Driving Line - On or Off?

BTW, I'm not a total noob. The only assists I used before were TC 1 and ABS 2. I actually think that I'm faster with them off and just using more care when driving. :)

It was the first thing I turned off. I find it distracting and I don't find it to suit my driving style sometimes. Everything else off (aides) to make it as close a simulation of life as possible.
To best learn a new course I'll use a slightly slower car than the AI in arcade an follow them, by the time I can pass them I know the track.

ABS off is not true to life though, imo. At least not with a standard controller. I'd love to try it with a wheel and foot pedals though.

lol I don't think you need to worry about real life when you're using a controller :sly:

It would be on an old bucket of a car from years gone by.
I owned a Lada and that didn't have ABS! (Didn't actually go fast enough to warrant it though!)

Off!

Listen what he has got to say about it.

👍

Leave it off. Never switch it on.

You can only learn a track by driving the track, otherwise surely you are learning a line!
yes, that's why I always make sure it's off, it's so distracting!
You don't learn to drive, you learn how to follow directions,in sum you are the b-spec driver.

It really doesn't make much difference for me. Half the times it's on and half the times it's off! If you want to know when to break, it's best to look at the gear number and when you see it start to flash, start breaking.
iknow what you describing, but even that little red light I don't pay attention to it. In all honesty, I never knew how it works  until you described it. When driving I focus all my attentions on the track and my trajectory, and I learn to shift based on the engine sound, I get the feel from the car, not from what the line could be showing, not from what the HUD is telling you. If you are able to look at the HUD info while driving, then you must not be driving fast enough for the gold.

The recommended braking points are really useless to be honest. For example, in some corners that you can take flat out, it'll tell you to brake (remind you of anyone? :P). Basically if you want to drive like the AI or bobs, leave it on. For a more realistic, fun and challenging drive, turn it off.

I only use it in license tests, but never when just driving around the Ring and having a good time, which i mainly do in GT5. Wish i could turn the HUD off as well...

Left it on initially, to adjust to the new physics and tracks(I never played GT5P).But now, I'm more confident in my driving, and leave it off.

Nice! We had a Lada for many years. It was a "Kombi" (Wagon) and very fancy in its time hehe :). We also had to wait 12 years before we could pick it up after ordering. (east germany).
Doing 120km/h on the Autobahn we thought we were flying. haha :dopey:

Turned it off as soon as I could. The only exception was that special event at night in Toscana in the Lambo. Otherwise you can't see anything.

Mine is on most of the time when I'm not familiar with the track or if I'm looking to shave time, using it for reference (specially for the X1 challenges)

You can see the driving line on most tracks by looking at the black marks from the tires that are already designed into the track itself.

Yeah I know I described that pretty badly! Look at the gear indicator, and when you need to break the number of the gear you should go into would pop up, and when it starts flashing, is the best time to break. It's hard to describe so here's a picture!

It shows you are in gear 2, but next to it shows gear 1 in red. That's what I mean. It indicates that you should gear down to gear 1. At the last moment it would flash and that's when I usually break because it's the last possible second.
Now I understand what you mean.

:)

For me:
tc-off
ABS-off
ST-off
drive line-off
If you want to be a real and good racer you have to turn all the AIDS off!just my opinion
PS:the gear change indicator indicates always the wrong gear, when it indicates the first I shift into second gear, when it indicates the second I shift into third gear....

Most cars we race with in the game have abs in real life. Why would you turn off the abs, if you wabt to keep it as realistic as possible?

I use it the first time i drive a new track or something then ill just take it off..its to distracting and well fake..there's no line like that in real life lol

...In GT4,... You also had the option of limiting the HUD, getting rid of the brake-gear indicator (meaning that you actually had to know when to brake!)...

I've been looking for that option in GT5... I assume that there is no option for that... There is too much information on the screen for my taste...

A Lada can never be fancy.:)

I had it on for a while in the beginning but then I turned it off. It's not even accurate for achieving the best time you can get. And to the guy saying you should use the blinking gear shift number to time when you should brake, no... just no.

I'll be honest, I've always used it and since yesterday (what a coincidence) I'm playing without. I couldn't be happier now that I've learned trajectories and braking points.
PS:the gear change indicator indicates always the wrong gear, when it indicates the first I shift into second gear, when it indicates the second I shift into third gear....
I've noticed this a few weeks ago. Someone should address this problem.

I leave it off mostly. It's more of a basic guide for me when I'm learning a track as certain cars require you to take a different line depending on how they handle. Also, the gear change indicator isn't always right. I tend to stay a gear above what it suggests so I don't over rev and or lose control.

Well, I've turned it off, BUT it did cause a problem yesterday on one of the shortened Nurburgring tracks. The white lines on the road confused the crap out of me, and the cones that block off one of the dead end roads you can take need to be bigger. I ran off the track for no other reason that I couldn't tell which turn I was supposed to be taking. Lol.

Driving line off - way too distracting for me.

TCS off (or 1 for really powerful RWD cars). I find having TCS off gets me out of more sticky situations than it gets me in to. I love the ability to be able to occasionaly change directions with the power of the car, which cant be done with traction control on.

ABS on 1 - way too difficult to modulate braking with a controller. And as someone above said, most come with ABS now anyway.

There's a driving line option in GT5? You mean I've learned all the tracks I've driven on by heart for nothing? ;)
Nah seriously, I've never used it and never will, what's the point anyway as most track have several lines to take and besides, once you're in a race you can't always stick to the ideal line as you constantly need to improvise and be alert for opportunities, it's driving a car fast around the track, not trying to keep a train on rails (there are other games for that).
It's more fun to find out yourself by trial and error and the best way to learn is just entering an event held on an unknown track and learn it on the go and once you're missing the apex or the entire turn when you're a couple of seconds in the lead on the last lap you'll never make that mistake again (okay, not much fun but a good way to learn I found).

For me i like everiting OFF for more realism but in the case of the Lines i use it off but its annoying that the "Brake Warning Light" it can not be turned off :grumpy:

Haha Same!👍

Yeah the brake warning light and gear suggestion is really annoying as it's 1) innacurate and 2) unrealistic

I use it occasionally, this is my first full GT game..... and first proper racing game, so I use it on new tracks, then have it off as it is sorta indented in your brain.
