Alright, here goes nothing :)

Since i was a little kid I've always loved cars. By the age of 3 i knew basically every brand. My Grandpa and i used to go out on walks looking at cars going by just for fun (he was a car mechanic) I've collected models of cars and got more than 200 unopened boxes. During Christmas 1997 when i was 9 i got a PS1 with GT1 as a Christmas present. So basically I've been playing the GT series from the start. I loved every moment of it.

Before GT5 was released i watched a lot of Top Gear episodes and saw them driving around on their track with various beautiful cars just power-sliding all over the track. This was what i imagined for GT5. On November 24th around 9.45 am i took my boring Volvo S60 down to the store, even though my car is boring i was smiling, i was going to buy the game I've been highly anticipating, for a long time. Once i got home i ripped the plastic off the case and put the disc in, i was ready to play! Unfortunately there was a tiny installation that needed to be done :) After about an hour the intro movie went on and i was sitting there like a little kid on Christmas.

So, i bought myself a Honda Civic and started racing and i basically haven't stopped ever since. It's a wonderful game, I love the huge variety of cars, i love that they all feel different, sound different and many of them look stunningly good. But most of all i love that you can pick out any car in your garage and just take it for a spin. You can tweak the car, perhaps not as much as in GT4 for instance but still it gives you a sense of freedom. I've only played this with a SixAxis but i bet its even better with a wheel.

However it's not perfect. The GFX are not entirely what i was looking for after 5 or 6 years of development, with screen tearing and flimsy shadows. Unconvincing damage and from time to time the AI is a bit weak as well. The fact that PD made all the Expert and Extreme races with no driving aids and manual shifting shows that to get the best experience you need a racing wheel since its pretty hard to control the throttle with a button. Since I cant afford a wheel, I don't get to experience the game as it should be.

Anyway, if you love racing, if you love cars. You gotta love GT5.

I know i do.

Sorry about the bad English, as it's not my native language i could only do so well, hope it's readable.

Thanks a lot Kai for the opportunity, hope you enjoy the read.

Best Regards: Tomas

I smell a rat. Why would anyone in their right mind buy 12 wheels at $40? Even 'giving one away' would still leave that person with 11, use one themselves and you've got 10 wheels gathering dust.

Either this person is a reincarnage of Mother Theresa or she's escaped from a secure unit. Joined less than 3 weeks ago and offering a free GT wheel, nah, I don't think so. The sad thing is I can't see what motive she has for doing this. All the sad saps sucking us to her will say she's just being a decent person but I don't buy that.

I'll watch this thread with great interest.

I already rock a G25, so no competition for me.
But I can always use more racing friends.
I'll send you a friend request Kai.
👍

Please do Viper. I need as many gear head friends as I can get. Nothing worse then setting up a lounge with no one to race. Since I joined the forum I have added almost 50 friends. I'm loving it.

I usually race stock cars. No assist. I don't mind running tunes after I see how new peeps handle there wheel. I usually set up NUrburgring pitch black and just follow and watch closely behind. I just love everything about cars and racing.

Thanks GTPlanet.

I am not surprised to hear this honestly. I don't have 10 wheels left. If you had read my original post I have already given away 2 of them on the sony GT forum. This is something you can check with their admins on. MasterGT can vouch for me. There is no rat buddy. I'm just a girl who loves racing. I have been on this forum for years. I have recently signed up because of the release of GT5.

I want you to watch this forum very closely because some lucky racer is about to get a new DFGT wheel. Love the reviews guys keep them coming. Also the reason I bought 12 wheels was because I wanted to someday give them away. I have also mailed one to a friend I met on GT5 prologue. He is also a member of the sony GT forum.

Kai.....

sorry if already posted but have no time to read everything on this forum but how about creating tracks and people can vote for the best 1.

good on you kia and dont let the h8rs knock you down

I don't know where you got this "fact", but it is surely not that way. I'm still using Auto transmission (I know, I'm not that good) and ABS=1 even for level 23 races.

You would be suprised how many people on GTP are actually decent, nice people. But it's people like you that come into our community and bash threads for what reason, who the heck knows.

It's obviously meant to be played manually since they change it from AT to MT from 1 series to another.

