How do you feel about A-Spec enduros?

I still have to do the 24 hour races, the 9 hour race, and the 4 hour race at the Ring. I'm not motivated enough to even attempt them at this point. I wish the Daytona 500 was included instead of the 9 hour race.

na, they are too easy I usually have to use a car that goes as slow as the back bunch of cars. Unless I want to lap them 5-6 times.

An appropriate avatar for Le Mans Kwicko 👍

Thanks - I didn't even think of that! Steve didn't have to drive all 24 hours of the thing, though... :)

Night time is spectacular there, even down to the light-pollution and distant hillsides with farmhouse lights dotted across them.

Yup - the rain stopped long enough for me to enjoy the fireworks for a while, too.

I really hate them, they are boring and when I try to make things hard it still doesn't work.
I want to try them with a friend to see if that's better, as no driver does 24 hours by themselves without a break.

ha ha! this is a great thread great poll!!

I have several pals who do them. Both on GTPLanet - and otherwise PSN friends. I know because occasionally I've invited pals to race, and they've replied saying they were in the middle of an a-spec endurance!

My spouse has done a couple of the endurance aspec, but I haven't.
If I can get that much time on the ps3, it's certainly not going to be driving some car I don't care for with AIs! I'm going to be in a shuffle room or course creator or something!!! :D

I did all except the 2 24H races and the Tsukuba 9H some time ago and generally enjoyed them.

And I'm quite enjoying the Nurb 24H race so far - I finally decided to commit to going for 100% completion after recently getting the Platinum trophy and started the Nurb yesterday morning.

I'm 5.5 hours in and using a stock Orca Viper (c.600bhp/1,300kg vs 700bhp/1,000kg for the best AI cars). I'm using race hard tyres and I'm having a great battle with a Pescarolo LMP - he's slightly faster on average lap times but on a different pit strategy (I'm running 6 lap stints, he's on 5 laps). I could easily pull away by switching to race softs and running faster laps/shorter stints, but the Viper is lovely to drive on race hards, particularly towards the end of a stint when the grip starts to slowly bleed away.

The trick to enjoying them is to find a car you really enjoy driving that's not massively faster than the fastest AI car... then get your mind in the right place to run consistent lap times and avoid crashing... in other words, maintain your concentration levels.

If you pick a car that's too fast you'll just get bored.

I'm not particularly looking forward to the Tsukuba 9H though... so I'll leave that one until last and I'll then have the added motivation of knowing I only need to complete that one race to get 100%.

I really don't get the enjoyment of sitting on a couch (or any other place) and do a race longer then 2 hours.

Yes, I know their is a save feature but you can't go to Arcade mode or coarse maker when you've saved the race unlike GT4 when you can do Arcade mode in the middle of a Series.

I wish you could use your B-spec drivers from time-to-time.

I always enjoy doing theses kinda race only if there with my friends.

I enjoy the 'medium-length' (2-4hr or so) races when the course is interesting, such as the Nurb' 4-hr. The longer ones take a little bit more effort to make fun due to poor AI or dull courses w/o weather or time changes (Tsukuba, Suzuka)

I've wanted to do another enduro with the Spoon FIT now that I got it, but not sure where I could fit it competitively, have fun and not get bored.

It'd be nice if they're were more variety in each track throughout the race, like changes in the crowds, race surface (dirt/dust), actual driver changes (with a friend or trained AI).

Actually, all of that should be possible on the PS4 from what they keep bragging :p, lol

Hell just give us the 25 hours of Thunderhill, I'd enjoy that.

I'm just past the 19-hour mark on LeMans now, and I've just parked the car and set a timer for 3 hours. I'm 64 laps ahead of second place, so in a few hours I'll check the game just to make sure, and run a few more laps if need be to finish out the 24.

On the plus side, I now feel like I kind of have a handle on the X2011. A clean lap that takes more than 3:05 feels like a slow, leisurely cruise.

They are too uninteresting because of the AI. I like racing when you actually have to be clever when you are driving. In these races you can take the sloppiest line ever and still win because of the AI's slow driving.

What happened to the good days of GT3 where no endurance race was much more than 2 hours?

I'm fine with doing either:
A) 2 hour endurance races by myself.
B) Up to 24 hour races as long as I can trade off with B-Spec
C)Anything up to about 8 hours as long as there's weather (and I wish that included day-night so the race would be more dynamic, even if it was just sunrise to sunset.)

Other than that, they get boring. 9 hours of Tsukuba with no changes in the daylight or weather is a bit boring. And the 24 hour races are just too long for me on my own.

If if were me, you'd have 3 types of enduros:
1. 2 hour basic endurances; No weather or day/night, by myself.
2. 6-9 hour advanced endurances; Weather and day-dusk time change, by myself.
3. 24 hour expert endurances; Weather, 24 hour cycle, ability to hand off to B-spec.

But I'm not at PD so that all means nothing.

Still the two 24h races to do.

Did the grand valley one at least ten times
The 4h ring is also a lot of fun, did that a few times

👍

My 24H Nurburgring got a lot more interesting this afternoon... I'd put it on pause overnight during a pit stop and somehow I managed to un-pause it whilst setting my wheel up this morning and I didn't notice... when I did notice I'd dropped 2.5 minutes and slipped back to 5th.

