Just my 2 cents, maybe hte A4 isnt slower im just crap:D

But, the BMW isn't a DTM car, its faster, no matter what you do to it it will be faster, being a GT car it shouldn't be in DTM.

I managed to get a clean lap for the 15 lapper late last night. It took me bloody 3 hrs to get but the replay is saved and I doubt I'll be running it again. The final turn was the killer, damn that corner. :grumpy:

Edit: I'll post the splits soon.

Nice run there sphinx, very consistant. Well done and good luck man!!

Me and Drew decided to ditch the Alfa and, if it's okay, move to the Audi and to the TT-R to be more specific.

The Alfa is useless :ouch:

We, the drivers of team Audi would like to welcome the new additions to our team. The entire team is very excited to have acquired the services of two new, and talented teams from the defunct Alfa team. Certainly, this will help Team Audis chances in the constructers champoinship! @sukerkin,
I don't see a problem with drivers saying whatever they feel about their car, or anyone else's car for that matter.
It's not as if this discussion has turned into a flame war, it's about drivers having different opinions, and to be honest it interests me to know how others see things.

Quite true, my friend. I just thought that there was a little too much accentuation of the negative and hoped that drivers could step back a little and see that things weren't all that bad :).

You're especially right about it not turning into a flame war, which is a good reflection on the participants 👍.

Sphinx
For example, you still claim the BMW is better on the "twisty stuff", even though I showed this not to be the case when I tested and compared both cars at Tsubuka (Tsubuka = "twisty stuff"?)

I spent over an hour to get the BMW time of 1'48.151 in time trial and only 10 laps to get 1'48.263 in the CLK. I would think the data provided here is enough proof to rule that notion incorrect, and yet you continue to state otherwise.

Interesting. :)

Interesting indeed :D. It appears we have an inverse relationship with these two cars ... want to swap?. I can only say that, in my previously posted wordles, I was at pains to try and make clear that different drivers will be better in different cars and that's what makes absolute balance impossible in any multi-car race series. I did single out the BMW as an example because (points to above noted 'inverse relationship' :)) for me it is clearly superior by a large margin. Just like you, I jumped into the 'other' car after a session in my 'own' and, in my case, easily smashed my lap record in one go.

Sphinx
You have now hinted that the BMW may even be the better car on HSR, I admit the CLK understeers on these high speed corners but it does rather make up for it in straight line speed, which is most of the track is it not?

Again, interesting. :)

So you see, this isn't a flame war, it's a discussion that IMO is a worthy one, because I at least think it's interesting enough to be discussed. 👍

Oh yeah, and it also keeps this thread active ;)

I agree entirely with your sentiments, Sphinx.

On the technical side, from speed captures that I remember from last night, however, there was no noticeable difference in the speeds reached on the the straights (but bear in mind that 1/ I'd been visiting my bottle of Arran {:O} and 2/ I was running the cars at basic, series legislated, power and weight).

I'll have a chance for another look tonight, so I can report back on the 'morrow with less vague data.

Cheers :raises glass:

so the best car is the BMW
well now im gonna try to beat the BMW
to tell that your wrong;)

Hi Appie and Sphinx (in particular but hello to everyone else too :D).

I've put in another three runs in the CLK D2 and have improved my time somewhat (I'll PMit later). I tried another couple of races using different gearbox settings (TS Setting) but got no benefit.

Then, as promised, I jumped into the BMW and had another go (453HP 1008KG). I beat my CLK time by more than two seconds with the greatest of ease. Then I added the extra two percent weight (1030KG) and ran again. The extra weight did slow her down a bit, so that I only beat my CLK time by 1.6xx seconds .

I watched the replays to check on relative straight line speed and in the CLK I was hitting 179mph before braking into Turn 2 whilst in the BMW I was hitting 177mph (this is with stock boxes). So there is a small speed edge on the non-bendy bits. But the BWM grips so well and turns with such alacrity that you carry more speed both through the corner and out the other side.

