OK, I'll snap off a handful of pictures of the Scarlet Macaw (in flight as well) and PM you some links. I'd post them here, but hi-res images linked here would kill my site with bandwidth.

Saturday?

AO

Yeah, Saturday will be fine.

We have raccoons. :)

Those are two of the younger ones – we have about 9, last time I counted. We also have a half dozen foxes (it's much harder to get a good picture of them though, because they're incredibly timid) and two skunks. During the day we have twenty six bajillion quail and a dozen rabbits.

You can't count nature as your pet just because you feed it.

"I went to the zoo last week and now I have a pet elephant."

MMMmmhhhmmmmm .... right.

That's like saying you can't count a plant as a pet!?

I have 2 guinea pigs, but I think the flash would scare the bajeebas out of them.

The plant is contained. It relies on you to provide for it. Animals in nature are merely using you.

Don't the brids relly on you in winter?

I could put my guinea pigs out in the run for weeks and just give the water.

And I know people who just leave their guinea pigs out in teh garden with just the lawn to feed on and a small pond.

Then I would say they are wild animals living in their backyard, much like the birds, squirels, and mice. Just because you also feed them does not make them "pets".

heres 2 of me cat, :O nawww

Oh, come on – when they pose like that for you, they are so pets! :D And anyway, their mom has been coming by our place for the past 5 or 6 years.

Those two are my favorite though – they're really cute (both of them like to play with my feet for some reason). Here's another pic, with one of them trying to steal my camera:

Sorry to ask, but can you have those kind of birds? It looks as a brazilian bird, called "Arara Vermelha", and it´s an endangered species. These birds are from Amazonia, and usually leaves Brazil illegally.

Or am I wrong? I know you work with animals, so I probably am, but thought of asking anyway.

You are correct (mostly). The Greenwing Macaw (the top one) is on the international Cites II list as an endangered species. The Scalet Macaw is on the Cites I list as an endangered species.

In the United states, it is illegal to import either of these birds. It is not illegal to breed and raise these birds. Neo (the Greenwing) was born in Flordia and raised in Northampton Massachusetts. Red (the Scarlet) was born in Flordia, and raised in St. Albans, Vermont.

In fact, its illegal (and has been for well over 12 years) to import any bird species at all into the United States. That covers Cockatoos, Budgies, macaws and otherwise.

Der Alta - Your birds are cute... :) and so is your cat

Thanks,

I guess I have to update my web page, as Mr. Hobbs succumbed to the Feline Lukemia, June 16th last year. It was a very hard thing to suffer through.

We found two new knuckleheads that want to try and fill his big shoes.

So, I can assume you would rather have pets than kids, DA? :D
:D You have no idea... :D Exactly. No kids for me.

JP, My wife loves those pictures. She knew right from the picture what kind of cat they are.

Cool.

So Der Alta, do your pets actually get along well? You know having beautiful birds like that and cute cats?

hehe, they get along really well. The Cats have figured out that that saltwater tastes horrible, and the birds tails are attached to rather large beaks.

The kitten was batting at the Scarlets tail and the Scarlet whipped around snapping his beak close within inches of the kittens face. I've never seen an animal vanish into thin air, but that kitten moved so fast getting out of the room, I swear he did vanish. Took him 3 days before he'd venture into the Macaw room.

The cats are very wary of the birds. When ever the cats are in the bird room, they tend to keep one eye on the birds. :D

We've not had an "incident" tween the cats and the birds. The instant we do, though....

Those are very good pictures there, not many people can take them that well. What were you using? (i.e. camera)

Incidentally AO, my wife would love to see more of Remi and Kulpa…

you guys have some really cool pets, i was looking at sloths but someone said it was illegal to own one. we used to have chickens but a fox kept eating them so my dad got tired and let them into the wild, i think the fox finished all of them.

Finally another dog owner! That makes three, or four of us? I never thought cats would be this popular. My old dog Wilbur used to eat them. (No, he only killed them, if he caught them)

I have a golden retriever, I'm away at school so I don't have any pics, other than the two I took with her just before we had to put her down. She developed leukemia, from the time the vet noticed until we put her down was about 9 days. :(

I love that new avatar Solid.

Hahaha lol your avatar is great Solid Lifters 👍

Heh, thanks. You liked the one previous, also! My Capt. Scuttle. For my new avatar, I wanted to use the .gif below, but it was too big.
