Driving Line - On or Off?

It was the first thing I turned off. I find it distracting and I don't find it to suit my driving style sometimes. Everything else off (aides) to make it as close a simulation of life as possible.
To best learn a new course I'll use a slightly slower car than the AI in arcade an follow them, by the time I can pass them I know the track.

yes, that's why I always make sure it's off, it's so distracting!
You don't learn to drive,you learn how to follow directions,in sum you are the b-spec driver.
iknow what you describing, but even that little red light I don't pay attention to it. In all honesty, I never knew how it works
until you described it. When driving I focus all my attentions on the track and my trajectory, and I learn to shift based on the engine sound, I get the feel from the car, not from what the line could be showing, not from what the HUD is telling you. If you are able to look at the HUD info while driving, then you must not be driving fast enough for the gold.The recommended braking points are really useless to be honest. For example, in some corners that you can take flat out, it'll tell you to brake (remind you of anyone? 
). Basically if you want to drive like the AI or bobs, leave it on. For a more realistic, fun and challenging drive, turn it off.

I've been looking for that option in GT5... I assume that there is no option for that... There is too much information on the screen for my taste...

I had it on for a while in the beginning but then I turned it off. It's not even accurate for achieving the best time you can get. And to the guy saying you should use the blinking gear shift number to time when you should brake, no... just no.

I leave it off mostly. It's more of a basic guide for me when I'm learning a track as certain cars require you to take a different line depending on how they handle. Also, the gear change indicator isn't always right. I tend to stay a gear above what it suggests so I don't over rev and or lose control.
Well, I've turned it off, BUT it did cause a problem yesterday on one of the shortened Nurburgring tracks. The white lines on the road confused the crap out of me, and the cones that block off one of the dead end roads you can take need to be bigger. I ran off the track for no other reason that I couldn't tell which turn I was supposed to be taking. Lol.

TCS off (or 1 for really powerful RWD cars). I find having TCS off gets me out of more sticky situations than it gets me in to. I love the ability to be able to occasionaly change directions with the power of the car, which cant be done with traction control on.
ABS on 1 - way too difficult to modulate braking with a controller. And as someone above said, most come with ABS now anyway.

There's a driving line option in GT5? You mean I've learned all the tracks I've driven on by heart for nothing? 
Nah seriously, I've never used it and never will, what's the point anyway as most track have several lines to take and besides, once you're in a race you can't always stick to the ideal line as you constantly need to improvise and be alert for opportunities, it's driving a car fast around the track, not trying to keep a train on rails (there are other games for that).
It's more fun to find out yourself by trial and error and the best way to learn is just entering an event held on an unknown track and learn it on the go and once you're missing the apex or the entire turn when you're a couple of seconds in the lead on the last lap you'll never make that mistake again (okay, not much fun but a good way to learn I found).
