I didn't know that anyone could get into E3 now, a few years ago wasn't it only open to those who were working in the video game industry? I live like an hour and 30 from where E3 is being held.

Actually US in-country flights, and housing in LA can be done with discounts if you order soon.

So we need make this going ASAP :)

Wouldn't it only be fair if Jordan went? I mean, he did found this place and he of all people would know what we would want to see. 💡

That was my initial plan at least. Depends on the people who are willing to donate ofc, but its the obvious choice. Would be surprised if Jordan isn't ready to donate a few $ himself if he wants to go ;)

He is the one we could benefit the most from here imho. I would have gone myself if i didn't have to watch TV that day :P

Yeap im all for it and willing to give a few $ (minimal as im a non-working student :P) but still if enough people that appreciate these forums did this then he'd be able to stay at 5 star accommodation!
Weather or not he (talking about Jordan going) gives us anymore info then we would have seen anyway doesn't worry me to much as i agree with the other people on this thread that it would be a good "thanks for your efforts".

I know its not a lot of money that people would be giving but, whoever was recieving the money would need to go no matter what wouldn't they. I mean like no matter how much was raised, or can the money be refunded if he doesn't go?

Possibly a poll with $ ranges e.g a) $1-5, b) $5-10 would be handy before we really get into it so not only do we roughly know how many people are keen but also roughly how much money will be raised as i think a refund policy would just be a pain in the ass for the guys organizing it! lol

Definitely, and then the cumulative sum of the results should be halved and used as the "target"... :p

-> Since I go to L.A. once so often (Anime EXpo and L.A. Auto Show), and its just a short drive from Vegas (2.5-3 hours). I am willing to provide thourough coverage of GT5 at E3, since the only reason I want to go to E3 is to see what PD is up to.

-> There is only one hiccup though, I don't have the access to go to E3. I really want to have the PRESS pass to go in and report evreything GT5 in E3 ever since (even at the SEMA show too), but never got the chance just because of access to these shows.

-> Since a lot of people here in GTP lives more than 4 hours away from L.A., I am willing to provide services for GTP. Plus I already have a place to lodge in (friends), so that contributes significantly.

-> Budget you say? My typical 3-day affair in L.A. (per convention trip) is USD$250 max (w/o tickets/parking/access fees) that includes gas & food. Why USD$250? Because in the Anime Convention I tend to have a stupid shopping spree (but enough of that).

-> Just hit me up in PM, so I can file for a vacation time at work. :)

Well ifJordan decides he wants to go theres several solutions, if we fall short on donations.

1) He goes anyways, and pays the rest himself if possible
2) He doesnt go, and use the raised money for the site, and perhaps make some sort of competition with the ones donating.

About price ranging, last time i did a thing like this is way way back for another game. Back then you could choose the amount yoursel via paypal, i think you still can. Ofc that doesnt show how much approx we will get in advance.

Problem is, i cant make a vote in this thread, so need a mod to make it instead :)

yes I know a refund would be a pain in the ass, but even if there is a poll and it shows that it would raise enough money, lets say only $200 gets raised because people forgot to do it or something. Is he still going to go having to put $800+ out of his pocket if not where would that money go?

Lets first see if Jordan wants to go. As far as i can see it should be possible to get a decent amount of $. I posted this some hours ago, and already there's people willing to contribute. The next couple of days that number will grow.

Furthermore im sure Jordan (if he wants to go) can spit in some $ as well.

When we know if he (or some other senior staff) is saying yes to this trip, then we can work out the details. And then with all details on the table, we can make a poll etc.

First things first, pitstops second...

Another plan-> I could pick up Jordan up in LAX, and I can assist him of covering the event! My part of the donation is the gas expense/part of lodging. :)

Also, don't forget that if we want more hands on with a GT Demo, there is a PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) named 'PAX Prime' up in Seattle on Labor Day Weekend which I plan on attending. So I can give some insight there as well.

Got a HD cam by any chance?

Should this thing actually take off soon, I'd be in for a few tens of dollars.

Reading Famine's lobbying was quite festive.

Yea, I am willing to donate to this website anyway. So, if I donate and that means we get better coverage and a better interview, then that is awesome. Also, if I donate and we do not raise enough or the person cannot go, then that means I have donated towards something that I would like to donate towards anyway.

