Its a but tricky when you start the race with fuel and tyre depletion then it will count .

if not then no .

simple as possible .

Fuel and tyre wear are irrelevant, Bluntfield had it right though. Race mileage is counted but free run is not, regardless of degredation status.

Race mileage is counted ONLY if you finnish the race, If you pull out mid race you will not log any miles.

^ Yes, it does count to break in.

Currenly racing in a stock GT300 championship on sports soft tyres (all participants started with 0 mile brand new cars and are restricted to using them ONLY on race day) and the pp ratings of the competing cars rose for races 1 and 2. Now in the later races pp ratings are remaining consistent and go down as would be expected before an oil change.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but miles accumulated online does not affect the engine break-in, right?

Yes they do count but I'm not sure they do to the same level, I found out a while ago that some cars I only used online whilst still breaking them in took more mileage to reach the peak power than cars I broke in offline (instead of after roughly 300 km or 180 miles it took another 40/50 or so km to reach).
Not sure that's been changed since several updates though.

Mileage seems only to be gathered in races (not sure if tyre wear and fuel consumption plays a role, apparantly it does) but sometimes it doesn't due to glitches or whatever, even if you did finish the race.
Changing into another car after a race also seems to influence it sometimes (when the game starts to autosave the progress).
In short, yes accumulated online mileage does count most times, doesn't always have the same effect and shouldn't be considered a certainty until it shows.

Online miles will only count if tire wear is on and you complete the race within the end race time delay.

"Tip"
Use the X Track for running cars in put fuel and tyres on .

Around 200miles - 300miles will run the car in just right

To break in my cars I start a endurance race in b-spec when I go to sleep, when I wake up its all broken in. I wouldn't spend 1 more minute driving around the Route X.. I do have a life..

You accumulate mileage whenever you are driving in Course Editor, Practice Mode, A-spec, B-spec, taking part in Seasonal Events, and competing in an Online Race. Only when using practice mode and CE, do mileage not reset to values were prior to entering the track upon exit. But in all modes it is possible not to gain mileage.

It's just in practice and course editor, that if you restart the session and then promptly quit, that your prior mileage will remain the same.

You may gain a 1 or 2 hp in Free Run, but never any mileage.

👍 What he said ^^

The Laguna Seca Endurance is 200miles & should be enough to fully break in any car

You don't get credits or experience from doing 1-make races in Practice Mode.
BUT, it WILL put miles on your car.

Only if you finnish the race.

This is not necessarily true.
The other day I was recycling my UCD by going into Aspec Beginners Sunday Cup Autumn Ring Mini Race and starting race, exiting... Starting race. 5 times.
I was never in the race for more than a couple of seconds, certainly no more than a second after the START.
I did it when I happened to be in a 0 miles car.
When I finished doing that, I had .3 miles mileage on the car.

I have not, however, had any experience with checking mileage after not finishing an online race.

My answer reffered to the OP, who's question was about ONLINE mileage, try sticking to the relevant question. 👍:)

The op doesn't mention arcade mode, which everyone is side tracking about. Topic is "online milage".

The title of the OP's thread is "Do online miles count?" There is no online Arcade Mode.

Online practice/free run doesn't add mileage to your car, however it adds mileage to your overall distance.
Online races do add mileage to your car.

You will only accumulate mileage on your vehicle if tire wear is on and you complete the race within the end race time delay.

I was just trying to clarify in order to prevent misinformation because people were NOT being specific about what they were talking about.
Excuse me for trying to provide useful information & specifics.
