Just the thought of driving round Tsukuba for 4 hours, let alone 9, makes my head go numb! I've never done an A-Spec enduro in GT5, & really don't think I ever would, it sounds totally & utterly joyless.

My question is this, does anyone actually enjoy doing them?

Back when I was still doing A-Spec I liked them, much more than the shorter races. Fuel, tyrewear, different lengths of stints between opponents and generally the longer duration can add a lot to the fun. So does driving through the darkness of the night in the 24h races, desperately longing for the light to come back.

But as usually with GT, you have to make a wise car choice to have fun. For endurances races this is much more important.

I have to admit though, I never bothered to do Tsukuba. And today I'm racing online only, there is no joy in "battling" (or driving around?) the AI, no matter what distance.

Me too, but from the beginning. I only out myself through enough A-Spec to get going with winning cars & money. I just don't get the appeal of A-Spec enduros at all.

I enjoy them...for the first 30 minutes. The AI is too underpowered to make things super interesting.

I like them especially the 4 hour at Nurburgring using interior view 👍 The AI is unimportant when you're having fun :)

If you like to make enduros as difficult as I do, yes.

Yes. They are to easy, if you take more or less the same cars as the AI. I instead take slower car, have a friend by my side, and the long night is soon enough short :)
P.S. Just got lvl.40, so tonight starts 24h "Ring". Any car suggestions?

I don't mind the ones that take an hour or two, but anything longer than that can be a real pain in the ass. I really don't enjoy having to focus on the task of driving for hours on end. It's like taking a long car trip, except you keep seeing the same things over and over and over again. I'll even give a 4-hour enduro a go because I can break it up into two-hour blocks, but that's about the limit.

Long races are typically a lot better than short ones. However, since GT5 has online, I have no reason to do A-Spec races.

Love them, I get sick and tired of 3-5 lap so called "races". 5 laps is barely a good warm up. Like most things in GT5, if you find them too easy simply choose a lower rated car to make them competitive.

I'll probably do the 4 hour Nürburgring, soon... I enjoy endurances.

Well i've done endurance races in gran turismo since the first gran turismo came out but, I really dont like the extremely long endurance races like the 9 or 24 hr races. Only have three more endurance races to do for a-spec and thats the last three on the bottom row. I have about 7 more endurance races for b-spec though. I'm at level 39 so 1 more endurance race and I'll hopefully become a 40.

I loved all except 1000 KM Suzuka. :sly:

Yeah, I disliked the Suzuka 1000km to begin with, but with the right Japanese GT reduced in power and with the chance of rain to spice things up, I've grown to really like it. Its just long enough to do in one sitting (6-7Hrs).

The Le Mans 24hr is my fave - the long straights allow plenty of thinking/switching-off time.

Great thread:tup:

Honestly, no. I was looking forward to them because there is more strategy involved, but the AI ruined/ruins the whole experience.

It takes a lot of effort to pick a car that doesn't either totally suck for the race, or totally stomps the competition. I wanted to have a challenge with the shorter Nurburgring enduro, so I took some time to pick a car and power limit it to the point where it was competitive.

I ran some practice laps at different power levels to see how it would go. I found a level that if I drove well, I could catch up and pass the leader. If I drove poorly, he was right there to pass me. It looked like I had found the magic car and the magic power level for it. This took me about 3 hours to test, by the way.

However, I was in second working my way back up and out of nowhere the third place car slammed into me at full force. I think the AI just didn't brake because of a glitch(?) or something. It was clearly a braking area at a turn. Anyway, I'm entering a turn and bam! I get nailed and pushed and spun off the road.

I get back on and drive well to catch up, only to find that, even though my lap times are consistent and good, matching or even beating my previous ones, I am falling farther behind on each lap. Even though I was ahead for quite lot of the time before this. Even though I wasn't even seeing the guy behind me when I was in the lead before. Even though I could keep up with and catch him if I did fall behind before. Suddenly, he's gaining about 10 seconds per lap on me when I'm driving well enough that I should have been able to catch up again, not fall further behind.

Why? My best guess, and I wish I would have saved the replay, is that the AI cars must have been sliding off the road during my tests and first part of the actual race. After they had run me off the road and passed me, they stopped making mistakes. This is just a guess, since it doesn't really make sense.

I wanted an actual challenge. I wanted to have to drive well. I wanted to have to earn the win. I wanted to be punished for mistakes and be rewarded for good clean laps. Apparently, this was not to be.

Since I couldn't predict this random behavior, and since I didn't want to get hours and hours into a race, only to have the AI ruin all of my hard work, I turned the power limiter back to full and just lapped AI. I even ran a few of the 🤬 off the road out of spite for wasting my time.

