Dragracing in a GT game

Betting credits would be ok....and the stakes are defintely higher if you bet stuff, and it moakes it more interesting, but if drag racing was put into the game, i wouldn't mind racing just for the fun of it.
 
Well that makes sense to spice up the game, being able to gamble money on which racer would win if you choose not to pick yourself, being able to race for cars etc.. not only in drag racing but in regular races aswell, road rally etc... just something else to win and lose in the game just to push the fun factor up a bit..
 
Crazy idea passed my mind. No, it's not "Does JohnBM actually have more than 200 posts since Dec 2003?" By the way, I been 200 (in posts at least.) But this is weird:

You know, since you mention betting on racers to win.
 
i coulda sworn there was drag racing in gt2...
 
Argh, why complain about some feature that might attract more players? ? I dont get it.

You dont LOOSE a game mode. You WIN one.
I dont think that im gonna a "fan" of dragracing and i dont want it to be apart of the single player "Gran Turismo-mode" game itself. But it would be fun to play with on MP. Gaah.

Look, if GT is all about road racing, why are there rally races in the game? So drag racing wont be too bad. In fact, the most impressive cars in the world are drag cars. Such as the Top Fuel dragsters. 7,000 hp, 0-60 mph in 0.5 seconds, 0-100 mph in 0.8 seconds, and 0-330 in 4.5. They are also louder than any other car on earth (With 7,000 HP, why shouldn't it be loud?) Not impressive you say? You must be an idiot.

I realize that this is a very old post, but I have to say that I think a drag racing simulator would be about as exciting as a lawn mower simulator, or maybe a cross-country skiing simulator.

And this is speaking as someone who has spent more than one Saturday at the strip.
 
i think it will be fun to be actually setting up your cars for more than just circuit racing (and drifting if your into that)

Dito... I hated the Drag race mode in NFSU. And that was street dragggin with more stuff to do then on a normal drag strip.

Then again, I never understood drag racing really, sure I understand (in RL) it's exciting for the driver (esp. in Top fuel & Funny Car classes) but in the end... big whoop yer car goes fast in a straight lin... so does a train. :rolleyes:
 
In real life, there is quite a bit of strategy and skill involved in drag racing, and yes, it is exciting to participate in and watch.

Unfortunately, virtually none of that excitement translates into a video game at all.

I feel the same abount non military flight sims. Although they do appeal to quite a few people, most of us will be asleep after about 5 minutes at the stick of a vitrual 747. But fly one IRL, and it will be a different story.

But I think that they should add drag racing since it will be very easy to add, and it will be a great mode to play when you have a friend over who is a noob at racing games. And it would be a good online mode, since the racing will be very close and it will be 100% driver skill if the machines are equal.

That was posted on the 31st of March, 2002. It's that old. Ignore it. WhiteEVO, stop reviving threads and telling people to cry you a river. You've made far from the most graceful of entrances to GTP.
 
Drag racing in real life is awsome. But comptuer games, esepcialyl the GT series have a hard tiem rereating it. There are so many specialty parts that must be hard for drag racing. Ultimataly bracket racing makes for the best action in a video game, since it's not just floor it and go. There is a skill to going fast, and not breaking out (going faster then the time you said you would. I would love to see drag racing in the GT series, especially with the appropriate parts, line loc, and especially a delay box, really helps get accurate times.


Gt is the real driving simulator, hate to tell you guys, drag racing is real driving. hey we have rally, why not drag racing, it woudl really complete the game for most types of racing, still missing some off road action, rock crawling, and more truck off road racin glike the score series, but it would make a ncie mix
 
I think someone mentioned this above but I am going to repeat it. Drag racing would be pretty useless unless you had to stage the car on your own and were able to get a reaction time or a red light. Any other version would have absolutly no driver skill involved. I'm not for or against Drag racing. I wouldn't mind it but I wouldn't be disapointed without it.
 
yeah thats basically what i ment (well sortof), it needs to be realistic, not just accelerate to see who is the quickest
 
Of course it would depend on driver shifting inputs and car setup so it wouldn't be purely an acceleration contest.
 
whats even funnier is quoting a 2 year old post and offering an opinion.
 
I just hope you can only drive the mode in manuel. Drag racing in my IMO, needs to be only used in manuel like the D1 series.

IMO, here's what I think the drag mode should only have.

~Only be able to use manuel
~Stage yourself
~Not just pressing the X down until it goes green. You have to wait until it goes green.
~Bracket Racing.
Just some things that I think should be there to make it more realistic.
At the end, you EA time and that comes up.
 
I like your idea about staging yourself. It would be boring to just hold x until it says go. 👍
 
^ The staging idea is great... to truly make this fun, you need to have the player do the burnout to get the temperature of the tires up... how well you do it would effect your starting grip... also, would be nice if there's a a "clutch" button, or release clutch button for this as well. Of course if they get the tire reaction right, if you're flooring the gas when the lights go green, you'll spin out.
