I'm on about the slowing down of the car by changing down gears faster whilst breaking. Does it actually work and is there a big difference between engine breaking and normal breaking?
It's not obvious but it's there. Try a large engine car. Come off the throttle and start shifting up and down, you'll notice it slows down faster in lower gears.
Yes. How accurate it is I do not know, buit it works. In low gears you may lock up if you aren't patient enough, particularly with ABS off. But it doesn't let you overrev dramatically, that actually seems to lengthen the distance to stop.
I dont think its realistic but its definitely there. Sometimes i'll downshift too quick or jump a gear and my braking distance is wayyyy bigger and I go off track