To me there's no sense in these races. They just waste time and the AI sucks. Might as well just pick a car that you like and go. It's too much trouble to try to figure out how to play fair, and it's way too much trouble having to repeat an endurance because something unexpected happens.

I still have the last three enduros to go, and I'm going to drive the Red Bull. The hell with it. There's no way that I'm taking a chance on having to repeat races that take multiple days to complete. I'm doing them once and that's it.

These had the potential to be fun, but yeah, someone definitely dropped the ball.

Yup, between GT4 & 5 I must have done around 10 24hr races all told (not including GT5's B-Spec 24hr races) plus all the other ones. The only ones I dislike are the Tsukuba ones as the track is so painfully dull, makes me lose the will to live. Nurburgring 4hr is a personal favourite of mine. 👍

A-Spec endurance races are the only thing in A-Spec or B-Spec(including seasonal races) worth doing at all in my opinion. Everything else(at least since they patched the AI racing you out of A-Spec) is just an annoying chore to make money or experience or for completion. All of the time I spent attempting to have fun with the events leading up to them was completely wasted. I should've just put racing softs on an overpowered car to breeze through the other tiers and got to online racing quicker.

I've run all of the enduros at least twice (and lost all at least once) except the 9 and 24-hour races(which probably won't happen). Ok, I'm not sure if I actually finished Tsukuba-4 on my failed attempt, but I certainly drove in it more than 8 hours worth. The others excluding Indy I've run 4 or 5 times either attempting to win or re-doing for fun.

I enjoy them...for the first 30 minutes. The AI is too underpowered to make things super interesting.

That's pretty much how I feel about enduros.

it would be better if A.I. was fast and smart

IMO, it would have been nice if GT5 had more endurance races in the 2 to 4 hour range, at even more tracks.

Even some 1 hour races would be welcome. Or how about scaled races, like; Le Mans 2.4 hours with the time sped up to match? PD are not very imaginative when it comes to their events, I hope we get an event creator in GT6 plus better AI to make it useable.

Not really.

But nothing - nothing - beats an online enduro, with a good size grid and closely matched cars/opponents.

It's a shame there are so few who are willing to do them in this timezone...

It depends on the length, after a certain point it loses its charm and just becomes dull.

But certain lengths are great fun, thinking about my tyre management and fuel etc is exciting in it's own way, wondering whether I can risk another lap on my tyres without losing too much time :)

I spent over three hours on the edge of my seat running round N24, chasing tenths and hundreds, straining to perfect every corner chasing the guy 15+/- seconds down the road. It doesn't matter to me how long or short a race is, but it's gotta be hard-fought and fair, and close (though not necessarily close together, but close in sector times - as in, swinging between hundredths lap after lap after lap, waiting for the other guy to slip up).

Best fun I've ever had playing this game. Coming 2nd, a mere 7 seconds behind the winner - it felt like a win. Sadly, you just can't get this playing against the AI...

I enjoyed the ones in GT3 since most took just a few hours, for me it doesn't have to take any longer than 2 or 3 hours at maximum.
It's long enough to give you a great feel of the track in combination of your car.

However in GT5 those longer races feel like an absolute waste of time to me. I like the game and also like to do things "the realistic way" but doing a 24 hour race in a video game all by yourself is something even I have serious problems with.
Another problem I think is the reward, I don't need the credits since there are easier ways to get credits, and I already have all the cars. I would expect something that's a bit exclusive if you complete it.

I don't know about the longer ones but thank god for the suspend button. N'ring 4 hr seems like a good run, do it in 3 days. Having a good race with self inflicted pain, ran out of gas and lost 3 minutes limping to the pit, then seems to be AI rubber banding as lead car goes faster. The tire wear and fuel elements make for some tactical decisions on the fly. First time tried this one tires went full red half way round last lap and ended up second. Bottom line seems to be to stick with RH , you can't go fast enough with RS to offset the time lost in pits and shorter stint, 3 vs 5 laps.

I haven't bothered trying the 9 and 24 hrs even with suspend, can't do anything else until the race is over.

I'd prefer more longer races... an hour or so. The short sprint races are annoyingly short.

The longer enduros that are over 4 hours are very do-able with the suspend feature - even if it is a bit bodged -

The 24hour jobs require the driver to adapt a bit and be inventive.
But you can run stints for tyre conservation... or you can run "Maximum Attack" Mika style and pit every couple of laps. After 24 hours you should be doing both... driving really fast AND keeping the tyres intact for a long stint.

Best bit of the Nurburg 24 was of course the hefty lump of German XP - doubled by the Log IN bonus... but when you need to be level 40 to race... why did they give you XP?

Maybe some psychologist can answer why we drive around in circles.