I merely said I smelt a rat, I wasn't 'bashing' the thread at all. How dare I come into the community and have an opinion. People like you make me want to throw up, grow up and get a life.

Big up to you Kai Lee, just goes to show that an old cynic like me can be wrong.

Had I just not purchased my DFGT a few weeks ago I would have written a review. Therefore I will just add you on PSN and see you online sometime! However, I must warn I can't use my wheel yet as my wife has hidden it until christmas, haha!

My review of Gran Turismo 5 (I may edit this when I have more free time):

When purchasing a game for the PS3, I usually adhere to standards that are more strict than PC games, because of the $60 price tags. After playing GT5 for awhile, I ask my self the inevitable question...Was it worth the $60? Yes. I have gotten around 100 hours of enjoyment out of it thus far and I'm not done with it yet.

Will it be something that entertains me year round? Probably not. The single player game simply does not contain enough events and tracks to keep things fresh and new for a long period of time. I found that I have already obtained some of the best cars in the game in a matter of a week. Currently, the online play leaves a lot to be desired.

This brings me to my first negative. GT5 boasts 1000 cars. However, the event requirements, experience and money system in place has made it such that I've only needed less than 10. When I go car shopping in the game, I find tons of cars that have less than 100hp, but don't see any races where they can be used. I also see a huge amount of 200-300hp cars, but have cleared all the events that make use of these cars in a matter of a day. I'm not sure what the game could do to make this better. Perhaps some 50hp and lower races in the beginner series and an entire new series between amateur and professional would have done the trick. I found myself not only being able to obtain 800+hp supercars quickly, but that the game was actually requiring me to purchase them in order to compete in events where the AI had 800+hp supercars. The transition was too quick for my taste.

To be continued.......

Has a competitition allready been set up/decided upon, if not then may I add my suggestion, lowest unique bid wins, one entry per person, lowest unique bid gets the dfgt for that amount.

My GT5 Review

So, after waiting for what seemed an eternity (okay, maybe not THAT long), GT5 finally hit shelves across Noth America, and probably like many of you, I was at the store on November 24 and grabbed my new shiny love obsession.

Once I got home, I waited patiently for the game to install, but I have to tell you that it was the longest 20 minutes of my life (in reality it took about 47 minutes, but the console kept telling me 20). I then forced my girlfriend to watch the opening movie with me and loved every second of it.

Actually getting into the game took a while the first time because of constant mini-installs thoughout the game, but that can't be helped when you look at how large the game is. And although I was disappointed, in retrospect it was a good idea for them not to allow us to import our garages and credits fom GT5 Prologue as this forced us to start fresh and learn how to use basic cars.

The license tests were a welcome sight, like a long lost friend or missing sock. Although they serve no purpose in the games advancement, they were very useful in cleaning the cobwebs off of my driving game. The Special events so far(I'm only level 15 right now) have been very challenging, which is a welcome change to the usual game where you can mod a car until there is no challenge in the races.

The actual racing itself is pretty much what we've all come to expect from the series, but the ability to flip your car and spin out has definitely made things more interesting, especially when you combine that with the genius A.I. that has been included with this game. The swear jar at my place has been getting much heavier thanks to the A.I. constantly forcing me to spin out when they nudge the rear end of the car.

I know some people would scoff at this next statement, but I really like B-Spec, and here's why. I'm a new dad (2 months old tomorrow), so when it comes time to take care of the baby, I know that in some way, someone's still racing my cars for me and earning me credits. Sure, the drivers we get are pretty bad and stay bad, but it's made my life easier in terms of earning money and cars.

Visually, the game unfortunately looks like GT4. Sure, there are minor enhancements to the tracks, and the Premium models look pretty good, but all in all, it's the same graphics from GT4. Throw in poor shading and very rough edges, and visually the game is kind of bad for the PS3. That's my main dislike, and now we'll move on.

I haven't tested the online gaming yet, mainly because there are no prizes, but also because of gaming limitations for me. I'm sure I'll get there eventually when I can put more time into it, but for now I cannot comment on the online aspect.

