Well, that looks pretty damn good. The official debut is in about a month in Chicago, but this pretty much looks like a production car ready to go. Slotted rotors add to the "sportyness" on the SRT model (thats whats pictured), but as we all know, its the R/T that will matter the most.

I do hope they make an ACR version, eventually. I'd love to see that go up against the FR500GT (and FR350GT?) that Ford has rolling around on racetracks...

Oh hell yes. They got rid of that infernal crosshair. (hint, hint.. try it on the Charger)

WANT.

Just doesn't do it for me. It is way too generic. They made it retro enough, but not nearly special enough the way the current Mustang is when compared to its original. There is no visual strength and boldness at all.

Well, I don't doubt we'll see a Formula D version, which I'd hope Chrysler would sell the parts to.

I'm still hoping this isn't Chrysler's Avanti.

Yep. That's Michigan. Awesome white stuff on the side of the road and gross white stuff on the road.

That said, I like it. I'm really looking forward to seeing it in person. Photos like this never seem to do a car justice.

Is it just me, or does the contrasting colors of the lower plastic and spoilers seem just awesome? This one would have looked really bad-ass with the black stripes on the hood or down the side, but I'm sure Dodge went without for a reason...

I demand to see the debut car in PlumCrazy Purple!

Oh my god, epic fail! Look at the rear end on that thing; it's hideous. I can't believe they let that much hang off like that.

It is. Designers do that so the car looks thinner, and therefore lower to the ground. It works very well on this car because the sides are so tall. If it was all body color (which owners with no aesthetic taste whatsoever will undoubtedly do) the car would look as thick as Star Jones and very heavy and ungainly. Just that little bit of blacked-out plastic makes all the difference.

European companies did that for the longest time (especially Audi, think Doug's A4) but they've all moved onto monochromatic schemes. That's one reason the new cars with high hoods look so massive. Japanese companies also did it for a long time. Personally, I think almost every car would look lower and lighter with black areas along the bottom like this.

w00t?

We're about a month or so away from the car being "officially released," which means that next-month's car magazines should have tests to see how good it is. One hopes this one lives up to the hype...

Man, are you guys hard to please. "Epic fail"? Please. You have no idea how much energy and willpower is brought into effect to bring cars like these to market.

The only thing wrong with it is a slightly clumsy rear light in comparison to the concept - a practicality issue brought about by legal requirement that OEMs have to abide by. The aftermarket boys will soon polish that up with some LED loveliness. The rest of the car is the concept, give or take a door shut line.

A friend has one on order here in the UK. I'm waiting for the Camaro, personally, but the front end of this is nearly making me wish I'd put Freddie down on it. :D

But Corporation Blue was a Plymouth Color...

Except Plymouth's dead. Still...it's not really the Challenger's color, at least not without some Granatelli Red on there.

Remember, Cerberus owns them now... Chrysler doesn't have a "history" any longer...

Didn't Petty drive a Charger:odd:? (well, the Plymouth verson.

He did drive a Charger from '72-'77, I think, but by then the car also had STP stripes on it. Before that, they were Road Runners...and a Ford Torino in '69...

It's still not the Challenger's color.

Yes, epic fail to my eyes. The whole shape is ugly. It would've been awesome just by a subtle shape change. The only people who are going to buy this are mopar fanboys. Anyone else would buy either a mustang or camaro.

I'd buy it and I am not even a big Mopar fan (and definitely not a fanboy), especially these days with crappy products like the Nitro and Sebring. I actually find the Challenger quite attractive, just as much if not more so than the new Camaro. The Mustang looks nice enough, but it has a few... technical issues. Anyway I have found more people to agree with the Challenger's styling than to disagree with it, and I am talking about non Mopar fans, let alone fanboys.

Everything's awsome up until the rear...those tail lights are putrid. :yuck: Put it in red or plum crazy and it will look sweet...except for those tail lights.

I dunno. I think the taillights are a marked improvement over the silly things the concept had. They still need to be separated more, though.

IMO, It's brilliant, and I love it. The taillights are kinda ugly, but the car could have turned out uglier.. *Points at a Toyota Lot, the R35, and The Ford Mustang*

Too bad, really, because the taillights are the only view of that car anyone will get. :dopey:

Errrr, unless they are in a new Camaro or next gen Mustang.

If I wanted a Challenger that looked like an old one I would just skip all this crap and just buy the old one. It would be about the same price as well.

Oh, sure, you show the smallblock...but you don't show the prices of one of the big blocks or the Hemi models...

I rather like the car myself...I'm just worried that it'll end up being This to Chrysler...

One last great hurrah.

One last great hurrah.

I just looked up Challenger on classic auto trader, and I wouldn't really care what engine it had...I personally think old muscle cars are rather unexciting.

I personally think old muscle cars are rather unexciting.

And you live in Michigan???

Personally speaking, I think they're some of the most-exciting vehicles this country ever produced, but that being said, I can certainly appreciate the European cars of the era as well. My brother is more into muscle cars than I am, I have a pretty distinct preference to having breaks and the ability to turn right or left, but I can certainly appreciate the big Torinos, Chevelles and Roadrunners...

One last great hurrah.

Don't forget Packard's last hurrah, the Hawk, that had a supercharger and was banned from Nascar.

I'm hoping that Cerberus won't run Chrysler into the groud or sell it to the Chinese..

The Hawk was a Studebaker in disguise, though, but, yeah, I'm hoping they can pull Chrylser off the ground.

And you live in Michigan???

That trip to England corrupted him.....

I was never really excited by muscle cars. I like the Camaros, Mustangs and Corvettes and 'Cudas, but the idea of shoving a big V8 into a car that can't and never will be able to turn just isn't appealing. I like the German and Japanese idea of sports car much better. But then again, I grew up in Prius loving Seattle so I'm pretty much corrupted for life.
