Drifting looks cool but its not something i would do in my car or in any car i will ever own. I want to get a rwd corolla but if i go asking around some guy will tell me that i just want it to drift in which is rather annoying. Me being 18 and owning a corolla (95 model) everyone thinks im a giant initial d fan. The reason i want an AE86 or lower is because of rwd and i learned to drive on a rwd and prefer it over fwd. I prefer small cars with rwd ;)

But one thing, all corolla's since 1984 have been FWD, not RWD. The same if you are talking about the AE95, its FWD too. Just wanted to clear that up is all...

I agree with with both NISMO and Cano, I agree that its ok for kids to learn to drift, but I dont agree with people going out and street racing and parking lot drifitng. And to go along with Cano, ive noticed that a lot too, and it IS getting anoying, knowing how most of them dont actually drift (just beacuse you drift on GT doesent mean your a drifter...).

Wow, a lot has gone on in here since ive left. Its been a while yeah, I got into an accident with my WRX and rolled it a good 2 times, totaled it :( For anyone that wanted to kno...

I don't know where you're getting your facts from, but the AE86 (Corolla GTS, 1985-87 I believe..maybe 84-88..but whatever you get the point) is RWD.

Anything AE92 and up is FWD, i believe they started that in 89.

Its the AE92 in usa and from then up it was FWD except for the 50 or so awd WRC Corolla model. Two of them still race iirc.

Who on earth would have to wonder?

BTW, the idiots in these drift forums don't necessarily represent all people who like drifting.

Those of us who take the time to notice understand that. However, it would do you guys a world of good if you could control the 13-year-old mad tyte dori dori contingent a little yourselves. That way, it wouldn't seem like such a "drift/grip" thing, and it might be more of an "idiot/intelligent" thing that crosses the drift/grip line.

OK, I'm going to claim "BS" on this one in big letters. 10 foot high letters.

Before you jump up and down and throw a tantrum about me stepping on you, I want to see a picture of said car's engine. Along with a hand written sign saying GTplanet sitting on the engine.

Until the time that you can post an image of that, you cannot brag about the car.

If you post that image, I'll issue an apology for calling "BS" on it. Your other choice is to state "You're right, I did BS that. And from now on, I'll contribute better posts with more quality."

i have never drifted a real car i have drifted a gokart before and it wasnt that hard because the track was slick concrete and the tires sucked. i have to say it was a blast i was racing my friends and we were doing little "slides" (i guess they weren't really drift but they were long slides lol) and my friend slide wide and i got inside him and almost hit his front with my rear (plastic/rubber guard on the karts around the wheels) and after the run he freaked out he thought it was so fun and we still had 2 runs left.

i'm not saying when i turn 16 im getting a car and trying that on the freeway but if i'm ever at an event or somewhere that i can't hurt myself nor anyone else i will try to drift a little until i have enough experience to drift. thats my opinion

There are some driving schools in the bigger cities now giving drift sessions for those just learning to drive, you might wanna look that up if its something you really want to do ;) And im betting just saying that will start a whole "people just learning to drive shouldn't be drifitng" thing again

And to go with what Der Alta said, id like to see that too...

Actually, it's not just "now", and they are not really "drifting" lessons. Any good Driver's Education course, beyond the crap freebie you get in high school, has always included a unit on skid control.

You can always hurt yourself or others at auto events, its just alot safer then doing it on the open road.

No no no, im talking about race driving schools, not just plain get your licence driving places. And ts not skid control, they really teach you how to drift.

Im not sure what to say to this thread but i will make some comment anyway. Im seriously worried for the sport of drifting because of the people who hate it because its not racing and the tossers/tryhards and 13yr olds that are trying to jump on the bandwagon. yes it is not racing but it is a competition however and a sport that requires great skill and determination.

Most of all its fun, everybody i know that does it has an awesome time, Dont knock it till youve tried it and for those who havent tried it dont make your names d0r1ft0r and other random **** like that and spout about your awesome powerslides(whilst muttering "on GT3") in your "insert ridiculous HP" "insert Japanese import" tuned by "insert name brand workshop" etc etc... It just makes it harder for the rest of us to establish the sport as a real thing instead of some passing by 13yo fantasy.

Get out
Give it a go
Its better than you could ever imagine

Rip me if you want cause i dont give a flying ****, your probably the 13year old i was talking about anyway or some lonley **** wishing he got out/could drift.

For those not wanting a drifting movie.... your to late. The creators of Initial D have started on making a live action movie. Also drifting looks fun but I wouldn't do it on an open street.

I think its a dumb form of racing and it only a way to show off and pretend do to something you really cant. People drift cuz they cant follow a line or their car isnt really fast...so they make it look 'cool'.

It's not a form of racing, and following a more accurate line gets you bigger points from the judges. Many ties have come down to who had the more accurate drifting line.

I'm all for drifting- on the track. Im not voting because saying yes would be a misstatement and so would saying no. I can't say neutral because I have 2 very strong different opinions on it. Also, drifting takes lots of skill to actually be good at, so don't go bashin pro-drifters. Rhys Millen and just about every other japanese driver (NO IM NOT INCINUATING RHYS MILLEN IS JAPANESE) will kick ur non-driftin ass any day just to prove it. As for drifting on the street? I'd say do it, and ONLY do it in the rain, where it's easier to break lose and thus allow you to move slower, thus lowering the chances of huirting anyobne; or do it on a dirt country road where it's isolated and easy to break lose. You'll also phuck up your tuires too, so it will teach you not to do it a lot.

[Edit] Also, isn't Drifting statistically the safest motorsport ever? The only time I could think of when it's particularily dangerous is on public roads. Also, there is a drift school, theres a drift school in London and there a Stunt Driving school up near Barrie. [Edit]

I dink drifting is just a new kind of technique, there is nothing bad about it. I have nothing against it as long as those ppl just do it in a safe area and don't cause trouble.

Drifting is the motorsport equivalent of ballroom dancing or figure skating.

So you condone drifting on the track, but NOT on public roads...unless it's raining? Sure it's easier to "break lose" in the rain, but it's also harder to regain control.

Drifting is a new technique? Are you sure? I don't "dink" so...

These guys think it's bad.

These people are genius! - what a good idea, i'd join but i don't think 'drifting' deserves such attention, good or bad.

Its no more than organised showing off. How 'going-around-a-corner-not-as-quickly-as-you-could' could ever be classed as motorsport is beyond me! - its like having an 'egg & spoon' race in the Olympics!
