Just wanted to gauge the community's opinion on this. Now that it's been ~9 months since GT5 has been released and we've gotten a pretty good look at how it's progressed, do you still support PD?

I for one don't. I would list out all the reasons for which I don't but that will take pages and pages. Let's just say it has something to do with lack of communication, lack of DLC, lack of listening to the fans, and their usual "go into hiding" mode where they seem like disappear for months at a time.

They really need more communication. A blog or something.
I wish it had more cars I want, I wish it had more tracks...but it's still the game I like most even in the shape it's in.
We paid 40 for Prologue with less than 100 cars and about 5 tracks. 60 bucks for over double the premium cars and a ton more tracks isn't too bad.
So...yes I'll get any future GT5 DLC or GT whatever

Before release, people were mad because it was taking too long to get gt5 out (i as well). PD told us before they even released gt5 that it wasnt completely finished and updates would be needed. Most were happy about that now that they would get to play, at least most of the game. Now many people are complaining because its not perfect. seems like an error on the consumers part here. PD did what everyone has wanted including like 8 or 9 updates (I think)...so ya, Ill back PD up still. Stuff takes time, I understand. Especially with all the chaotic things going on in japan....I dont blame them too much, even if i do what updates bad (cars, tracks, etc.)

Yes I support them. We only see this side of it, we don't know what kind of challenges they have, legal issues with licensing, staffing and budget issues they may have. And I imagine that some of the changes that people want are a bit more than a few lines of code and a click of a mouse. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they are doing everything they can to improve the game and create a mind blowing dlc package.

I've said this before; I'll say it again. Even with all the flaws it's still a pretty good game. Support what they're doing/done? This issue really has been beat to death. They've had to deal with the PSN outage. They've had to deal with the Tsunami and a nuclear disaster. They've had to relocate. Yeah, they've made a ton of mistakes, but they've also had a lot to deal with. Play the game if you're still playing and cut 'em a break.

Bull.

If PD didn't want the huge :censored:storm that comes from releasing an obviously unfinished game, than perhaps Kaz should have stopped saying unbelievably stupid crap before the game was released. Stuff like "the game is finished, we could release it tomorrow" and "we needed to delay the game in order to make sure it is perfect."

I think the reason behind these feelings that we all seem to have about the quality of PD's work on our beloved game, comes down to one fact. We can all see that GT5 has the capability to the best, most perfect car enthusiasts game ever, however, it seems that the formula just cannot be executed properly. You can tell it's not just right, but what to do to change it and how do they do it. The reason we are all talking about this is that it is just so close to being perfect but the formula is just not all there some how.

I didn't mean support them financially, I meant do you still agree with what they've done

since I have been playing GT5 pretty much none stop since release day then yeah......I very much agree with what they have done....what they have done is release a game that has given me countless hours of fun and enjoyment.

Bull.

It's funny how many people only quote the first half of what he said. The actual quote was.

when you talk about its status, it’s at a point we can release it any time we want, but we can always keep working on it

It's funny how many people only remember the first half of that.....

He was saying that it was at a point where they could release it........or they could keep polishing it and adding features for a long time to come.

Seems to me to be a perfect way to sum up what turned out to be the state of GT5.

So much irony.

For example, its even funnier how that doesn't change a damn thing; but the funniest part is that this was the next bit which you conveniently forgot:

It’s very important for us to make sure everything is done perfectly and everything is done in detail.
And the end result was to release a game so unfinished that you couldn't even adjust gear ratios until that was fixed with a patch (and when that was fixed, it wasn't fixed right, and we had to wait for another patch to fix them properly). Nearly a year later, and the game is still missing functionality listed on the game box.

So, again, in regards to the original statement about how its the consumer's fault for having misinformed expectations, perhaps those expectations wouldn't have been misinformed if Kaz had kept his mouth shut. Because when you spend a year talking up how flawless a game is going to be because of all that QA work you are putting into it, you kinda deserve the backlash you get when you release the game and the list of stuff that works perfectly is barely any longer than the list of stuff that is broken.

I agree with both of you. Kaz did make many verbal mistakes prior to its release. It was hyped up so much there really wasnt any game that could have lived up to it. But, at the same time...gt5 could very easily be considered a "complete" game if Kaz hadnt said otherwise. We have the "unfinished" thoughts imbedded in our heads and that what we see. Personally, finished or not, gt5 is still leaps and bounds better than any other racing game out there....especially speaking as a SIM. Gt5, or even the entire gt series, is THE game/games to have. For the people who disagree and/or cannot respect the effort and work, go ahead and trade the game in on NFS or something...im sure the small % of you will go unnoticed.

And two things for Toronado, i did actually read somewhere where he did state that updates would be needed. I apologize that it wasnt an exact quote. Second, you should probably take a more respectful route of starting a discussion other than "BULL".