I don't intend this as anything more than data for the balancing mill (whether in this series or another). It could be simply just that the BMW really suits me and the CLK doesn't - that is an open question by the way.

As I unexpectedly have the evening free (what's left of it) I might have a go with the other cars and see what happens. Stay tuned for details .

Interesting ;)
I haven't got access to the ps2 just yet so I'm taking this just from memory, but I believe you're correct regarding the top end speed for each car. However, have you not noticed that the CLK reaches that speed far quicker than the BMW. Again from memory, I believe that the BMW touches 173/174 at the first sweeping left, whereas the CLK exceeds that speed before that point. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong if you say no and I should therefore improve on my time :)

In short, the CLK top-end speed is reached far quicker than the BMW does, and thus reaches the first left braking turn earlier, but does tend to lose that gain in the remaining turns of the lap.

Just out of interest, would you be using a 300 or maybe a 310 TS?

BTW, I'm using the original 3% added weight assigned to me.

Hang on a sec, Sphinx, I'm just going to look through the relays again ... talk amongst yourselves ... ho hum ho hum ho hum ... in the BMW (standard race regs) I'm doing 173 around Turn 1 (on lap 2). With the weight reduction reduced by two percent I'm getting 172/173 around Turn 1 (on lap 2). In the race regs CLK I'm getting 175 around the latter part of Turn 1.

I've run the race in all the main contender cars now and the only car slower than the CLK is the Alfa ... and boy, no wonder you chaps were complaining ! The odd thing is that it's actually faster on the straights than any of the others but its cornering performance is dire (oversteer entry and understeer exit that bad should not exist on a race car) :scared:. The A4 is a touch faster and the TT a good stretch faster but nothing comes near the Bimmer.

sukerkin
but nothing comes near the Bimmer.

Time trial High Speed Ring

BMW +2% -9% R5 speed 320 1'02.496 (did this run last Tuesday,50 laps)
A4 -1% -7% R5 speed 300 1'02.566 5 laps
CLK + 2% 0% R5 speed 310 1'02.567 8 laps

replays saved,if needed I can post them.

Personaly for me the discussion about how well the BMW is compared towards other cars is closed.
But everybody, feel free to continue.👍

It would be really good if you could post some splits Sukerkin, so we can see where you are coming from?

It could be that my abilities won't allow me to see the big differences between the cars as you can. I'm aware that I'm not driving them to the maximum because I'm no alien, far from it. Perhaps getting an alien driver in here to test the cars might be a good way to put this discussion to bed?

Sadly, there's only a single split time on HSR, so that doesn't help very much :(. We ran a race on HSR the other week over at GTBN and found that the split time is data with no information content here.

I saved the replays from last night, so I could dig out the appropriate numbers if you really wanted them.

@Sjaak - blimey mate, you're nearly a second per lap faster than me  . My current BL in the CLK is 1'03.466 and that's a couple of tenths faster than my typical lap :cries:.

Nice illustration tho' of how the driver can make a radical difference in every cars performance. I find very definite dissimilarities between them but your skill manages to eliminate any variance in the cars behaviour so that lap times are not adversely affected :worships: :D.

Well I'm done for this week, love the Audi, but it's certainly not the winning car this week, no problem it's not the Alfa!! I've gotten all I can out of the Audi and am happy with the times. Consistantly is great , in the 6 lapper my lap difference was only .022 (not counting the first lap). In the 15 lapper, the laps were .756 seconds apart, had 1 bad lap or it would have been .465 Anyway, at least this week I was psyched and had a ball. Good luck guys, seeya after the trophy awards.

a lot of talk about the big 3 manufactures (BMW, Audi and Merc) and none about the Opel.... watch out for underdog fellas as i feel this is the best allround car in the competition!

I like your attitude man, good luck!! Although it isn't going to be the Audi's this week, not from the splits I saw posted.

As an aside, in my pre-series, base-line testing, I found the Astra to be the fastest of all the cars I tested. I put that down to the fact that it was the one I had most seat-time in but maybe there's a dark horse in the herd ... ROFL.

Time submitted a couple of hours ago.