From my experience so far, this game is quite good, and aside from the graphics, it's an obvious step up from GT4. I won't go so far as to say this is the best game for PS3, or that it's the best racing game out there because "best" in reference to video games is very much relative to each individuals likes and dislikes. I will say that in my opinion this is the best game in my collection, and I know that I and several million other racing fans will be spending many many hours loving this game.

A few of you guys on the forums read my post about picking up 12 DFGT wheels. They were on sale at Sam's Club for 40 bucks last year. So I picked up everyone I could find. I even gave away a couple on Sony's GT forum.

I would like to do the same on GTPlanet. So many of you have asked if I could sell one. I have a better idea. I am going to give one away. I have not figured out all the details. But I want to do it. Gt needs a wheel.

So send me suggestions for a contest guys. Also I am having trouble getting good races online. My psn id is Kai_OS. Send request guys. I am currently level 25. I love to race stock cars. I mean tunes are great but I love to see how stock cars match up vs one another. I race Nurburg a lot. I will be updating this thread often. The official contest will be on this tread

Ok so here are the contest details. I have liked a few of the communities suggestions. So here goes.

Post a review of Gran Turismo 5 in this thread. There are no guidelines for the review. I will choose 10 of my favorites after reading through them all. The 10 finalist will all be assigned a car to gift to yours truly. Keep about a million credits available. Soemone posted this in the thread today. I love the idea. The top ten will also participate in a event in my Lounge. This event will be a 3 lap night time race on Nurburgring. I mean pitch black. The winner will be determined at the end of the race. The winner of the race will not necessarily be the winner of the contest. I will draw names at the end of the race. I will also be spectating the event. My camera will be rolling. I will leave this event open to everyone. Once again shipping is on me

The race is like a ceremony. A celebration of GT and cars. Good luck to everyone.

awww so unfair..i don't have GT5 i just want the wheel to play gt4

GT5 for the newcomer,
Having played the Gran Turismo series from its grassroots on the PS1 I think it's safe to say that I can provide an fair opinion.

First off no matter how long in development this game was people will never be truly happy with the end product.

Purchase:
Honestly I wasnt expecting to stumble upon the Collector's Edition when I went to Best Buy on the day of its release. I parked my truck, walked past a couple of green peace activists and about half a dozen tents that were camped out awaiting BLACK FRIDAY.
I made my rounds through the Blu-Rays, checked out some TVs, then made my way to the video game section. I about had a heart attack when I saw the last CE of GT5 sitting there like it was waiting for my to pick it up. A couple of guys rounded the corner and I got paranoid and snatched it up like it was a child who was about to be abducted by a stranger.

I only had $90 and some change on me at the time and my cellphone was dying....what to do.

I used the last of my battery life to make an emergency call to my bank and had them shift around some cash in my accounts so I could walk out with my baby (GT5). With that done I stand in line gazing at my soon to be new purchase with almost the same loving eyes I gave my son 10 months ago when he was born. I pay $108.XX after tax, a small price to pay for a game which is the main reason I bought a PS3. As I make my way toward the exit I remember....GREEN PEACE, great what am I going to do. I just want to go home and crack the seal and blister my thumbs on the much dreaded license tests already. I slow my pace and luck out, someone was walking out at the same time as me. The Green Peace hippies flock to this guy and his family, I stroll past and jump into my truck and fly home.

Unboxing:
It was really quick and not as holy as I thought it was going to be. I might buy the Signature Edition later on so I can feel like Indiana Jones when he's stealing the fertility idol. The GTR model is cool, very detailed and wouldnt expect anything less from KYOSHO. The book is an interesting read, from the beginning it talks about elements, how the planets were formed, how cars are made yadda yadda yadda. Definatly a book to read when I'm at work and there's nothing going on. The certificate of authenticity is nice, it might get framed. And of course the game which leads me to

::Drum roll please::
Initial Gameplay:
The opening movie was/is Phenomenal. It pretty much is a video interpretation of how the automobile comes to life, from mining the metals, to melting it down, stamping the steel....etc.

You are prompted to create your "My Home" pick your driver, make sure you like what he/she is wearing cos' you're stuck with it....i'm stuck with bright green driving gloves (I got jynxed by green peace?).