BATTLEFIELD 3 is coming. They'll have time to come up with something cool ;).
I support PD. They only need to add some DLC, soon. For this year. That's what we need

Much of this being rushed I believe was because of the pressure from SONY to release the game...school me if Im wrong. But, again, yes he should have kept it a little more quiet

I can already tell that this is going to be one of those threads where most of the people get mad at Toronado and then Toronado proceeds to completely obliterate any silly argument that they have.

Well I do agree on some of what he/she says as Ive stated. Everyone has their own thought and their right to have them as well. People dont get mad at what people post necessarily, its the way that they serve their thoughts that catch fans the wrong way. Basic conversational skills and general respect is the only thing that is needed.

I still support PD in every way.

And boy, if you critise the lack of DLC and Patches, than you've never played Test Drive Unlimited :D

This. I do think that he just wanted a game for the fans in any state possible after 4 years of development and 5 years of waiting. Still...could have been worse. They didn't know the full potential of the PS3 from the start of development and they've left out what many expected. I still trust them either way, they still made a good game. GT1 is still their best though :trouble:

I support them, sure the game isnt perfect but it's good enough for me. Seasonal are kinda awesome if you think of it. Totally free also. Not like frigging Dragon Age or other racing game where you have to buy stuff after.

That the game isn't perfect - sure.

But that's the problem with the PlayStation 3, meaning Internet - Connection.
The PS One and PS2 had no Internet - Connection and so PD had no chance to patch this afterwards, so it had to be bugfree.

And PS3 has Internet - Connection, and so you can patch it afterwards. And that is actually the source of all bugs and stuff. They gave us a Half - finished product and patched the bugs out in patches.

Up in the air.
There's a lot of things on the table yet, things I want, but someone else has to deliver more than GT5 before I can consider jumping ship. We can talk FM4 all we want, but we've no idea what it'll end up being until it's released.
GT5 looked unbeatable before it's release, then let down many of my expectations, and I don't expect FM4 to be perfect either.

I do think they've spent a lot of money and time on features the bulk of users don't care about in the smallest amount, while neglecting obvious holes in the game that have continued to be there for years, it's pretty much in PD's hands right now. They still have the opportunity to keep GT at the top, but senseless things must take the sideline and PD focus on important things for the game, and it's future.
With the right direction, GT5 could already be the undisputable champion in my book, but again, senseless, petty things unimportant to me have taken over.
I do not care about horns, uniforms, driver pictures, new bugs replacing old bugs, or even photomode. Even if all these things took 2 days to create and implement, it sets a bad example for the companies direction to me.
I understand there are people browsing that love everything I mention that I don't care about, but these are my two cents.

Of course continued updates, seasonals, bonus money and xp, along with the online UCD are great, and credit must go where credit is due, these are the main reason I still have hope.

But alas, just imagine for a second, you were playing GT5 without internet access for these updates, and had to play GT5 in it's original form. I should know, I got the first update and didn't have internet until the beginning of March, guess what? I quit playing before the end of December.

Hi Guys,
I will support PD. We are not just fan that will defend the game and praise everything good when there is GT5 in it. In Fact there are flaws we also point out so that perhaps PD will always improve it. The updates are great so far and especially seasonal race. Really fun like many bros here said it. I think PD had already done their best to provide support and updates. GT5 is almost the only game i played since NOV10 till now and still enjoying it on trusty G27 wheel.

Now.. I find this thread will even be more interesting in OCT when Forza4 release. I feel if it is true that FORZA4 can nail the graphic and even create better driving physics than GT5, be it just marginally better.. Then more people will be upset that PD really took too long a time to attain what GT5 now is, compare to Forza4. Reading the Forza4 section here makes me more and more impressed with Forza by the days...

Tornado is right; PD shouldnt have hyped their game for 6 years. No wonder Sony would put pressure on them to finally release the game before it would loose all its financial business value. The labour and developement costs would exceed the profits of sales..

One reason why I dont take all the promises Kaz made for granted: GT fanbase is one fantatical fanbase with their heads in the ground.. Someone put it very nicely in another thread; if its not PS3 its not worthy, if its not GT its not a sim, If its not Sony; its crap..

So for the topic: No i dont support PD anymore. 3 years before GT5 came out I was so appoald (spelling?) by them scamming us with a prologue version again, that i decided i would not buy GT5. But as the years went on and the hype got bigger; there was no denying GT5 anymore. Anyone who loves racegames could not let GT5 pass unplayed.. How dissapointed we all have been....

Maybe they'll have me fooled again in 6 years time, but at the moment, im very glad i can soon slip back into that warm bath that i call the FM series..

Very well put.

It is just too bad you can only play FM4 on the most unreliable system ever made. Ive been thinking of picking up a $100 refurb from Gamestop for when FM4 comes out...I might wait till I see reviews. I think it will be crazy in these forums when it does....

Yeah but when Tornado does it at least he provides proof from where he gets it and just doesn't try to go straight from memory. I'm on the fence with my PD support. I play the game cause of racing series on GTP, and because I paid $110 for the collectors edition of a over hyped game that need much improvement, but with the Tsunami and earthquake earlier this year I've cut them slack.