Win/Win:tup:

So, I say we fire up this puppy and get some donations started. Anyone got any ideas on how to do it? :gtpflag:

I live 30 minutes from the convention center where E3 is. You guys wouldn't have to pay for anything! If there is any way to get me a pass, I will go and do it for free.

I'd donate a fistful of dollars no problem. The problem isn't going to be raising the money, its calculating who is the best person per pound spent.

I'd be honest and say that i'd rather someone less senior than Famine or Jordan went, someone who would be willing to break thier reputation. The last thing we need is Jordan going, then being told things in confidence that he couldn't risk his reputation to share. It is nothing personal against Jordan or Famine, i just think we need someone who has nothing to lose.

Awaits grilling.

On further thought, if those who donate are allowed to access an uncensored feed of information, after agreeing to non-disclosure, as per the interview Famine shared with the mods, that would be cool.

I hope that specialized coverage from GTPlanet would be able to provide more in-depth impressions of any demo on the show floor, aside from the typical "it was great" reactions of general news outlets. In an interview I would ask, aside from the obvious questions, about the mysteries of GT (car licensing process, interaction between SCEI/PD, etc.) which I and many of the fans here have long debated and wondered about. I also find that many questions in Yamauchi's interviews are somewhat naive, and I would of course try to avoid that.

And I'm only kidding. Aside from being a logistical nightmare beyond nightmares, flying 14,000 miles to go to a 3-day games show is just silly - particularly when we have mods-next-door (by comparison).
The thing is Jordan, Famine is right, and I'm just not sure that sending somebody from the UK would be worthwhile use of time and money just to get a more detailed impression of a demo and to find out about the car licensing process that really, does not have anything to do with the quality and release of GT5 as such. That's nice background information, but all I really want to know is what will be in the game, and when it will release. That, I'm sure, we'll get anyway (assuming there is a GT5 blowout at E3 in the first place, of which we cannot be guaranteed!)

HOWEVER...

I will still happily donate a modest amount to send somebody there. I'd just need Jordan to set a target, coordinate it all, and if that target is not reached, the person going agrees to add their own money to make up the difference, or, people are refunded.

As outlined, it might be worthwhile setting up a poll to gauge how many people are willing (in theory) to donate, and how much.

£1 - 4
£5 - 9
£10 - 19
£20 - 49
£50+

Something like that.

I haven't read through the all thread so I'm not sure if this is already covered.

I readed before (where and there...) that PD staff (Kaz even maybe, who knows?) do in fact follow GTPlanet. Added to this, its pretty clear that some of the moderators have 'privileged' access to both SCEA and SCEE staffs, including some of the highest ranks.

Wouldn't be possible to get through this 'network' of contacts an interview with KY himself (it is stated before that shouldn't be that difficult) but outside the E3 event - maybe possibly an online interview (videocon)?

I mean I do have the feeling that, considering the sort of interview content that someone from GTPlanet would come up with being much different (read objective) than the ones that usually are made, an in-deep interview would likely be more fruitful if occuring apart and away from the E3 where the generally media pressure would certainly limit the availability and even (maybe) willingness for such an in-deep interview.

The thing is Jordan, Famine is right ...

No-one was ever seriously considering flying me to LA for this

Smallhorses and EDK both live in California and, though it's a little trek for them both, they'd be sensible choices to throw at LA.

Famine was never an option, he is going to Denmark that week to hold my hand while my team is loosing in the world cup in south Africa :dunce: No seriously, its the senior staff who find out who is the best to send.

It seems like the money raising shouldn't be a problem, while there's different views on who to send.

I'm off on a photo-session this weekend, but I will try to keep this thread updated, any mods who are willing to, are more than welcome to edit my first thread with polls, and people who want to pay etc.

I flew to Florida for a 3 day conference once...never again. I don't care who is there or what the event is!

I'll have to say that, if Famine wasn't so far away, I'd vote for him hands down. I enjoyed his work immensely covering the latest GT Academy preliminaries.

I have doubts this would help with anything.

Sure in the past interviews have been pretty bland with the same questions over and over but I remember more than one occasion when the interviewer actually did ask an interesting question regarding night racing and dynamic weather, Kazunori just ends up swaying it in his favour saying they are analyzing and seeing if it would actually work etc. I dont think sending a GTPlanet person would do more than the normal Gametrailers.com interview person, in all honesty it might even do less, sure we have a large fan base but Gamespot, IGN and gametrailers are respected much more in terms of big events etc.