The install onto the hard drive takes a little while, I just hit load and watched tv for an hour before i checked back on it. 3 seconds left actually means 15 minutes to go by the way.

OK it's installed, I've got 20K credits...lets buy a car.
I opted for the Civic Type R hatch. But wait a second....what's this in the game packaging?!? 5 free cars?!? OK, I opted for the Civic type R and got the 5pk on the side.
Let's start out with the Clubman race in the Beginner races!

First race:
Shelby Cobra Chrome Line against miatas civics and other 4-bangers....it was a slaughter.
I know I took the fun out of my first race, but trust me. IT WAS FUN. The sound quality in this game is amazing, you can hear the raspy throaty growl of the Cobra 427's V8 powerplant just waiting to shred it's tires. the car handled like the town drunk running at a track meet, or away from the police....very fast and somewhat clumsy, that is until you master it.

As the races went on and I learned the driving physics and how they have changed over time. I can say that I am a confident racer just after an hour with the game.

Online:
I really havent played too much online, but the few "cruises" and "sprints" I did with people were entertaining. The lack of XP or Cash for races was kind of a bummer, but I am sure that it is for a reason (abuse/boosting and so on).

Gran Turismo 5 by the numbers:

Graphics:
10/10 for someone who hasnt played the game as long as some of the members on this site.

8/10 for the fanboys & girls out there, and mainly because i'm being anal. The shadows on the ground, wheels, and cockpit view (i didnt really notice anything too bad in first person view TBH). The pixelated effect w/tiresmoke...etc. Like I said, anal right?

Gameplay: 9/10
I find the challenges and the top tier races to be, well....challenging. Great replay value from the top gear, rally, AMG school events all the way over to the License tests will have gamers keeping themselves busy for some time, unless you're a prodigy, or i'm getting old and cant play they way i used to.

Sound: 10/10 The sound is great, but the music can be a bit repetitive. You can always use your own music from your hard drive or just turn the BGM down all the way.

Overall: 10/10
The car selection is one of the best to date with the GT series. I laughed when I saw the Stagea =]
It's sad that some of our beloved cars missed the cut for the Premium line (Supra Q.Q)
The load times can be a pain in the rear, but I just remind myself of the details...THE DETAILS!
Great game that stays true to the core for racing simulators. PD paved the way for racing games and have raised the bar each and every time they release a title....even for the PSP. Granted I've since joined the military, moved to alaska, moved back to San Diego, and had a son all in the time since the last game was released, the wait for GT5 was worth it and I hope that everyone embraces the game that has changed console gaming as much as I do.

Thankyou.

You have won the first spot in the lounge! Good luck. Nine more to go!

Not one really to write reviews but to commentate on gameplay.

I have recently got into racing and cant currently afford a DFGT so a giveaway would help!

GT5 review by imaROBOT_

Being a huge GT fan and playing through every GT that has been released I can say with pride that GT5 is one of the greatest. It is so feature packed with so much attention to detail, that for me, it doesn't disappoint.

It's actually a funny story the way I got the game. I knew it had been released and my GF and I went to Target to pick up some essential things that we needed. We have been going through a really hard time financially lately and I wasn't expecting to get the game until Christmas, if that was even possible.

We happened to pass by the game section and I took a look at the game box holding it in my hand. My GF walked up to me and saw what I was holding, she said "Hey isn't that the game you've been talking about for years?" and I said "yes actually it is, it looks really good". Then I walked off knowing that we didn't have the money to get it right now, semi-disappointed.

We got home from Target and started putting away the grocery's and then I sat down on the couch. My GF then walked up to me holding a bag in her hand with a big smile on her face, and I got suspicious of her. Next thing I know she tells me she loves me and holds out a new copy of GT5 for me 👍. I jumped up so surprised and happy to finally get the game I've wanted for 6 years.

The wait was finally over for me and I hurried and shoved GT5 into my PS3. First look at the menus and everything surprised me. It didn't look as organized as GT4 did to me, but nothing too bad. I quickly started GT Mode and started a new driver. I then went straight to the new car dealership hoping to get a sweet brand new car. I then quickly found out I was going to have to wait awhile to get any car that I wanted...

