DVD Area tech question

I suck at thread titles.

So, the question is: can I watch a PAL DVD on any computer's DVD drive, regardless of whether I'm in the US, France, Spain, Japan or Australia?

If I'm not mistaken, you have a limited number of times you can change your Region code, but that applies to the actual disc, not your physical location. As long as you aren't trying to watch DVD's from multiple regions, you should be alright.

Depends on the DVD Drive. What make and model is it?

The region code change is per drive. You can change the region code, then change it back, but that's 2 of your 5 allowed changes just to see one movie.

Short answer to orig question: no.

I'm not sure you can't put two drives in, though. . . . .

That really sucks. I'm moving back to Venezuela (NTSC-Region 1, I think) and I've amassed a nice DVD collection here in Spain (PAL-Region 2)... well, not that big, but I got The Big Lebowski special edition

Use something like VLC and I think you'll be fine

or rip them to your PC (that should also be fine)

Why don't you buy a new (region 1) dvd drive when you get to Venezuela? You can probably get one for £15 quid, or the Venezuelan equivalent, and can usually fit both drives in your PC at the same time. As long as it's not a laptop.

Not likely... I'm more likely to make the SFGTP, though right now (and ater looking at my bank account) that seems about as likely as the UKGTP.

That is definitely a possibility. Actually, the only one, probably. Though £15 is about 767862646347802437º07403757 Venezuelan Bolivars.

Yeah, though I wanted to be assured I could watch them on the PC... region free dvd players are soemtimes a catch... they play region free dvds

Graphic design has dried up here a long time ago... well, no... that's not actually it. The market here is too small. There's about 6 agencies, so the moment a bit of recession hits, you get massive layoffs.

Truth is I'm not really a designer, I had to study a bit of it to be able to work here. I'm a copywriter (advertising copywriter) and despite Venezuela being a hell-hole, my job exists there. The further knowledge of graphic design is a big plus, so I've got a couple of highly probably possibilities there.

In the end, in a community as small as CI, you have to know someone to get a decent job, and I don't know many people; whereas in Venezuela I know a lot of people, so there's a better chance to make it.

Which doesn't mean that in 3 years or so I'll be living somewhere else. This'll be my 4th emigration.

edit: I wouldn't know too much about PC dvd players. I would just use the VCD format instead of actual DVD format to make sure I didn't have the right player, though most of those movies came from China Town.
