I'm thinking of getting DriveClub from ps store and selling my disc version. Does anyone know if it will work without any problems? I mean if the SP and Bikes are going to work normally? :cheers:

I've never thought about it, but I think you can still have access to the DLCs since you already bought them; you maybe just need to reinstall them on the digital copy.

BTW, are you interested in a private lobby on New Year's Eve?

I think the save files remain, but I'm not sure.
 
Another reason why I hate online on the PS4, there's a multiplayer divide :(

I'm not always playing with mates online everyday of the month so why should I pay for a full month???

I'm down for a New Year Weekend Drive though.
 
I am admittedly a little drunk while posting this so tell me if it's a bad idea. What if the Hot Hatch class was changed to Street Class so we wouldn't be limited to just having Hatchbacks in that class? That way it would be easier for it to grow.

I'm not really sure why DC hasn't had as much growth in the lower vehicle classes, maybe they initially expected the focus to be on the high-end exotics. Anyway, I don't think it's the limitation to hatchbacks though. With the cited lengthy modelling times in this game, cars are likely to take a minimum of eight months to create (and that's without seeking licensing and getting the approval) so I'd say that we are probably due a few more HH or sports class cars soon, especially as Evolution have listened regularly to player requests (and for more HH cars to be made has been regularly asked for.)

Calling it Street Class though might give any tuner culture players out there (who haven't bought the game yet) the wrong idea about DC's content and style.

Though it would make sense if Evo decides to put in cars like the 86 or EK Civic Type R because of the class of power.
 
EVO would be the perfect Dev to save the Need for Speed franchise, not going to happen but if I were EA then I'd see if Sony are willing to pay and have an exclusive NFS done by EVO. Or of course EVO does the natural progression of Driveclub and do an open world Driveclub with customization and we get the perfect racing game (A PGR/FH hybrid by EVO).

Now that I'm Level 45 (and my free two weeks of PSN+ has expired)... I'm really not enamoured by the game. It isn't terrible, but I certainly wasn't expecting such a middling experience after reading through this section.

The graphics can be utterly fantastic when weather is involved, but on a bright, clear day, I wasn't impressed. Though really, I think that's only on account of the lighting engine: cars just look sort of flat on-screen. The soft glow of the car selection screen does them no favours, either. But, I will echo sentiments read elsewhere about the circuits feeling lived in. There's life on the tracks that you just won't find in the empty, clinical world of GT, and to a lesser extent, Forza (their original circuits aren't quite as drab as the rest). Everything feels lived in, and Evo deserves praise for that.

Speaking of Forza, it seems someone took it as a personal challenge that FM5 went so overboard on the lens flare. There have been a few times where I absolutely could not make out what was in front of me because of it.

The sense of speed is fantastic. The sounds, if you're in the right view, are as well. The car selection is definitely upper-echelon-focused, but the picks contained within are inspired.

I'm on the fence about the post-release support. Undoubtedly, it's made for a better game. But that's because the vanilla version was lacking pretty severely. So, kudos for that, I suppose? NFS felt like a more complete arcade racer at launch than the launch version of this (I played very briefly before updating the game, to the tune of a monstrous 12gb). FH2 is massive by comparison, though I like the circuits of DC more, and I understand some are turned off by the more off-road-oriented races that can happen in FH2.

The physics are bizarre. The game pushed me almost to breaking in a longer race around an India circuit in an MP4-12C. Thinking I was in a groove, taking a turn almost exactly the same as I had previous laps, the car suddenly threw itself out from under my control. It did this on three separate occasions, always on the last lap when I was leading. There was also a KTM time trial I did in one of the free DLC expansion championships that had the car going massively sideways on a compression, and resolutely insisting on spinning out on an uphill hairpin, no matter what the approach was. I ended up running it into the wall, intentionally, just to get through.

Oh yeah, and the AI is pants-on-head stupid. Right up there with NFS', it makes GT's Bobs look like masters of race craft. Complete lack of spatial awareness will see them routinely driving you into the wall, or just sideswiping you on a straight. I suppose this could be considered realistic given the insanity you'll discover online, but I doubt it's intentional.

The lack of customization limits things. I know, I know, it's not that sort of game, but most of the competition has it.

Pluses? I know the physics aren't supposed to be hyper-realistic, and I'm fine with that, when it means some drives feel exactly like what you'd expect. The AMG GT S has been a favourite in the game, sounding fantastic, and having that malleable, playful balance you'd expect a compact rear-driver from the guys in Affalterbach. The McLaren P1 is mental, but in games like FM6, it simply feels fast, not impossibly so. In DriveClub, I found myself barely able to keep up on a time trial, constantly shifting up and down, toying with the DRS and KERS to get the best possible lap, while the car just kept on gripping, putting every last ounce of power into forward momentum. It was a thrill, a rollercoaster of laps that had me in awe of the car's abilities. Just as I would expect if I ever had a chance to sample the real thing.