Completed the stint on race hards (as I was half way through the stop when I'd paused it), still 2.25 minutes behind 1st and still in 5th place, then switched to race mediums for 5 laps and then race softs for 2 stints of 4 laps each... driving the doors off the car in the dark (whilst still trying not to slide the car too much and wreck the tyres) to catch back up.

Took me 19 laps of 100% flat out driving (1st time I've driven the Ring in the dark) to pull the time back, and I'm still a few seconds behind 1st.

Not exactly how I'd planned it, but having to change strategy on the fly mid race was interesting - working out how much fuel to take on board to minimise weight and not run out for example.

The Viper is still lovely to drive >50 laps in.

They aren't if you choose a car that doesn't over power the opposition... I'm having to drive the Viper properly to stay in contention.

You mean you like to do online multiplayer endurances... But that's not the same as Aspec Enduros is it now?
 :sly:

BIG difference!!!!

I used the GT300 Lexus in the Nürburgring 4 hour, it was exciting at first but 2 hours in to it, I got ahead by a 2 minutes (the A.I were using the Amuse S2000 GT1 Turbo and the Audi R8 LMS).

On the lap # endurance races like 60 lap Grand Valley, 90 lap Leguna Seca, 200 lap Indy, etc. I use the Red Bull or another dominating car to get it over with as soon as possible. Sure, it's no challenge but I just want the money, prize car, and experience points.

With all of them, I pause often and come back. I've never A-Spec'd the 9 hour or 24 hour races. Bleh, no thanks.

Nice one Stotty, sounds like a good intense few laps. During the Le Mans, i fell right back in the rain in the Bentley, but had a complete blast regaining time - took a good 6 hours chipping away a few seconds a lap:tup:

Let's see... I've got the 1000km Suzuka to go, as well as the 9-hour Tsukuba, then it's just the 24h at the 'Ring, and I'm done with all the enduros. Ohhh, joy.

Because I did thr Le Mans race before my gave-save corruption, I went to do the 'Ring first this time around. I will savour Le Mans for last.

Intersting how the poll has swung around to favouring the enduros.

I think I'd like to try an enduro with a friend, but that isn't going to happen as they all live far to far away. Online enduros are fun, but difficult to hold any that last longer than two hours due to time-zone differences. We even did a rallycross enduro once.

Well, I did the 24hr Le Mans to get me to Level 40... and it took about 3 weeks to complete, but got my 40. I started to do a 24hr Ring, but backed out... switched to the 172 lap GT500 ...which took 6 hours. note: the car will go 30 laps between fuel ups, plan to stay 1 hour.
I didn't like locking up my player for weeks, but I haven't really played on-line much since BF3 launched. When I do go into rooms, people are just rude and cocky for no reason... and the experience just go down from there. Well, anyway.

I have enjoyed all the ones I have done so far. I only have the two 24 hour events left.
Sure they can be tedious, but there's no better way to learn a track then doing laps on it.

I think they have helped me with concentration too. The only downside for me, is the fact that they tie up the game until you are done with the event.

If it weren't for that I probably would have done the two 24 hour events by now.

Its pretty fun, but it gets boring fast

Sure they can be tedious, but there's no better way to learn a track then doing laps on it.

That's a very good point. There is something to be said to be stuck on the same track for dozens of laps in the same car, that sort of forces an automatic learning of a track. And probably overall the time investment probably is more learning bang for the minute than dozens of sprint races on the track in a dozen different cars.

That said, I'd prefer an online endurance. Not just because it's online but because the cars you have to use for the aspec endurance races I just don't care for really.

OTOH, at least you can pause a 4 hour aspec race. No pausing an online race. And I'm gettin' a bit old to go 4 hours without a bathroom break, which I can't manage during a pit stop.
Unless the endurance is on Eiger Nordwand Short Track with the ridiculously long pit roads.  :sly:

I'm almost 10 hours in now.

As expected, the race becomes far too easy on race soft tyres... running 4 lap stints flat out in the dark I've manged to turn a 2.5 minute deficit in to a 2.5 minute advantage in around 4 hours... fun for a while seeing just how quickly you can run laps (7.41 is my best so far, still driving relatively conservatively to preserve the tyres), but now bvecomes a little boring.

I'm going to go back to 6 lap stints on hards, as the car is nicer to drive and the competition more close.

I never use soft on trye and fuel depletion races, I like to stay on the track not got to the pits more commonly (I use RH as they last longer and are fun when I use them).

Soft tyres and low fuel is definitely the fastest way to get the Viper round the Nurburgring.

The lap time advantage or soft tyres outweighs having to make pit stops every 4 laps as opposed to 6 with hards.

But the car is rubbish to drive on softs as it has far too much grip to be any challenge at all... I'll be switching back to hards on the next stint :)

I still don't like softs' in those races. I won the Nurburgring 4 hour because I stayed on the track longer then the R8 LMS.

Back on hards now... car is a lot more challenging to drive... you have to actually think about how much throttle to use, and the R8 is very slowly reeling me in :)

I've completed every single endurance even from GT1 until GT5 (which I haven't done ANY on.)

Do I like them? Certain ones I despise, other ones I don't do again after completing them, and a few I've done over with a specific car to get another specific car (the Seattle one in GT2 along with the Grand Valley one in the same game, the black '97 R390 was worth it.)

I had to stop the 24hr Sarthe one on GT4 twice due to overheating - and on a slim PS2, as well!