You can now only purchase a car if your A-Spec level matches or is higher than that of the car you want. I was put off by this at first, but learned that it isn't such a bad thing. I found my self very addicted to trying to reach higher and higher levels. It makes you want to keep playing. I think the idea is great now and even though it forces you to grind races until the next level, you really feel satisfied once you finally reach that level and unlock the car you've been itching to get into it. So far I've got my hand and quite a few different types of cars and just like past GT games, they all have a unique feel to them and each require a different way of handling. This of course has always been the best part of Gran Truismo, the cars! I can safely say that PD nailed the cars in GT5. Another big deal for GT5 is that they have introduced different types of cars, you have the amazing premium cars and then you have not so great standard cars.

A lot of controversy has been surrounded about the standard and premium cars. My very first car I got into was actually a standard type and I felt right at home with it. The standard cars almost feel exactly like their GT4 counterpart. Now that can been seen as a good or bad. The bad part is that the standard cars cannot be modded. You cannot install new wheels or any other body parts to a standard car. You can still tune them with new performance parts, but that's about it. Also some of the standard car models are.. let's just says less then good. You can clearly see issues on some, but others look just fine. Now the premium cars on the other hand are a real piece of art. Once you strap into a brand new premium car and start tearing up the track in the new cockpit view is where GT5 truly shines. All of the premium cars can be purchased at the dealership, while the standard cars are in the used car lot. The used car lot changes after every race so you'll want to be checking it frequently because they are some gems to be found there.

Also new to the series is the NASCAR and WRC challenges. The NASCAR challenges I have played so far were frankly, very easy. I finished these very fast with almost no effort. The WRC challenges for me are a different story. The rally challenges have been pretty tough for me so far, but not so hard where you're not having fun. I haven't unlocked the last WRC or NASCAR challenges yet, so I can't really review them now. A little secret though is that the special challenges are where you want to go for easy credits and to gain a lot of experience fast.

Graphics and sound are yet another thing GT5 has got perfect. When you think of GT5 you think of the amazing graphics and realism. Engine sounds are spot on for the cars that I have tried out so far. Once you mod a car with new exhaust and engine upgrades you automatically hear the difference. I modded my Corvette ZR-1 with a supercharger and it roars down the track now. There are also 16 lucky cars that you are able to do a full race mod, where the whole car is gutted with new performance parts and a paint job, it comes with a heavy price tag though.

I think PD have really out done themselves with GT5. They aimed really high and I think they have done very well. A lot of people will tell you they are disappointed that somethings are missing (online leaderboard for example), but if you look at everything that is in the game, you really have a lot to play through. PD says this things will be patched so were going to have to take their word for it now.

Another thing I want to talk about is the online mode of GT5. I've had quite a bit of time online racing and It has all been a blast. Everyone seems to want to race clean (even if they have trouble doing it at times) and you don't see many people ruining the experience. I've also joined some friends lounges and this has been the best experience so far. Racing from a roll on SSR7 is so much fun, I've done it for hours. My advice, find a group of friends and get into a lounge with them and start thinking of all the possible races you can run, you won't get bored here.

As you can see I'm not disappointed with much of GT5. While I notice that there are some graphic issues, such as shadows and standard car models. The fact is that the rest of GT5 is so good that I don't notice these things.

Overall score, I give GT5 a 9/10. I believe it is the best racer on the market right now and if you are a fan of the racing genre, you can't go wrong with picking up GT5.

Thanks for reading, hope you like my little story and review :D

Jville808 GT5 Review

Prior to GT5, most of my Gran Turismo experience was from the first Gran Turismo which I played until my fingers hurt every day back in 1998. I’ve owned them all through the years with the exception for GT5P which I refused to buy with the assumption and false hopes that the “real” GT5 was right around the corner. None ever grabbed so much of my attention like the original Gran Turismo did. None, including the original, was more anticipated than GT5. GT5 was the reason I chose to stick with Playstation when decision time came to purchase a next-gen console. Could it possibly live up to the hype?

In the months and days leading up to the release I, like many of you, found myself glued to GT Planet looking for even the slightest bit of new info. As soon as the game started leaking came all the complaining. Standard vs. Premium…Custom wheels….Vehicle Damage…etc. My opinion was being formed already without ever playing the game for myself.

