When you get one of those put together yourself cabinets or even when you get a new video game, do you ever read the manual?

Depends what it is. Video games no, software no. Cabinets and furniture I will have a little glance over them (but if it's IKEA, i will just end up more confused)

Usually don't, unless I get bored and need something to do.

Lol same, I read/look over them when Im bored.

I tend to read it just for something to read, but not untill the job is done or the game has been played.

So the 3 Aussies just read them when they're bored, lmao, coincidence? I think not!

Sign me up for rarely. I agree with DQuaN. Games or software - no. My new lawnmower - yes. I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to screw anything up.

well, with me it simple, as i have to get the bus home from the game store, i read the manuals on the bus :D

Furniture yes, games, I play first then when going to the crapper ( which is usually reserved for Car and Driver only ) , I'll take the manual with me just to make sure I am not missing something vital !

I always end up reading a manual for a game at some point. But for Ikea furniture, always.

Am I the only person on the planet who has not once been confused by instructions from Ikea? And I've put together quite a few things from them.

I like reading the manuals in games because it shows you stuff you didnt know about before.

I read almost all manuals i get so i can make the most of that product.

Occasionaly, I read some manuals for different things, I don't read every furniture manual, I rarely read game manuals I don't read manuals on installing hardware or for electonics.

I usually read the manual for games... and expensive stuff.
For example, I hooked up a new computer at my dad's house today and didn't even glance at the manuals, but when I rented Enthusia last week, I read most of it.
I will only read a furniture manual if I get confused/screw up.

I always read the manual for furniture - makes the build process much easier if you envision it in your head first.

For other things, I usually use the product first, then read the manual. That way I can skim-read it to find out the hints and tips.

Depends. For most electronics, I can figure them out myself, so I just skim the manual for any not-so-obvious things.

I like reading car manuals though, even though they're horribly obnoxious with their big yellow-background warning thingies. I've read the Subaru's and Tacoma's manuals all the way through (incidentally, even though the Ranger is mine, I haven't bothered to read the manual, except once when I had to jump-start the battery).

I hardly ever read the manual when i would get a game or w/e. I usually read it when im completed w/ the entire game for some reason cuz prolly im bored.

I never read them. Unless i get completely stuck. I read the manuals on furniture and things with thousands of wires

When I got GT4 I didn't read the manual, and wondered how to change view (used to play GT2, tried that button), read the manual and discovered it was SELECT. Since then, I use a button conf. as simliar to GT2 as possible.

When it comes to pre-assembled furniture, I always read the manual. There's so many weird parts that look alike, but really aren't.

As for video games; it more fun to try it first, and then read the manual. I did read the GT4 manual first though (I was waiting for a pizza at the pizzeria a few doors down), although it was next to meaningless in content, it was whetting my appetite to the point of drooling.

Cars: A little later after owning it, and I always learn something. The Corolla's got a section showing you how to replace and change many things on the car, so I've learned a lot from the owner's manual. I've done more work/maintenance to it on my own than any car I've owned before.

As for my industry; I can tell you about 1 in 100 actually read the darn thing. These are mostly people who have PhDs and other university degrees, and yet they can't be bothered to read one damn book every 36 months pertaining to their new $50,000 automobile. So when one of them actually makes reference to it, I want to hug them...you don't know how many trival problems can be remedied by just using the index!
