I was just wondering, as it seems i am the only one amongst my friends who even touches car magazines, if anyone else in these forums reads them.
So do you? I personally, am subscribed to Auto Express i find it great.
Anyone else?

I read evo. I'm subscribed to it at the moment. I usually read Autocar for the very latest info and sometimes Top Gear. I've gone off Top Gear Magazine a bit because half of it I don't read; I read nearly all of evo.

I quite like the comments in in topgear. Autocar, for example, tells it to you straight, whereas top gear sounds like jeremy clarkson has written the whole thing:sly: .

Half the time i never bother reading the review, i just look at the pics and specs, unless it's topgear, in which case, i read most of the reviews.
 
I read the complete Sport Auto, a german tradition car magazine with it's famous Super Test on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in every issue... best German car magazine...

Looks good, i think weekly test on the Nürburgring Nordschleife are in the dreams of most magazines.
Looks like i'll have to wait till gt4 for driving on there.
By the way, do they publish lap times by any chance?
 
I read auto week and every once in a while I find a top gear from acroos the atlantic. I like the layout and photography of top gear and it is pretty funny, but auto week seems to give it straighter. If you really want new info on cars, you can find most of it online quicker.
 
Sport Auto looks good. I was suscribing to Automobile, Hot Rod, Off-Road and usually buy a lot of Sport Compact Car, DuPont Registry, Car and Driver, and European Car. I like reading performance specs but reading the reviews are very insightful in Car and Driver. I don't pick up too many mags anymore. :guilty:

The mag is published once a month.
For years the lap times were not compared to all cars, only to similar ones. They just started to change that a bit, so the lap times exist but as far as I know not all together in a list or so... Part of the supertest was the fastest lap time they could drive on a grand prix track ( Hockenheim) and on the Norschleife; there is always a detailed description of the speed and the g's etc at certain key points of it like "Karussel" or "Hatzenbach" etc...
The 10 page ( sometimes more, sometimes less) Supertest features all kind of cars from Mini Cooper S and Civic type R over Sti and Evo to Porsche 911 GT3 and M3 Csl to finally Porsche Carrera Gt & Co.
Sport Auto takes part in the 24 h Race of Nürburgring, makes events like " sports car of the year" on Essen Motor Show, is the inventor of the Sport Auto drift challenge ( 4 years ago Kobayashi won in a Jun Evo V with 550 hp won it with a great drift....)

Sport Auto journalists hold the Nürburgring Nordschleife fastest lap on a street car record for years, sometimes somebody is faster ( for a short time), actually Sport Auto's Carrera GT fastest lap was beaten by a Düchting Donkervoort I think....

Great magazine !!! It covers F1, Rally regullary, JGTC, Nascar, GT all over the world sometimes and everything about today's true sports cars....
 
Evo, used to be topgear but I just don't seem to be interested in it aslong as I am in Evo.

I find reading a mag better than reading it off the net, don't know why.
 
I don't actually subscribe to any mags but I do buy every issue of Evo and every issue of Speed. And get a free copy of every NZ Performance Car.

I also sometimes buy a Motor mag to keep up with local normal car news (and espescially the Bang for you Bucks and PCOTY issues).
 
A while ago I bought an issue of all the major ones (here), Motor Trend, Car & Driver, Road & Track. They were all pretty boring with only one or two interesting articles each. I found some of the general news interesting, but all the full length car reviews were quite dull.
I skim the car section of the local paper every week, it's always awfull.
Around the same time I was trying out all the major names, I got an issue of Sport Compact Car as well ('cause it had a list of the best 200 sports compacts and my car was number 30 or something). It has a reputation as something ricers read, but I found it was much more focused on real performance, not just looking fast. It was also quite funny in many places and overall a good read. If I subscribed to a car magazine, it would be SCC.
For news and reviews of new cars I read AutoZine, I haven't seen anything else that compares. I even read reviews of cars I don't care about, just because it's so well written. I know Mark is biased, but I know his biases and I can form my own opinion accordingly. With major publications, I'm always wondering what's actually good about the car and what they've hyped up to please the sponsors (or what's really bad and what they've downplayed).
If I want to hear about how much NASCAR sucks and how everyone running the industry is an idiot, I head over to AutoExtremist.com. I think they're pretty full of themselves, and they never really have anything new to say, but I still check back every week to see if they've put up something worth my time.
 
I get Car and Driver for my normal car magazine. I usally just browse through some of the articles.

But I also get Truckin, Mini Truckin, Sport Truck, and Street Truck. On these I read them cover to cover.

But trust me, DuPont is extremely more expensive comparing its 1 year subscription to R&Ts.
 
I'll read them if I'm interested in what they're saying. Or if I'm travelling. I can read evo in a couple of domestic flights.
 
I buy evo pretty often and am currently taking advantage of an offer on Auto Express and Test Drive. I wouldn't normally get the last two but they were £1 for 6 and 3 issues respectively. I find evo to be very well written with excellent photography and that the majority of the articles are of interest to me.
 
I subscribe to Evo and occasionally buy Autocar if there is something of interest in it. Evo consistently has top quality photography/articles
 
Evo is by far the best Auto magazine on the market, worldwide, I've read mags from different countries. I don't subscribe to any mags but have acess to most of them at ork to read over lunch breaks or when theres no much to do. I read TopGear too and Autocar and Autoexpress. But as I said, Evo is the king of car mag.
 
I love the photography the most. I know I won't be buying a Ferrari soon, and I don't care which new compact economy sedan is good, so show me the works. A Peugeot 205, an old Spitfire, a Porsche, anything. Just don't bore me with the stats.

I tend not to put too much faith in "mainstream" car magazines (Car & Driver, Road & Track, Motor Trend etc.) as these publications' revenue is based mostly on the advertisements within each issue (including the cars they test). There is a conflict of interest as a result. Their reviews tend to be biased in my opinion.

I read automotive publications such as ConsumerGuide etc. because there reviews tend to be much more objective. If I do read a "mainstream" car magazine it is mostly for entertainment.

That's how i started my subscription. Once every so often i used to read auto express, and one day i saw the offer for six issues for a pound and thought, hmm, why not, and i never decided to end it. 75p an issue isn't bad anyway.