That said, when I first loaded and played the game for the first time last Wednesday afternoon (it’s only been one week?) I immediately started picking it apart myself. “I haven’t seen blocky graphics (mostly in the vehicle shadows) like that since the PS2 on an SDTV!” The game honestly felt rushed…incomplete even. “What could possible have taken so long to complete?” I asked. Although I’m big on first impressions, I wasn’t about to give up just yet. For all of its flaws, this was Gran Turismo…on the PS3 finally!

Once I got past my first impression, which was mostly influenced from what I had read on the internet during that insanely long 22 day delay (say that 5 times fast!) I started to settle in and enjoy the game for what it is….a driving simulator. While it started off slow, I was soon earning enough credits to buy my dream car and begin tuning it into a prize winning racer. I love how the cars are modeled, standard or premium. Outside of some of the customization and the cockpit view, I really don’t notice the difference in-race. I’m actually glad PD included the standard cars vs. not having them in the game at all. Don’t get me wrong, I love the “interior” view. That was a great touch by PD, and I look forward to future cars being available via DLC (hopefully).

As far as the graphics issues I pointed out earlier, it’s only really noticeable (for me) when at the starting line. One of what now seems to be few minor flaws.Gran Turismo in HD is a thing of beauty. I feel like I’m playing Gran Turismo for the first time again, 12-1/2 years later. Its great racing on updated courses that I once raced intensely on back in the day, as well as experiencing new tracks and variations of the old ones to keep everything fresh. This game is as unforgiving as it ever was and then some with the some of the challenges (which is why I’ve realized I need a wheel now more than ever). I like that. It gives you a great feeling of accomplishment when you finally get gold in that license test you’ve taken 30 times over, or that Lotus challenge that at first doesn’t seem like you’ll even make it around the first corner (I still haven’t made it around that corner actually…lol).

Now that I’m older (34), I don’t have all the friends around me spending days in front of a video game anymore. That might be part of why GT lost its luster to me in all the games since. Playing the computer will only hold my attention for so long. Now with the PS3 and the PSN I can enjoy those heated races against other human drivers again. I haven’t been big on the online competition in most games (incl. games like Call Of Duty, sacrilege I know!) because I’m usually not as good as everyone playing and tend to get killed off pretty quickly. Not true with GT5. I can’t get enough of the online competition! If you have a decent car and some driving skills you can compete. While the online portion of the game has had some issues, they pale in comparison to the fun that can be had racing online. Each room offers its own unique challenge depending on the people in it and the rules created within the room.

Overall PD did a very fine job with GT5. I’m looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us in the future. Here’s my ratings for this game:

Gameplay: 9.5/10 Challenging even sometimes unforgiving, but very rewarding. The AI will make you scratch your head every now and then but overall an excellent experience. Very high replayablity.

Graphics: 8.5/10 Overall excellent graphics with the exception of some shading issues.

Sound: 10/10 The best game so far on the PS3 on a 7.1 surround. I look forward to adding my own custom soundtrack. Ministry’s “Jesus Built My Hotrod” anyone?

Online: 8.5/10 IMO the best online experience on the PS3, or at least will be if PD gets all the kinks worked out.

Overall: 9/10 It’s not perfect, but it is an excellent game that will keep my attention for along time. Not many games do that these days. I can’t imagine what GT6 will be like.

We have been living together for almost a year now, but the past few months we've been broke due to her losing her job.

To say the least I was shocked when I saw she got it with the little bit of money we had.

Nice work getting a spot though, hopefully I get to see you on the track :D.

OK Here is my Review for the contest:

Have you ever really stopped and watched a child playing a video game? Wondering if they realize that flailing around like some one with special needs, hoping that jerking their body to the right will help them jump farther. After the first few hours of Gran Turisomo I paused the game and realized that I was doing just that. Flailing around, hoping that if I lean my body either way it would some how make me turn sharper. To no avail, It wasn’t helping.

