I see. I thought it would be working like in AC where you do earn money from everything you buy so was afraid I was loosing potential future money by holding off car purchases. I am fine with just robbing cars ;)

Has anyone here tried this game with 2 gig of ram versus more?

i'm playing it and i have 3 gb of ram and the same issue with slowdowns when in a chase, i'm guessing that they didn't optimize the game too well as it does have some weird hiccups every now and then

Thanks for that. I was contemplating trying to put in 1 gig more but won´t do it now. The computer will hang on boot 19x of 20. When you get that magic boot it´s fine but it´s not good for the blood pressure lol

I have no self control Ordered a new set of ram sticks now it better work with my mainboard and it better improve performance. At the moment I can´t run any race at all including cops or AI racers and not get stuttery 15 fps.

My copy of DSF was finally delivered this tuesday morning and been playing it ever since. Overall, I'm enjoying and completely loving every second of it hence the short story, but it's forgivable since there are a large number of side missions to be done and free roaming let alone is a blast. The driving physics are great fun and I just simply can't get enough of throwing out the cars' end and powersliding, dare I say drifting?

Multiplayer on the other, not so much. Whereas I enjoyed the MP demo very much, I'm having a hard time to do the same at the moment. It's a complete chaos, which for me has quickly become a frustration. Oh well, I will eventually get used to it.

This definitely gets my vote for GOTY. A great come-back for the Reflections team.

I would agree if I could get it running smoothly. I installed the 4 gig of ram but it make no difference. I can run low quality in 1360x768 and get the same crappy performance as high quality in 1920x1080 :( It´s so bad it´s virtually unplayable now. Very stuttery 15 fps as standard more or less where I should be over 100...

What specs have you got?

That's a shame. I looked for some answers on Ubisofts' forum but I could only conclude that an awful lot of people with great PC rigs and specs are having performance issues.

I suppose that is comforting.

I have a Core 2 duo running at 3,6 gig, now 4 gig of RAM and GTX 580. Tried Win 7 32 and 64-bit so it should be able to run it.

I did check with fraps and while free roaming I am more often then not over 100 fps but there is some micro stuttes obviously that make it feel more like a laggy 15 fps... Which explains why it doesn´t matter much what settings I run at. On the legal trouble challenge that shouldn´t be that demanding I am occasionally down to 30 fps at the lowest. A bit worse then 100 fps but not much. So there is more of a stutter issue then performance issue. Going from 2 gig to 4 gig as mentioned this wasn´t the bottleneck obviously.

Really frustrating because I can sense there is some real fun to be had and it did run smooth initially at least while free roaming :(. I did try to start a new game but same crap.

As far as I know, there's no wheel support at all for the console versions. Honestly I doubt it'd even be any good with a wheel because there would be so many buttons that you'd need to map.

I don't know if there's any wheel support - I suspect not - but the G25 certainly isn't supported.

Ok, thanks!

Too bad tough, was looking forward to just cruising the streets. Is 'free ride' still in or has it been removed?

All of the single player is based in one 'path', as in, you access the entire single player from the 'Career' mode. You can cruise around in that mode as much as you like, and obviously in any car you see.

There is wheel support on the PC mode by the way, however I think it only was properly supported after a major patch came out.

Thanks for your replies :)

Today I finally popped the game into my console after it had been collecting dust since release (pre-ordered it then I met a girl & lost the time to play :) )

Verdict: I love it!! I love eveything about it. I just wish the G27 was supported since it has more than enough buttons. I think I'll try to start the game with the wheel and see what happens, with a little luck maybe just cruising around actually works.

Driver has that feel of the car that Test Drive lacks, otherwise Test Drive would be a great cruising game...

(I'll probably give GT5 a spin once the new patch comes out as well, have to change rims on all my standards :) )

Can you do split screen 2 player free roam? I want an arcade racer for my son and I... stupid Burnout is only 1 player.

Yes, you can 2 player splitscreen free roam in Driver:sf :)

True. It's fun and after the new patch, the car variety changes every time (from four (?) ready selection), when restarting the game. Also there is the normal sunny and sometimes a foggy and a little darker weather, which also changes when restarting.

So, four car selections and two different weathers. No police cars in split-screen (two player missions has them, free roam doesn't) Hopefully you understand me.

Random one of these comes, when entering a split-screen free drive. Two example cars from every:
Cars 1: RUF CTR, Dodge Challenger...
Cars 2: Airport firefighter, R32 Skyline...
Cars 3: RUF RT12, Chervolet Corvette...
Cars 4: Chervolet Volt, Audi A4...

Random one of these comes also, sunny or foggy weather. Sunny is more common. Hope this helps. :)

SINGLEplayer cars:

All cars in Driver SF, driveable in singleplayer (some of these only in missions):

By the way, all you Mac Gamers, Driver San Francisco is now available for Mac via Steam. It's $30 for the regular version and $35 for the Deluxe Edition which includes 4 new challenges for single-player and 3 new cars (Aston Martin DB5, Shelby/AC Cobra and old Lambo Miura). Figured some people might be interested in that. There's no demo for it...but I believe Ubisoft has already said that the Mac version wouldn't get a demo. Anyways, figured I'd mention that.

