four stores that do trade ins on games have, I cant see too many people trading in their copies (I can count the amount of preowned copies between fours stores using 2 hands, maybe 3 at some points). Im sure plenty of people have stopped playing GT5 for various reasons, but I doubt the amount that have quit outstrip the amount that are new. Hence growth.

Lets say a game sells 1 million copies in its first week. After another 51 weeks, its only sold a million more, and 750k have been traded in. That is still growth, while a declining growth, its a growth none the less. They dont all have to be playing at the same time, but the average of players who played (assuming they all played at least once that week) during that 52nd week is still 250k more than those who played first week (again, assuming all those who owned a copy played it at least once). Growth. And the same thing may be said for GT5. Even if 400k stopped playing after those first 3 months, the 440k that did purchase a copy and play equal 40k more players (assuming that 5.58 mil still played 9 months in, and the 440k still played as well). That is still a growth in the player base, although marginal.

The irony is it technically won't be PD's fault, just the irony of life.
I do figure we have all had a good chance to learn PD's approximate time-table by now though.

Remote racing is claimed inside the packaging. So I ask again, how exactly is remote racing an "update"?

You're right, being written as content in the product package/pamphlet does mean it should have been included from launch.

Ok, so you're basing a worldwide opinion over what you see in 3 game stores?

So you're actually trying to estimate how many people out of 6.42 million stopped playing a game in the past 6 months?

If I'm generous, I would estimate over 50% of people stop playing a game within 9 months of release.
If I'm honest, I estimate 80-90%. The better portion of GT5 players don't leave it in their PS3 until GT6 comes out, that's a very, very, small percentage.

But if we're both honest, we have really no idea, do we? I'm pretty sure working at Gamestop does not make anyone an expert on how many people continue to play a game close to a year after it's release. (Hint, I have GT5P, and yet, I haven't played it in 2 years almost.) Many of us don't trade in games, because stores that "trade" don't pay squat. I'd sell them myself first, plenty of resources nowadays to get more than $15 for a month old game.

For me personally I agree about the classic tracks, That would be DLC I would definitely purchase.

I would gladly pay for 'new' tracks that have never been in the game before,
but not for tracks that had been included in GT1-GT4 and were removed with the intent of selling them as DLC.

I like GT5 as it is right now but a DLC would make me :).

I personally don't care for "original" courses in general, even though I loved El Capitan, making home made tracks seems like the cheap easy way of half-assing.
But I guess they did make "original" cars too. Even if they are good cars, if the game had as high a percentage of "original" cars as tracks I probably never would have started playing it.

Remote racing is claimed inside the packaging. So I ask again, how exactly is remote racing an "update"?

The packaging really must be different between America and Australia, because every thing claimed inside and outside the packaging that my little disc of fun came in claims nothing that wasnt present in the game at launch.

And again, maybe the American market dont enjoy GT as much as Australians do, Ill never know. I wasnt basing what the world market for GT5 is like going on the stock levels of a few local stores, I was merely stating an observation of my local area. I then said that I wouldve thought that the amount of people who have stopped playing the game dont outnumber thos that have started playing it. I then stated very rough figures and Im 99.99% sure am wrong about, which is why I said may. I honestly thought that having bolded that wouldve drawn you attention to that to realise that it was merely a thought and observation, not fact.

Over 50% may have stopped playing the game and left it dormant in their PS3 game collections, but 80-90%? Really? So using the 80% figure, only 1.284 people are left playing GT5 worldwide? Thats a bit of a rediculous figure, but one we may never know if it is real or not. No one knows, bar the staff at PD and Sony. And sure, you may not have played GT5P for two years, but again, that may or may not be the case for the majority (I for one own and still play six games relased 2008 or earlier, and they have all been played within the last two months: GT5P, Colin McRae Dirt, Racedriver Grid, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, GTA4 and COD Modern Warfare), but certainly dont trade in games.

The brand "original" is quite inaccurate in this issue... "fake" should be used because this is supposed to be a sim as you should know.

Just because a game/sim uses its own unique courses that do not exist in real life, does not make it any less or more of a sim.

Yes but they are still fake because they are not real, use a dictionary for further reference.

"Fake" would imply it's trying to give the impression of being something it's not, like all that Chinese stuff on the market stalls. That only really applies to Côte d'Azur, as far as I know, but even then it closely resembles older configurations of the intended / referenced circuit.

"Original" implies original thought, where we might better say "fantasy". There aren't many pure fantasy circuits in GT5, most are now based on real locations where an actual circuit does not or could not exist.

I see nothing wrong with the fantasy circuits in Gran Turismo, or in any other "sim". Some of them are cracking, and would be (/ are) missed.