This is what you can expect out of Gran Turismo 5. It’s like being a kid-feeling all over again. GT5 gives a highly improved physics engine over its predecessors, and has a much improved feel over GT4. After getting into the game, starting it up, and racing, you can loose yourself in the beauty of the tracks, and the detail of the environment. But.. with any game, there is bound to be problems. GT5 Is no exception to this rule, but communication between Polyphony Digital and its community is strong. There have been 2 patches released back to back of each other. This is not to say GT5 is broken, but flawed in some areas, and great in others. This is what we will be reviewing today.

The Good, The Not so Bad, and the Ugly…

Lets get to the nitty gritty of the “ugly” first. “Was the game complete?” is what you will see on a lot of game sites and forums, but for the most part, “Yes” it is functional. Was there some things missing? Yes, you betcha ya. One of the biggest things that need work and is "ugly" and frustrating was the “B-Spec Mode”. In B-Spec, you create a driver with different starting attributes. There are little pop ups that give a description of these attributes but lacks the information needed to fully understand how to use these attributes to your advantage. There is a Manual that can be accessed in-game but it very limited in information. GT5 is a very huge game with lots of information that can be lost or not explored with out a manual. Starting out in B-Spec with out a real manual makes the section of the game a hair pulling, frustrating, Holy crap, im going to break something off on someone’s… Well, you get the point. Having a manual, and understanding the limitations of a new B-Spec driver could have prevented a lot of that frustration. So, B-Spec Gets placed into the “Ugly” Category.

But wait! There’s More!
If you play with-in the next 5 hours you might end up with the truck race! That’s right, There are trucks, but not many. There is a truck race with normal, average trucks. One of these trucks is the Dodge Ram. It may have been the 1 quintessential “Ugly” issue with this game. The graphics on the standard truck looked worse than playing Gran Turismo 3. Very Jaggy lines at the head lights. Little to no detail on the tires. It did handle like a Dodge Ram though. Tune It up a bit and your B-Spec driver will Never finish in the top 3 on the Laguna Seca run!

That leads us to..
the “Not so bad” section of things…

The Dodge Ram may have been horrendous, for a standard vehicle, but a lot of the other standard cars in the game did not display some of the same characteristics of the Dodge Ram. They still had their problems. Thus, The Not so bad.
The standard car in GT5 leaves a bit to be desired, but in retrospect, at speeds of 100 miles per hour, your not to concerned on the finer details of the guy your trying to pass or the AI behind you trying is level best to make it look like it was an accident, and he wasn’t really trying to knock you off the track. The AI is “Not so Bad”. I really could not tell much of a difference between the AI of GT4 compared to the AI of GT5. My Thought was… If the B-Spec Driver can stop his car from ramming the guy in front of him, coming into a corner, then why cant the AI in back of me do the same? I would think that it is based off the same Algorithms of calculation. All in all the AI does need improvement. If you haven’t fallen asleep yet, reading this review, You might dose off with the Background music, while not in a race. The Music is ok. You can change the BMG music for racing but the default music seems mostly from Japanese performers. The Music is not that bad but its nothing to write home about. The menu and over all non-racing BMG music is as calming and bland as Gran Turismo 5 Prolong. It could be considered to calming to the effect of being great music to make you fall asleep.
This can be at least changed to your own music for when you are racing. Which bring us to our “Good” parts

The Good…
Being able to play the music that resides on your PS3 is a great thing. There are some problems with volume issues of the play back but nothing that cant be solved with some tweaking of the options. The Sounds in the game for the premium cars are top notch, and are from the actual cars themselves. Couple this with some stunning premium car visuals is this actually makes for a great game. With the exception of the AI, and while driving a premium car, being in cockpit view is amazing. The level of detail is great, and is even better with a very large television. If you are really concerned about the graphics in this game don’t be. They may some problems with shadows from the cars and even the trees, but to tell you the truth. If you can spot the jaggy shadow lines while driving at 100 plus miles per hour, then you might want to make the move over to a pay service PC sim racer. In a nut shell…
With continued support from the developer for this game, the large community that is actively evolved. Ever improving multiplayer ability. Sunning graphics, and consistent patches to right the wrongs. This game is well worth the money. Couple it with a steering wheel and you could find your self competing for the GT Academy.

Get the game!