If you're on a Mac and you want to demo it, you can get OnLive, they should let you do a 30 minute demo of the full game.

Is it me or do some cars in traffic go missing? For example, at the beginning of the game, there were tons of Alfa MiTos, but now theres none to be found!

It depends on where on the map you are, different areas ha e different cars. But I see what you mean, I'm sooooo sick of the XLR (?) :)

This game can't be played with the g27 unfortunately :(

The PC and Mac version can only be played with mouse and keyboard...no controllers...which, is kinda silly, in my opinion. I mean, they couldn't port in the controls for at least the 360 and PS3 controllers? Really?

I just got this game and I'm on Chapter 3 and so far, the physics are actually pretty good and it feels good and it's fun...but there are a few issues I have, and I'm going to leave the crappy acting off my bad list, because even if you've seen the trailers, you know the acting is bad. My first issue is: why did they change the story? At the end of Driver 3, Jericho shot Tanner in the back, and we hear Tanner being rushed to the hospital...so...why did they HAVE to make Tanner get in a crash at the beginning of the game? Why not have him still in a coma from when he was in Miami. And San Fran was in the first game. I mean, if they'd left off the whole entire part about the accident at the beginning, it wouldn't have changed anything and put Driver SF really in the Driver universe like they were trying to do.

Second, the default keyboard controls are weird. "C" is boost and "B" is change view? What? And why are the stupid shift controls different from the driving controls? That's just annoying. But, yeah, if you get it on PC or Mac...you might want to change your controls right off. I've played it with the defaults and it's VERY irritating because I keep hitting the wrong buttons. A minor issue with Mac, for some STUPID reason the hot corners are still activated while in full screen mode, which can get irritating, so you might want to turn those off while playing.

Thirdly...I has a console game feel to it. It's one of those crappy computer ports where you're playing and going, "Wow, I bet this would be a LOT easier with a controller." Which, just leaves more of a head scratcher as to why they don't let you play with a controller. It's like they punish people who play the PC/Mac versions with crappy keyboard controls and no controller support.

Lastly, I don't know if anyone else experienced this, but I had an awesome end to the Land Rover pursuit where it rolled over a bunch of times, and I wanted to save it, so I went into the film director thing...and I couldn't get OUT of the film director thing. I clicked Exit, it prompted me to save and then spit me right back into the Film Director. I actually had to quit the game to get out of it.

But, so far, it's pretty fun. It's especially fun to just cruise around and destroy stuff. You can't die or get arrested, so you can slam into a cop car let the driver get busted and pick a different car. So, the shift mechanic actually works REALLY well, and Reflection Studios did an EXCELLENT job of making what could easily have been a clunky, weird thing into something really innovating that I would LOVE to see in future Driver games. It feels like a Driver, game, too. Which is nice that they kept their flavor. It's close to feeling like a Midnight Club game...but not quite.

I would have liked to see the Dodge SRT4 in there, but it's not a big deal. I also would've liked to at least pick the color of the car that I get from the dealerships, as well, but again...not a big deal. So far, a 3/5. And the console versions would get a 4/5...because this game was meant for a console.

Alright, I've beaten the main story and...the story is actually pretty good and they use some really tools that are actually pretty cool. So, now, the overall game is bumped to a 4/5. I just have one more question: What's with the random fantasy cars? I mean during the cut scenes, every so often there's an Aspyer or whatever it is. I don't know why it's there. I mean, they have all those licensed vehicles, why not just use one of those? I figure some of the cut scenes were made before they had all the licenses and they were just too lazy to change the vehicle models.

Great game! I played it with 360 and there is not much bad to say about it. All seemed to stay true to first PS game, and game had good sense of humour and there was ton of references to classic car movies and car culture. Driving model is one of the best in "arcade games" all cars feel realistic with controller in sense that you notice that handling of each car makes sense compared to e.g. forza 4 with controller. It is like burnout paradise with real cars and story :)
Easily gets 9/10 from me!

Can this game be played with a DFGT on a PS3?

Considering that there's no controller support for the Mac/PC version, I doubt that the console versions can use anything but their controllers. But, I'm not sure on that.

The tire smoke model in this game is the best I've seen. I personally think my biggest negative about is a couple of the sets, like the Corvettes, all feel the same. I didn't really feel a difference between the Drift Corvette, the ZR1 and Cop Corvette.

Other than that, it kinda reminds me of NFS Most Wanted with better car models and physics and with all the traffic cars unlocked. And I REALLY wish the Cops would call out your car like in NFS, but there are a couple things I want this game to do.

I think for future DLCs, if they just added some new cars, open up the last little bit of map and maybe a way to get to Alcatrez and maybe a stunt area at the old Alameda Naval Yard (Now owned by M5 Industries and once used for Matrix Reloaded and now one of the favorite sites for Mythbusters) then it would just be perfect.