I think PD has missed the boat on the DLC. I think am a bit of a die hard for this game but it has too little to offer and I have moved on. With so many big games coming out this fall (MW3) anyone the DLC will have to be outstanding to bring people back or keep them.

That being said I will wait, buy the DLC and try it out but if it's another Gear patch I think I am done with GT5.

Oh well there is always the long wait for GT6.

I'd imagine that all of the patches are in preparation for the DLC. Sure, they could have delayed (further) the release about 3-4 more months to clear up all of the problems. But, then any smart salesman (who wants to make a profit) will wait until a major sale point... that next one would be around September (to which we haven't even hit yet!)... that'd create another 3-4 month additional wait. How many of you (including me) were so thoroughly angry at the delayed release? Some of the glitching and things that we poke holes in are as a result of us wanting something "now" for instant gratification. Now we want more "now". How about we all be patient for good content. If you want "never before used" tracks at the PD level (Spa for example), you'll need to wait. I'd love Spa. I'd also love the addition of significant championships (10+ races) worth big cash, and cool new cars that cannot be purchased. In that scenario, you'd buy the DLC pack to add a championship, and by doing so you've effectively purchased a car, but you need to win it. An expanded F1 type championship (using any F1 car but at a central PP level), an expanded NASCAR, DTM, JGTC, WRC, and LeMans series would be awesome. I'd hope mid-race saves would be added too--- that doesn't need to be DLC. In a nutshell... I'll be patient and it sure as He!! will be worth the wait.

The packaging really must be different between America and Australia, because every thing claimed inside and outside the packaging that my little disc of fun came in claims nothing that wasnt present in the game at launch.

Look on the back of the case in the top right

IT claims GT5 has:

Leader boards and Matchmaking

Which it clearly does not even 9 months later.

Also in the manual on page 12 it tells you how to start a matchmaking race. Would be a useful bit of information if it was actually in the game. It also says you earn rewards from racing online..... which was also not in the game at launch.

Also on page 12 it tells us that we can go online to the GT5 official website and race our B spec drivers. A feature everyone knows was not in the game until months after release but never the less it is featured in the manual form launch.

Why are you telling me this? I'm not the one who labeled them "original".
And in any case, they are original, like it or not.

Curious. What's your reference?
Are you even aware of what you quoted to ask that question?

I know it's a thought and opinion, I'm saying I think you should put more thought into it, in my opinion.
Check leader boards, online lobbies, etc - To me, there's nowhere near enough entrants on the leaderboards, or people opening lobbies for there to be 3 million active game players, especially given Sony's estimate that 80% of PS3 owners have internet access.

Over 50% may have stopped playing the game and left it dormant in their PS3 game collections, but 80-90%? Really? So using the 80% figure, only 1.284 people are left playing GT5 worldwide? Correction: We will never know. No if's and's or but's about it.
But to me, 1.284 million people still regularly playing GT5 means GT5 was a success.

Anyway, none of this has to do with DLC, I've said my take on that, so I bid this thread adieu.

Yes but they are still fake because they are not real, use a dictionary for further reference.

I'll just use the below quote to answer...

"Fake" would imply it's trying to give the impression of being something it's not, like all that Chinese stuff on the market stalls. That only really applies to Côte d'Azur, as far as I know, but even then it closely resembles older configurations of the intended / referenced circuit.

Ill repeat this just for you, because you clearly didnt get it the first time: The packaging really must be different between America and Australia, because every thing claimed inside and outside the packaging that my little disc of fun came in claims nothing that wasnt present in the game at launch. What that implies is that what may have been adverstised on the packaging for your version of GT5, wasnt advertised on mine.

As we have both said, we will probably never know the answer to the numbers game, and all we can do in the meantime is speculate based on evidence witnessed by ourselves, which is all we have been doing. The game has been a commericial sucess anyway you look at it, regardless of the amount of players still playing now.

Now, on topic. I am personally not caring whether or not DLC is released; I dont need it, I am fine with what I have. That being said I will most definately be buying it should it ever be released.

If they were going to release some DLC they would've done so already.. we're coming up on the 1 year mark quickly people and all we have to show for it is a Gillette camaro.

woot.

Can they not just get a load of classic tracks, add some high(ish)-res textures, let us download them, then use the new tracks in seasonal events.

I wish... :indiff:

If you didn't label them what did you doing now? :dunce: And it not about whether i like it or not, rather about what is the most accurate adjective in this case. (And it is not about what you like either so come off it.)

But fake isnt the adjective, it really is original. Fake would be basing the design on another track, but changing a few features to make it that little bit different. As far as I am aware, there isnt anything like the "original" tracks throught the world.

And seriously, stop bashing on anyone who has an opinion any different to yours, its all youve been doing on any thread you have posted on.