Anyway, it's fun, and the Photomode is gorgeous, so I'll probably still play it a bit more. But as it is, I think GTA5 is going to be residing in the PS4 the most.

Hmm, I can't say it's routinely but the AI is driving the same cars as the player and trying to avoid other cars at high speed is not an easy task in most cars. I find the AI to be fantastic. Remember, the road is not your's it is shared. It can be tricky trying to avoid collisions but the AI is 100% aware of the player and AI is not static. They offer different results after a few corners in every race. I even seen the AI lose the back end, crash into others and wipe out, it's very convincing at times. I mean the Atom 500 lol. that thing should be disallowed by the AI on wet roads :)

For every bad example there are good examples too meaning AI isn't perfect and never should be. That's from my experience from the game after at least 80+ hours and being Level 64.
 
I agree about the AI not being perfect but they're not bad, problem is if you program the AI to avoid obstacles (you) in fast narrow tracks is almost impossible to get right, heck I'm level 64 and I almost always crash when overtaking someone online to avoid hitting them.

Cars feeling different in the same race is very weird, first time I've heard that. Maybe it was the track conditions?

The thing that has really killed this game for me is the absolutely mind numbing decision to lock some elite levels behind bikes that aren't unlocked unless you do some serious grinding. The best thing to happen to the game in my opinion has now been taken away from me since I refuse to grind an inexorable part of the game or pay 1.19 for the privilege to unlock an achievement. This should be a rental for the events and they know this. I hope it's an oversight because otherwise I'm finished with the game.

Isn't the main thrust of DC different though than all of the others? Its aim has been stated from before the launch as to be a game that would grow and change with what the fans/players wanted.

@Brend - the KTM X-Bow won't take that long to get to level 15 - well, it wouldn't have if you had taken advantage of the double XP since Christmas Eve ;) There are a bunch of extra accolades that are back in the running since the update and will level you up far more quickly as a result.

You don't need any XP to unlock the KTM bike, to get to level 10 you just need mileage, on a fast track like Oliver's Landing that builds up quickly in a long time trial session (I did it to get the bike as a kind of DLC-trial).

I just bought it, when my mate bought it a couple months ag he had to download everything seperately, is this all in one package now as i cant see the dlc without a price when i vlick on them?
 
I agree with most of the points that @SlipZtrEm shared. There's no denying that midday lighting will never be classified as photogenic in a video game, no matter how realistic it is rendered, and that's the point. Reality is not always eye-catching, and developers over the years have got some rather unfair flak for recreating the unassuming atmosphere of noonday quite accurately.

The AI is where I'm on the fence. Having just completed the Single Events accolade, mostly playing on Legend difficulty before dropping to Professional after I switched to a manual transmission, I can safely say that the AI is not the best, but it's not the worst either. I would rate it at about the same level of intelligence as Shift 2 Unleashed's AI.
That being said, not all of us are blessed with lightning fast Internet connections, so we have to deal with ghosting, lagging and the general unpleasantness that comes with that sort of online racing. The number of decent online races that I have played have produced results that, while satisfying, left me wanting more, because everyone else was just being too careful. I don't expect anyone to be reckless on a narrow Scottish village road during a storm, but the Al's alleged lack of spatial awareness seems to be present for a good reason.

Physics I don't really need to go into detail about, because I genuinely think that Evo have nailed the perfect equilibrium between arcade and simulation, the type of physics that is welcomed with a gamepad. Some cars still handle atrociously, and by that I mean that they can be tame one moment and wild the next, but with the right throttle control, the physics are quite satisfying.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but nobody should be turned off from this game by somebody else's, and that we PS4-only owners don't have a choice. It took some time to get going, but where else on the PS4 are you going to find unlockables? A constant drip-feed of single -player events? Customisable single-player events? A full-fledged photo mode and replay function? Original racing circuits, in locations not normally featured in a racer? The choice of cars and bikes? We don't play Driveclub because it's the only racer we have, but because it's the best racer that we (PS4-only players) have.

I'm guessing you bought the season pass, if not, the free cars should all be available in your garage. You might have to complete the installation though, via the in-game store page on the game home screen.

If you do have the season pass and the content isn't showing after using the above trick - is your disc the same region as your account/pass?

@2clicks to be honest, I don't really understand why people would only go for midday and dry conditions in the first place, not when there is so much beauty and range in the lighting available 👍
