I just play DM for about 30min, and got an hours worth of single player. Very interesting and scarey. I need a new vid card :) (Fx 5200). Oh yeah I got it from Game stop, they had them saturday night but didn't sell em till yesterday.

No co-op, that sux, 4 player Dm isn't bad but 4 player Co-op woulda been better.

edit: just found out there are new drivers for nvidia cards(7-27). going to see if it improves performance any

A Mate of mine brought it round, & I installed it, will still buy it when it comes out though :)

Tis a pretty cool game, certainly different to your average FPS. Is perfectly playable on my comp in high detail, but I opted for medium which doesn't look much different but runs like stink. Both in 1024*768. Doom 3 is certainly an 'experience' ;)

I'm stuck playing in ultra low everything, because of my crappy 64mb onboard graphics card, but at the end of this week I will have the money for a 256mb ati card, so it will be smooth as butter :) I'm on the level right after the EnPro plant, which is scary as hell 👍 CHAINSAW :scared:

What kind of 256mb ATI card are you getting, the 9800 XT? x800 PRO? Any how , here in London Ontario Canada we don't get our Doom 3 copies till August 5th at Futureshop and August 6th at Best Buy. Kinda gay if you ask me. :grumpy:

Also, I heard about some minor issues about surround sound on Doom 3 and how sometime the sound goes off and you have to set it again in the sound option. Is that true?

There will probably be mods and levels soon enough for multiplayer which will include BFG support.

I like the game generally speaking, but I probably won't play through it more than once. The idea of the flashlight illuminating everything and not being able to hold a gun at the same time works well for the atmosphere and to basically help scare the bejeezus out of you, but I know that I'll be pretty freakin' tired of it soon.
Hopefully the latter boards will provide more natural light in most areas so I don't have to cope with the switching back and forth for the entire game.

I have to say that I am really impressed with how the lighting was implemented into the game. It's simply incredible. Having now played through part of the game I am proud to say that it is one jaw droppingly beautiful game. Even on my 1.7 Ghz Setup the game runs flawlessly at High Detail and 1024 X 768 resolution. Now, if only I had the Z-680 speakers I intend to order soon...

My biggest gripe is the fact that I had difficulty with the EAX surround sound for my speakers. I had to disable it in order for the game to recognize my sound card. Apparently this is a common issue because the game has it's own sound engine versus EAX.

One Prob with Doom 3 for PC... NO BFG IN MULTIPLAYER!!!

with the small levels and 4 players, i doesn't fit the build. Its the levels not the mode. Remember, the map maker decides what weapons will be in a level, not a server unless there is a server side mod.

I was able to finally play it awhile earlier. Didnt get far enough to fight anything. Had to go to work. I found a tweak to increase your performance. Now where was it...

Here is a tweaking guide:
http://www.viperlair.com/articles/howto/software/tweakd3/

There is also a flashlight mod on fileplanet (have to search for that one.) It lets your handgun emit light, but no other weapons.

You can also use Winrar (3.3 and up I think) to unzip the .pak4 files into the base directory of Doom 3. This will up performance on most machines, but seems to slow load time. I was able to up from medium quality to high quality and have even better performance with this.

Flashlight with gun would reduce the atmosphere, much like those hiking the gamma up large amounts  The game is supposed to be scary & unnerving!

I've just got to bit when a load of spiders appear  had just some machine gun ammo left & ended up throwing grenades everywhere before going through the doors. :D

I like the idea of unpacking the files, sounds good to me but at the moment im running fine, only when it starts to show signs of slowwing down will I start to tweak ;) , but one thing i will do is get rid of that beating heart intro :)

Doom3 is spooky........

I thought FarCry was spooky when you entered the dungeons, turns out it was just a stroll in the park.... :scared:

Just bought Doom 3. Right now im at the part where you have to get to Alpha Lab Sector 4. Its scarey and has beautful graphics, I couldnt believe my computer was able to play this. I am right now running at 1024/760(or whatever the res is) on high settings 4x AA, it seems ultra really bites on my computer. I don't know if you guys know , but there was a thread at Planet Doom's forum about increasing your FPS and maybe able to raise it to higher settings . By doing this you must look for the file DoomConfig.cfg in C:\ProgramFiles\Doom 3\base. Then open DoomConfig.cfg with Notepad. After you do that scroll down and look for "seta image_cacheMegs "32" or whatever number it has in there(it varies). Anyhow depending on your computer and video card, raise it to like 80 or 100 or higher if you want and then save it. Aterwards, go into the Doom 3 game and try it out to see if theres any changes of FPS.Then try it high settings or medium settings. and UR DONE. BTW I think there might be more memory usage if you do this . So this is more inteneded to the more higher end computers then lower-end. Atleast 512 and up should do the trick :)

Anyways What level are you guys at?

same part as you CiBoYs, I haven't played it much as ive been a little busy. plus I like to wait till night time and put my headphones on and play in total darkness, I did this with Far-cry too and it ups the scare faktor ten fold :scared: , but even if you play solitair in the pich black its scary :)

The part with the mirror scared me so bad i had to take a break. I only play when its dark and im alone.

i was trying to not give it away :) but yeah. i

[[[[[[[SPOILER[[[[[[[[[[[

What made it so scarey was the fact that it does not cut from the view it just zooms in and your face decays then every things back to normal. So unexpected so damn scarey,
